Basically, this place is fine for those who have low standards or for those who are just plain desperate. The counter help/baristas are self-impressed to the point of distraction...

Kayak's Coffee 11/13/2006

St. Louis has a great little restaurant with good food at reasonable prices. Kayak’s Coffee is not just a coffee bar. It is conveniently located right across the street from the Galleria Mall; in the new shopping area know as The Boulevard. Kayak’s is a great place to go for a quick bite. They have a large variety of coffee drinks, wine and beer, pastries, soups, salads and sandwiches. I recently had the soup and ½ sandwich combo. The soup was homemade Tomato-Basil Bisque and my sandwich was a panini with Portobello mushrooms, fresh basil, dill-havarti cheese and a sauce. Both were delicious and only $6.95. http://www.kayakscoffee.com/ more

Feed your meter!! 8/3/2006

If you park in back, feed your meter, even if you are there late at night on a weekend! Other than that, Kayak's has great coffee ("kick in the face") and a fun "outdoor" atmosphere. It is like a ski lodge. They do have loose teas (bonus!) and of course, tabletop smores! What could be better? Oh, some of the locations serve alcohol too. It can get a bit cosy during the school months since WashU is on the opposite corner, but it is still pretty big. They also have sandwiches and salads, but not a lot of baked goods. more

Fun place if you're an undergrad... 3/17/2006

I liked Kayaks. It's nice to hang out, but when I went there it was very crowded. It's got a better feel to it than Starbucks, or the like because it's just somehow warmer.I didn't actually eat, but hung out with a bunch of people who did and the soup looked amazing! It's a fun place to get a cup of coffee, although I felt a little bit old being surrounded by all of the WashU undergrads. Note: they really enforce the meters around there (I was warned a lot by people who had been there many times), so feed your meter! more

Great Coffee, Great Atmosphere, Great Food 3/17/2006

Kayaks is a great coffee shop to stop by and grab a drink or meet up with friends. The coffee is really good, as well as the food. And the atmosphere is so warm and inviting. Definitely a place you can find yourself sitting in for hours. Plus, they have smores on the menu! more
