Best Korean food in NYC!! 5/25/2011

You want best Korea food in NYC? Go to Kang Suh. They have more selection then any other restaurant I have ever seen. It wasn't the plethora of food on the menu that drove me to this restaurant . It was the great tasting Korean food! It's like visiting Korea all over again. My favorites are too long to list but I will mention few that I would recommend. Marinated short ribs, spicy pan broiled octopus, bowl of rice with assorted veggie, spicy pork with tofu, and etc. Yes I try them all and more. Hmmm I noticed editors review shows entrance on the restaurant being on 31st??? It's on 32nd. I don't think you could enter from 31st at all. Hmmm ... I have always entered from 32nd with no problem.=) more

best bob.... 3/23/2009

came to NYC looking for authentic, ethnic foods.... went to Kang Suh with my Korean girlfirend, she confirmed food was traditional and well done. I have eaten Korean food many times and found it to be one of the best Korean meals i have had. we sat downstairs, which has zero atmosphere, but for the price, it was perfect. Pros: tasty, authentic, reasonable Cons: no atmosphere more

Not my favorite 2/26/2009

I took a new employee out to lunch here and I have to say, it wasn't the best. Though it is "nicer" than some of the other options in K-town, I found the servers to be rude and inattentive - until the check came - then they were practically throwing us out the door. It was lunchtime, and not busy, so I don't understand their behavoir. It was a strange experience to say the least. At least it was inexpensive - very good value for the portions. more

Sushi was okay 1/25/2009

I went in for a pre-evening sushi meal at the lower level.. The chef and waitress were pleasant. There isnt an extensive sushi menu, but what I had was filling and tasty, it was an average spicy tuna and hamachi roll. I will go back to try the korean bbq upstairs. Service is important to me, so hopefully I will have a more pleasant experience than most reviewers. more

Horrible Customer Service (but great authentic food) 9/20/2008

As a Korean American, I can honestly say that Kang Suh has some of the best traditional Korean dishes I have tasted. I can't wait until summer for their Mul naengmyon, and their Kalbee is great any time, among some of the other traditional stews. But I just can't put up with the service any longer! On a recent Friday night, we occupied the table for a mere 30 minutes before the waitress started to hover over our table to scoot us out. She tried to clear our dishes twice even though we told her we were still eating, and yet she still reached across my face to the other side of the table to retrieve one empty beer bottle. Simple requests for anything, whether its more rice, another utensil, or some cold water were met with complete annoyance on the part of the wait staff, as usual. Between 2 adults and a 3 year old, we spent over $110 yet we couldn't enjoy our meal in peace. Keep in mind, we've eaten at Kang Suh hundreds of times over the past 15 years that they should recognize us! This last experience just made me realize that going out to eat at a restaurant isn't only about the taste and quality of the food. The feeling that you are welcome and your business is appreciated is just as important. Needless to say, I'm looking for a new Korean restaurant... Pros: Great food Cons: Horrible Service!! more

Best Korean Barbeque in NYC 4/23/2008

You don't go to Kang Suh for the ambiance or for the service. Putting those things aside, this place has the best Korean bbq in the city. It gets very crowded in the evenings and they try to rush you out to turn over the table, but the food is great. The food is also relatively expensive. For those who have cars and are perhaps driving into the city from NJ or CT, the garage adjacent to the building will give you 2 hours of free parking. Pros: Food, moderately priced Cons: Service is sometimes rushed, a lot of the staff doesn't speak English more

Awful food matched by awful service 12/20/2007

If you like bad food and service then this is the place. For the sake of the food it is spicy b/c it distracts from the fact that the food just ain't that good. And the service is just plain incompetent. more

Family night out 10/31/2007

After reading the review, I took my family out for a dinner at Kang Suh and loved it. We started off with Kalbi (Korean ribs) and Bul Go Gi (marinated beef). The server cooked the food in front of us on the tabletop grill. Our server recommeded that we try the Korean cold buckwheat noodles which went very well with our meal. I've tried the Japanese soba and Vietnamese Pho' but none of these compare to Kang Suh's cold buckwheat noodles. If you are new to Korean food, I highly recommend the selections above and you can't go wrong. If you have kids, order them some mandoo (Koream dumpling) and ice cream. They'll love it. Pros: Delicious foods Cons: Crowded during lunch and dinner more

One of the better Korean restaurants that I've been to 10/28/2007

I must say, this is one of the better Korean restaurants that I've been to. You got to try their Korean short ribs (Kalbi). The quality of the meat is excellent. My kids love the various Korean side dishes that comes with the meal. The food is great, price is decent, and service is good. Highly recommeded for Korean eatery experience. more

my favorite korean BBQ place in the city 7/19/2007

service is fast, the place is clean, and the kal bi and gopbol bi bim bap is amazing. i think wonjo might be a little more flavorful with the burning wood chips (kang suh uses gas grills), but wonjo is dreadfully slow at times. it's 24 hours, and it sure beats a diner when you're up late and crave something different. Pros: 24 hours, fantastic kalbi, service is much better than typical korean BBQ places Cons: not cheap more

Quite Impressive 9/30/2006

Its expensive but its very good. When its open for 24 hours in the lively K-Town area, this makes for a very pricey but good alternative to fast food, pizza, and typical diners. The service has always been very decent and the place is very well maintained. Pros: Food, Service, Decor more

Highly Recommended for good reason! 6/18/2006

Korean home cooking 24/7 at it's best. If you've been out partying and have a yen for quality Korean food at 3:00am, there's a table waiting for you at Kang Suh Restaurant. The food is just as good at 2:00pm in the afternoon. It's not cheap, but it is very good and not exceptionally expensive. The staff is friendly and food or hot coals are delievered to your table quickly. I brought my mother here once for Mother's Day. I've come a few times on dates and with friends. Their Dak Bul Gui is spicy and tasty, so to is their Sizzling Rice and Seafood. Come hungry but be careful not to order too large an appetizer because it would be a shame to waste their scallion pancakes because you've gotten too full prematurely. Sip your soju slowly and enjoy a quality meal. Table barbeque is only available when 2 or more in your party order it. Pros: food, variety of selection, spacious layout Cons: The staff can be a little dismissive more

Best Korean food rated by koreans 5/10/2006

They have the best and most authentic korean food PERIOD. The decor is normal but last time I checked, if you really appreciate food, you come for the food, not the decor, ambiance, foo and la la. Real koreans don't care about the 'environ' as long as the food is exceptional. Other Korean places try to make up for it with decor, catering to the americans, fusioning it up, etc, but if you want Korea, come here. Become a regular, become a part of the family. Pros: Food, Food, Food more

Best so far in Koreatown 2/8/2006

I've tried many of them several times each - Kum Gang San, Han Bat, Woo Chon, Woo Lae Oak, etc. etc. and tried Kang Suh for the first time last night. Kang Suh is by far the best BBQ and the pan chan are varied and fresh. It may be slightly more expensive than other K-town restaurants, but for the quality, this is my new favorite Korean place! The service is also very friendly, helpful and attentive. Joomeluk and bulgogi were excellent and the standard jap chae and mandoo were well above average! Pros: Service, BBQ more

A++ Korean Food 1/2/2006

I came here with my boyfriend for new years eve dinner and was very skeptic of this place at first because it didn't seem to be very friendly. But the service was great and very friendly. The Korean food especially the BBQ was well worth it but I suggest sticking to the beef and pork. The chicken seems kind of bland to my taste buds. The staff was very helpful in the BBQ-ing process if this is your first time. Parking is also available in the parking lot right next door to the restaurant so don't be afraid to drive there. If you have a few extra dollars to spend why not spend it here? Pros: Staff, Food, Parking Cons: Price more

Highly Recommended 11/27/2005

We went to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and needed a place to eat. We checked on Citysearch and found this restaurant. There were 13 of us, including 4 children under the age of 4. They put us in a private room. The service was fast, they were friendly and the food was delicious. If you come to NY and want Korean food, this is the place! Pros: fast service, friendly, clean restroom more

One of the best restaurants in K town 9/27/2005

The food at Kang Suh is good, go! I never complain of the food there unless to say I wish I could eat more. My group of 3 ordered a seafood soup, a beef dish, a shrimp dish, and wine. They were all very tasty and good sized portions. Although the price may be a couple of dollars more than the other restaurants in K town, I think this is one of the better ones and worth the little extra money. Also the BBQ bulgogi and kalbi are very good! Pros: great food, good portions, not too crowded more

Really Good Korean Food 8/9/2005

I have eaten at many Korean resturants in NY. This one has the best food. Generous portions, fair prices. The fried hot peppers are amazing (forgot the Korean name for this dish). So far, everything I've ordered has been excellent. Pros: food, service, prices Cons: none so far more
