A roll of the dice. 8/28/2006

I have eaten at Kokomo's a few times, and I have had both very good and somewhat bad experiences, depending on the server and time of day. The best service was surprisingly during a mealtime when they were busy - the worst was later in the evening when a bartender was our waitress and the food we ordered was full of unwelcome substitutions (probably ran out of certain items). I recommend ordering the big "Luau" platter (roughly $40) that feeds about 3-4 adults. This gives you a taste of their most delcious items and is served in a fun way with coconut shrimp skewered on a pineapple top in the center of the platter. This item is not listed on the mall entrance menu board, but you will find it on the menu once inside. We have ordered this item twice - the first time it was wonderful, but the second time had substitutions (plain cooked broccoli instead of their delicious spicy green beans) and less food overall, plus not proper serving utensils nor large enough plates. I would still return and give it another try - the first time was delicious. We have also brought our 1-year-old child along, and Kokomo's is great for kids. Just hope for one of the more attentive servers. Pros: fun, tasty food Cons: servers both very good and very bad more

Avoid this place - period. 8/2/2006

I decided to use a 1/2 off coupon at this restaurant, and if it wasn't for that, I would have given it a score of Zero. The service was bad - our waitress stopped by twice - once to take our order, and once to bring the bill. She never even stopped to see if our food was ok, which it was not. The food was worse. I had chicken, my friend had a stirfry. My chicken was so dry that it was almost unedible, and the mashed potatoes that came with it were cold. My friend's stirfry was greasy and flavorless. No one even bothered to stop by and see if it was ok. I can't think of a reason to recommend this place - we would have had a better meal at Burger King! Pros: No wait to get in Cons: The food, the service, the ambiance more

Something to experience 3/21/2006

I went with a group of eight and we all thought the food was average or very good. The fish taco had fish type nuggets in it, which was an unpleasent surprise for the order-er. I had the buffalo chicken, which was good, but could've been spicier. The pizzas were very good. Our waitron was very attentative. The atmosphere was fun to expereince at least once. Pros: service, decor Cons: dark at dinner more

Dinner Night at the Mall 1/22/2006

I recently spent the day at the Mall of America with my wife and our 5 year-old son. Bored and tired of the "food court" atmosphere, we decided on Kokomo's Island Grill. This IS a place suitable for kids. The atmosphere is that of a cheap imitation of an "Orlando" style restaurant. If you are looking for an intimate dinner, then walk right past Kokomo's. The waiter was average, although did nothing to warrent a negative review. The food was a tad high in price, although our buy-one-get-one free coupon helped. I had Thai Peanut Fettuccini and would highly recomment it. Vibrant and fresh tasting red peppers and snap peas with a sweet creamy Thai peanut sauce. The wife had Salmon and claims it was worth the meal. Our son had the hamburger kids basket and finished the whold burger, but could not finish the generous amount of fries. Pros: food selection, fresh vegies, unique taste Cons: artifical atmosphere, price, mixed drinks more

A little Cheezy 3/7/2004

If you are looking for a night out with the kids, I would recommend this place... if you are taking out a 2nd mortgage. The drinks will cost you your arm and youll loose a leg on the food. It has a fun theme, but the Tiki Gods that greet you at the door and at the bar are a little cheesy for grown-up tastes in my opinion. If you've been to Hawaii then this place will remind you of a restaurant youd see in the airport in Honolulu, very cookie cutter tropics mixed with a party-time cartoon theme. The menu says it's a blend of Key West and the Tropics, Id say more Hawaii mixed with Caribbean and a dash of the corporate world. The food is good, I was impressed with the portions as well as the taste, but if you dont like Teriyaki, your options are limited. Pros: Located at the Mall, Food, Different atmosphere Cons: , Price, Cheesy atmosphere more
