Best

it's a great local spot for those of us that grew up in the chicagoland area and have no desire to spend all their money getting in the door. there's a good DJ and plenty of space...

Worst

We've gone to this bar a couple of times, always with poor results. The crowd tends to be oblivious college kids and a few older men who are trying to pick them up. On a number ...

Best bar, and also the only one around 8/10/2005

The Keg of Evanston is perhaps the best part of going to Northwestern. Great drinks, great service, great atmosphere. The Keg is my college experience, and I am proud of it. Or take the El to Loyola and go to Hamiltons. That is another great bar around the area. The ladies there are hot too! more

A dance floor and cheap drinks, what more can you ask for 8/9/2005

The Keg of Evanston offers cheap drinks, $3 32 ounce beers on Mondays and Thursdays, and while those 32 ounces could be any combination of Miller, Bud, and Coors light, for the price it can't be beat. Add in the large dance floor, and young impressionable girls, and you have the most popular bar in Evanston. So dance the night away, just make sure to leave some advil on your nightstand. more

Editorial
  • The Scene
In bar years, the Keg has been around for an eternity--since 1972. Its no-frills atmosphere (brown is the dominant color), moderate prices and proximity to the Northwestern campus have made it a reliable hangout over the decades for students and locals alike. Part tavern, part restaurant, the Keg has two bars, a dining room and a sizable game room that includes pool and darts. After work, the crowd is a blue- and white-collar mix; the dinner hour draws folks of all ages to the restaurant. College students take over later in the evening.

    The Draw
Besides an all-you-can-eat salad bar, the dining room offers steak, chicken and seafood entrees; and for kids, the peanut butter and jelly sandwich served with french fries. Bar snacks include fried calamari, baked escargot, wings and rib fingers. Beer (including Sam Adams, Leinenkugel and Murphy's Stout) comes in bottles, pints and pitchers.
