Don't trust this company. I worked with a realtor - Julian. He walked me through apartments and really pressured me to put a security deposit (refundable) on an apartment. I did, but told him I wasn't fully committed. However, he called me the next day and said that the apartment I put a security deposit on was already signed - which was a lie. He just found someone who could commit even though I already had a deposit on the room. Terribly stressful and took forever to get my money back. more

Nice people, very responsive to my needs. Worked with me (and I'm tough) for several months until they helped me find the right apt for the right price. Really for a small boutique type brokerage the personal service was exceptional. I would recommend them to anyone that is serious in looking for space in Manhattan and doesn't want to get lost in the shuffle with a large anonymous agency. more

I lived in Kains Columbus Avenue buidling for 5 1/2 years. I moved out not too long ago not because of lack of service but because of what Manhattan Valley has become. All of a sudden there are all these prissy little yuppies moving in from the hills who dont havew a clue as to what city life is about, let alone living in their own apartment. In all of the years I lived in kains buiding, I always had my concerns taken care of.. NO, yuppies, they will not run to come kill your roach or mouse, and NO, they will not give you a paint job just because you messed it up while using your pilates machine, but they were more than fair with me and the only reason why I moved was because I was havign a baby.. My suggestion to all you hicks is if you want to get Central Park West service, spend the $5000 plus its gonna cost and live in a doorman building, but if you wanna be a cheap wad and live in the hood, you know the ole saying, you get what ya pay for.. So either deal with it, or run home to mommy and daddy more

Wow! People are getting so fired up about Kain Realty on Judy's Book. I have never posted online website, but I feel like I should add my two cents to this contentious debate. I really feel that Kain Realty is fine. I have lived in an apartment that they own/manage for four years. I think the apartment is nice and I pay a fair/undermarket price. If something is broken, I have to really aggressively follow up with the super to get it fixed, which can be annoying. But again, I think I pay a fair price and am willing to deal with a little hassle--this is New York. The owner of Kain Realty seems like a nice guy to me--if I take the time to stop in his office and tell him directly about my apartment problems, he fixes them. The intercom in my building has been broken forever and I have accepted that fact. I hope I don't get attacked on this website! more

I WOULD HAVE TO AGREE WITH THE FIRST REVIEW. YOU SHOULD NEVER RENT WITH KAIN REALTY. SINCE DAY ONE I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH HEAT AND HOT WATER. THE HEAT AND HOT HAS BEEN OUT AT LEAST 50 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 1/2 YEARS. THE FRONT LOBBY DOOR HAS BEEN BROKE FOR 6 MONTHS AND THE INTERCOM FOR OVER 2 YEARS. THE PEOPLE IN THE OFFICE ARE RUDE AND GET MAD BECAUSE THEY SAY THAT YOU ARE BOTHERING THEM. THE LANDLORD LIES ABOUT REPAIRS BEING DONE AND OFTEN TALKS DOWN ABOUT THE TENANTS IN THE BUILDING. THE SUPER DOES NOT CLEAN THE BUILDING AND THE GARBAGE IS KEPT IN A DISGUSTING MANNER. SAVE YOUR MONEY ON THIS DUMP. I WILL BE MOVING IN THE NEXT MONTH. more

The worst renting experience of my life. The management here is rude, slow, and seems to think its the tenant's fault if the building is deteriorating. The building owner continually gets pollution fines from the City of NY since the sidewalk outside the buildings are never cleaned - that's an indication of how the interior of the building is kept. Save yourself the hassle and rent elsewhere, because I'm sure when I move out this terrible people will keep my security deposit although I think I'm leaving my apartment in a BETTER condition than when I moved in. more

I rented an apartment from this firm. The owner is a nice, straight-talking Jewish man who lives around the corner from his realty office. I like an agent who lives in the neighborhood. He is a former social worker - I don't know why, but I feel better handing over my huge Manhattan rent to a nice person who once made zero $ as a social worker. His apartments are a good value for the rent, and he was willing to write a discount into the lease for regular on-time rent payments. His super is good and responsive. more
