Not only fun shopping... 3/25/2006

but a wonderful garden. The greenhouses always have some of the best plants for sale. They are always healthy and well taken care of. The gift shop has a wide variety of unique items and is placed in the manor house of the original owner. You can also wander through the house and see some of the original furniture and belongings. It is an amazing place to visit. more

love this place 10/19/2005

The Kingwood Center gift shop has all sorts or garden related items. There's jewelry, statuaries, toys, shirts, and various knick-knacks. This is located in the main house where you can also look around. The plant store is in the back of the greenhouse which inspires you as you walk through it as to what you can do in your own garden. more

A Piece of Mansfield History 7/26/2005

Built in 1926, Kingwood center is 47 acres of house and gardens open to the public. It is a bequest of Mr. Charles King, who left it to the city of Mansfield. Besides the house, which is of interest for its architectural and historical viewpoint, the gardens and the greenhouse is what draws the public year round. The gardens are beautifully laid out, rose gardens, annuals, perennials, tree lined walks and fountains. There is a lovely common building where local events are held, such as flower shows and concerts. And the greenhouse, besides having some unique and unusual plants, hold several plant sales each year that benefit the foundation. Weddings are common on the grounds, and there is a large bird pond which attracts children wanting to feed the ducks or swans. There are also peacocks and guinea hens running around loose. And, of course, there is the wonderful smelling herb gardens on the terrace outside the main house. There are two main parking lots, offering lots of parking and a gift shop is at the main house. Do make it a point of stopping in to this locally historical house and well maintained and peaceful gardens. A lovely place to spend a Sunday afternoon. Best of all ... it's FREE!! more
