Unprofessional/Pretentious Staff 2/2/2006

It is truly a shame when the management staff is poorly trained. Their arrogance and rudeness is drilled down to the staff, thus the quality of service is jeopardized. The restaurant itself is aesthetically pleasing and the food is moderately good. The restaurant is ideal for business lunches/dinners but my clients on a number of occasions walked out unhappy due to the substandard service. Tip: You might fare better at the sushi bar 9/11/2005

I've heard mixed reviews about Kitayama from friends, but was pleasantly surprised by the sushi served at the bar. BTW, one of the patrons seated next to me says that she never liked the restaurant until she also tried the sushi bar. more

Not much a value... 4/7/2004

I used to be a food wholesaler to Japanese restaurants in the Bay Area so I had ate at so many Japanese restaurants as part of the job. Surprisingly, Kitayama cooking has not much to offer in taste, look, ingredients, and style. The building and interior are excellent but surprisingly, again, the choice of detailing material is so poor and rather cheapy. Unfortunate for such a nice looking place.
