Formaspace engaged KDS to design a showplace factory in Austin. The Formaspace project was among the three largest industrial leases signed in Austin in 2009.\r \r The project scope included a highly creative and original Class A office interior as well as a large amount of factory electrical and mechanical work. Because we design custom technical interiors ourselves (we design and manufacture technical workbench and laboratory furniture), we worked with the creative professionals at KDS to incorporate our furniture and fixtures designs into the project. Clark and his team were outstanding in every aspect, including creating some extremely creative ways to incorporate our furniture and branding into the build out.\r \r Due to Sara and Clark's accuracy and attention to detail, the first set of plans exactly reflected our specifications, bidding was very tight (within pennies per square foot), and among dozens on general contractors, not one subcontractor could point out a single flaw or opportunity for improvement within the plans. I've never seen anything like it.\r \r So how did our project turn out? We are well within budget, and because Clark held my team accountable, we are also a few days ahead of schedule. i came to clark (owner of kds) from a referral and i am a small business owner in Austin, Texas. on out first meeting, kds was insist me that kds will complete interior design for my project within 3.5 - 4 weeks schedule. I provided kds all of my ideas and propose layout + the CAD file. I pretty much know what i want and all i need kds to transform my requirements into reality. 6 weeks has gone by and kds did not even half way, but at this time i did not secure the lease location. So, i asked kds to work me on my next location. But, clark / kds insisted to pay up the $7,600 out of $9,100 before he can transfer the work to the next location. At this point kds claimed 90% completion, we're just about to complete the selection of all the light fixtures. i even gave kds another opportunity to work with my new location so kds can transfer their works over. clark / kds gave me another ridiculous quote that seem like staring from the beginning. I interviewed 3 local firms and their price about less than half of kds original quoted me. They all agreed that clark / kds project only about 65% into the project. I discussed this situation to my attorney and he had pointed out to me that clark / kds SHOULD NOT charged me that much of fee since clark / kds claimed 90% complete. The bottom line... i can't even use clark / kds's work on the original location because my business NEVER start. clark / kds did not even come close to the permit for the pre-construction. I am very much feel angry, ripped off by clark / kds. One of the reason i wanted to use clark / kds because i wanted to use the local firm so at least i contributed to stimulate our local economy in Austin. I have learned a value lesson and i am hoping to share with anyone that looking or thinking of using clark / kds service. I am not impress nor recommending. Someday, i hoped that things will catchup with clark / kds on their integrity and honesty. BTW, clark / kds charged me $350 for the plot papers that i NEVER receive.
