Decent food, but AWFUL service 4/4/2009

Kabuki is generally a great place to go, that is consistently of decent quality throughout the various locations. Cerritos however, is the exception to the rule. If looking to go to a Kabuki resturant Huntington Beach or Howard Hughes are much better alternatives... I would even opt for RA (which I don't like as much) over the Cerritos location of Kabuki. My complete review of my experience: For the most part if you go to Kabuki, you can expect a pretty good, somewhat americanized, Japanese food experience. The Cerritos location however, has the worst service I've experienced ever. The first time I went was evening and the waitress simply didn't do a good job checking in on us... I'm an easy patron, so it's normally not a big deal to me, just something that I do notice. The second time however, which was horrible enough for me to take the time to actually write a review, is a completely different story. Again, the food wasn't bad, but starting with my drink (which was simply a shot) we were already making errors. When I asked for the correct shot, instead of taking responsibility for the mistake, the waitress actually tries to argue with me; which of course is one of the major sins of good customer service. Then I ask for a ""half of a lemon"" and instead get one wedge; again, I'm easy so it's not that big of a deal, but I asked for ""half a lemon,"" now I have to wait for you to go get more wedges, when you could have just listened and got me what I asked for. The major incident that drove me to write this review was the fact that they over charged my credit card. Outside of serving someone something they're allergic to, this is the single-most epic ""mistake"" you can make; assuming of course it is a ""mistake."" When I called to have the charge corrected, I already did not believe it was a mistake, but I figured the manager has no reason to not help me, so no biggie... boy was I wrong. The manager, much like the waitress, tried to tell me I must have made a mistake and that I in-fact did write-in a $15 tip on a $25 order... c'mon lady! She actually started yelling at me and telling me how she didn't ""appreciate"" me accusing her waitress of over-charging me... WHAT?!?!? This place has decent food, but horrible service; in addition to apparently a dishonest staff. Pros: Reasonably priced, decent quality, consistent Cons: terrible service, slow, cold, unfriendly more

Below Average in all criterions 10/25/2007

I""ve heard a lot of good things about this restaurant but when I went, I was so unimpressed. It smelled funky from their cleaning of the tables ~ mix btw Clorax and mildew. The service wasn't great either. We waited 15 minutes after we sat down before anyone came by to ask if we wanted anything to drink, then another 15-20 minutes before we could order food. The servers all seemed to disappear or be totally blind to a person waving them down. Anyway, not only was the presentation poor with each plate we ordered looking sloppily put together, but the food was not fresh at all. I've had better in a mall. Pros: having other restuarants nearby to go to instead Cons: service, food, cleanliness, presentation more

Below Average Sushi 7/19/2007

Not good sushi. Big chain. They do have 1/2 price sushi. It's not worth it. Stick to the cooked items. Over all it is like the Dennys of sushi. Pros: cheap Cons: food quality more

the service is great and they have great food. 3/5/2007

this restaurant has very NICE hostesses and servers\r a pleasure to eat here as always! great food. great service! more

Ok sushi, fair hot food, bad services. 1/7/2007

The sushi are ok, somewhat below average, nothing special. Unless you order enough to get the half price sushi discount, I don't think it's worth it at all.\r \r The hot food are average, considering the prices, they are ok. \r \r The service is mostly bad. I usually had to flag down a server various times to get the attention. I been to this place about 5 times, and I had never have a GREAT service experience at this restaurant. Pros: OK sushi when order enough to get the half price discount. Cons: Bad service, long wait at times. more

mediocre at best 11/9/2006

the sushi here is definitely below average. i cannot stand for mediocre sushi, and those who dine and actually enjoy it here probably have never had good quailty sushi in their lives. i will not be eating here again. Cons: quality more

Just nice interior, not fresh food. 10/3/2006

The interior was nice, but the food was not good as the interior. I wish they spend more time and money for the food than the interior. more

SERVICE IS HORRIBLE 9/3/2006

I'VE EATEN AT KABUKI TWICE NOW AND BOTH TIMES HAVE BEEN DISPLEASING. JUST LAST NIGHT I PLACED A PICKUP ORDER. I ORDERED THE FIRECRACKER W/ EXTRA CHIPS. ONCE AGAIN NO CHIPS W/ MY ORDER. I CALLED THE RESTAURANT AND SPOKE TO THE MANAGER AND I WAS TOLD THAT I CAN COME BACK FOR MY CHIPS. DON'T GET ME WRONG THE PRICE AND SUSHI ARE GOOD BUT W/ SERVICE LIKE THIS.......I'D RATHER PASS. more

Just your average sushi place... 8/2/2006

This is my experience so please refrain from flaming my review.\r \r Kabuki is your average sushi restaurant with nothing really special to offer. The sushi is mediocre, at best and the service could be a bit better. I'm into all the sushi, not just california rolls and your basic sushi. I'll eat just about everything. However, Kabuki doesn't really have the greatest fish. Sure the food is served quickly, but you can taste it and see it in both presentation and flavor. Kabuki is the ""get-by"" sushi place. Theres a small place across the mall called Sushi Samurai that i'd recommend, there's also Haru-Haru in Long Beach near the Marina Pacifica that servers amazing sushi. The spider rolls at Kabuki are almost always cold. However, if you're feeling sushi at a discounted price, Kabuki is the place to be. If you're not big on exploring different fish and flavors, then Kabuki is the place for you. Their menu caters to new and average sushi lovers and won't really be fulfilling to a sushi lover. Again, this is my experience, but I know many others who feel the same way. Pros: 50% off during lunch I believe, fairly quick service, parking. Cons: Quantity, not quality. more
