The best in fashion & chocolate 11/22/2007

My husband accompanied me on a shopping experience recently to Henri Bendel. Like the Gossip Girl that I am, I left him alone at Alison Nelson's Chocolate Bar on the third floor for a bit of R&R. When I returned he had ordered the what seemed like the entire menu and was indulging in everything from soup to caramel! What was a 2 hour tour turned into a full day affair and I must say, I was delighted! What better way to spend the day in New York but at a great cafe eating candy and watching the world of Henri Bendel go by? I'm still on a bit of a sugar high but can highly recommend the peanut butter sandwich on chocolate bread and the harvest salad. If you can believe it, that was course one. The staff was wonderful and I, must admit, I felt like a princess. Enchanted, for sure. more

Sweet, Salty, Gooey and Grand! 11/12/2007

Came to New York after watching the Food Network's show called 'Unwrapped' and went straight to chocolate bar to buy the full line of candy bars they call Retro Bars. Delicious!! Delectable!! Delightful! The place was packed so I went to their second location at a store called Henri Bendel on 5th Ave and had lunch. They had an incredible line of bars there called graffiti bars and bought those as well. Sweet and salty, gooey and grand. I recommend the warm soup, cold wine and hot sandwiches! I really wish they'd open a chocolate bar hotel! more

Not what we expected! 10/31/2007

Not sure if the address above is right but when my husband and I went, it was just a small cafe. Nice selection of chocolates and coffee but no other food as indicated by the reviewer below. Went there in hopes of trying everything (chooclate, coffee and regular food), espeially the panini but no such luck. The cappucinos were awesome. Their chocolate was good but not exceptional. There were (at most!) 4 bar stools for seating. If there's two ppl already sitting it gets uncomfortable, so we didn't stick around. We almost resorted to sitting at the crackhead park down the street but didn't/ Do these ppl have another location besides the one on Jane & Horatio?? Pros: Good Coffee/Cappucino Cons: Not romantic, No real seating, Regular Coffee shop (not rest), more

Chocolate Bar at Henri Bendel is the perfect spot! 7/18/2007

I read about Chocolate Bar at Henri Bendel in the NYT and my curiosity was peaked. Would the whole menu be desert? I love the store and always hoped they would open up a cafe but was skeptical as to whether I could have a meal there.....-well my prayers have been answered!!! I took my my mom and sister, who were visiting from out of town, and we had the most enjoyable lunch and the shopping wasn't bad either. The Bendel's Salad is my favorite- I love anything with crispy bacon! The paninis were very tasty too. For desert we had the spicy brownie topped with vanilla gelato, which I still dream about. Pros: Great for coffee, a snack or lunch Cons: Not big enough for a large group of 10 or more more

Awesome spot with awesome treats! 7/18/2007

i just moved here in May and discovered the Chocolate Bar one Saturday walking the West Village. It was super hot outside and inside Chocolate Bar was a welcoming cool. The air, the girls behid the bar the chocolate bars on the shelf...all cool! I had the best iced latte I've ever had and topped it off with a seriously chocolate spicy brownie. YUM! I recommend this place to any chocolate OR coffee fiend. We hung out for a few on the bar stools before heading back out into the heat. I'm going back for another iced latte and to try out some of those crazy graffiti chocolate bars. Pros: Great coffee. Cool service. Awesome brownie. Cons: Not a place for a large group to hang out. more

Chocolate Bar in New York 6/11/2007

I've been to Chocolate Bar in New York in the Meatpacking district and the new one on Fifth Avenue in the department store Henri Bendel. I've also been to the cafe they have at Dance Theatre Workshop. My boyfriend and I are chocolate fiends and the one thing that I love about this mini-chain of stores is that it's refreshingly modern. more

Chocolate Bar at Henri Bendel is perfect 6/9/2007

I like my chocolate and I love to shop and I found Chocolate Bar at Henri Bendel a welcome destination for all thing fun, funky and stylish. Champagne and the no-mayo tuna sandwhich was a perfect break from a day of purchases. After picking up a few dresses I was drawn in by two ladies who were enjoying a 'chocolate bowl' of popcorn and dipping sauces with chopsticks. I've been to the West Village store many times but found this new one to be its stylish big sister. I want to go back and try the warm spicy brownie with gelato and perhaps pick up the handbag filled with signature bars. Who knows, maybe you really can shop until you drop? Pros: a menu of goodness more

Chocolate Bar @ Henri Bendel's (so different from their sister store in the West Village) 6/4/2007

The Chocolate Bar in the West Village is a relaxed store where is it easy to feel at ease. Their new store in Henri Bendel's is not at all the same. The employees are rude and service is generally slow. They seem to mess up orders often, and it takes up to 30 minutes to get a salad. I would not recommend this location to anyone who enjoys good food, fast service, and friendly service. more

Best espresso in the west village. 9/14/2006

What a surprising place to find such delightful coffee. A chocoalate shop with adult clients in mind, this well designed little store is the ideal pit-stop for all of your coffee needs as well as gourmet chocolate. A great adition to a walking tour of the west village and a good place to become a regular if you live in the neighborhood. Pros: Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Fair prices. Great coffee. Cons: Not a good place to sit and sip a cap with a friend. more

Best chocolate drinks and truffles in New York City 7/26/2006

This is always my first stop in New York City. I need my chocolate fix. All of the servers know their chocolate and have made some excellent suggestions. I also have to have their chocolate at home so I use their website. I have never had a problem with delivery. Wish they could open a store in Houston (I'd live at their store) Pros: What can be better then chocolate It's one of the food groups Cons: Need more stores more

Best Chocolate in New York! 7/25/2006

Hands down- the best chocolate in New York was chomped by yours truly in New York's Chocolate Bar. Where can you go in this crazy world to buy a piece of chocolate not served in a heart-shaped box?! I'm not giving you the business when I say that I found myself doing the cha cha when I ate that round disc of marshmallow and caramel. Standing behind none other than Susan Sarandon who called it the ""Paul Frank of Chocolate"". Cute, but not quite right. This place is has soul. Its a rock n roll creation and the chocolate with the skull & cross bones simply kills. Walk don't run. It's worth the walk. Pros: Rockstar quality more

Chocolate Heaven 7/19/2006

This store was Great! The chocolate is soooo good but the staff is not snoty at all. They greated me when i walked in and answered any questions i had. Its small and seating is limited but i enjoyed sitting at the small bar watching people go buy. I had several bars and was not disappointed with anything i had. I recommend the ice chocolate. Its so rich! Pros: Great chocolate, coffee, NOT STARBUCKS! more

WEAK 7/13/2006

Best of New York! 2/11/2006

Hot hot chocolate. Chocolate-covered pretzel's. Coconut Cream Pie in a chocolate bar. Save CBGB Chocolates! The hits just keep coming.....Went to CHOCOATE BAR yesterday for the first time after reading the New York Times Style Section story and wanted to see it for myself. Wow! Big ideas from such a cozy spot. This is the kind of store that makes New York special. The owner Alison Nelson was such a wonderful host-- I didn't want to leave. The music was modern. The staff was young and hip, the packaging was perfect and the chocolate was delicious. Someone please remind me why we have 5 million Starbucks and only 1 Chocolate Bar??????? Pros: The Staff, The chocolate, the packaging more

nice place 2/3/2006

tried their liquid hot chocolate after hearing how different it was. was definitely very different, more chocolately and creamy. had the caramel liquid chocolate, was very sweet but i liked it. very different from starbucks hot chocolate. this place doesn't use powder. would definitely recommend to frens. place has limited seating so first come first serve. didn't get a chance to try their gourmet chocolate but will be back to try. Pros: best hot chocolate Cons: limited seating more

Celebrity Sighting! Even they eat Chocolate... 8/29/2005

Almost fainted at Chocolate Bar when in the span of two minutes walked Leonardo DiCaprio, Mike Myers and Julianne Moore. Wow! Talk about pre-Oscar gitters... Oh, the chocolate is out of this world! Count me in as a regular. Pros: Celebrity sightings more

This Joint is Jumpin'! 2/1/2005

God I love New York. Where else are you going to find a self-proclaimed ""Candy store for Grown-ups""? The cities richest, creamiest chocolates mixed with the best hot coco I have ever tasted. Had to write a review as I was in yesterday and sat next to David Lee Roth! How hot is that! Even Van Halen likes to partake! Can't wait to go back and try the ""Elvis"" a bananana marshmallow thingamajiggy with graham crackers and dark chocolate. Man, I've died and gone to chocolate bar.... Pros: Celebrity sightings!, Cheap for what I got, tasty! Tasty! Tasty! more
