That's right! Run, Don't walk!!! I'm a Spa and beauty editor and I just love this place and especially people who work there!!! Due to my work I have to try a lot of places but I ...

I went on a Monday afternoon after getting a discount coupon on line for $100 service for $50, and after being told that the Friday afternoon appointment I wanted was impossible, ...

This Place is Awful! 4/5/2006

Please save your time and money. This place is a hoax. They barely have the staff or resources to keep up with a regular clientele. Everytime I call I am placed on hold for several minutes before I am told that they day I am requesting (a month in advance) is unavailable. The services are ridiculously overpriced for what you get. The mani and pedi lasts a while, but no value considering what you pay. Not the true spa experience you can get in NY elsewhere. more

Karen is the best! 3/3/2006

The atmosphere at Just Calm Down is amazing. They are extremely accommodating, and will always try to squeeze you in if they are booked. KAREN is the best! There is no one else that I would go to. She works quickly, and it's as pain free as one could hope for. Definitely ask for Karen when you go to Just Calm Down. more

Valentine's Day SPAtacular!!! 2/24/2006

WOW! just calm down is absolutely the most amazing spa!! The gracious receptionist adds a warmth to NYC Spas. We loved how nice and sweet everyone was. Sure beats the uptight spas all around town! Surprised to read that other JCD spa goers would rather be ingnored then have the accomodating receptionist and staff make them feel like royalty. The services were excellent. In between our massages and Pedicures, we were given delicious drinks to sip! Our Marriage of FIGaro massage was a dream and the pedicures were simply heaven! The room was candlelit and smelled beautifully from the delicious oils used! The pedicure tent took us away from our busy lives! Although the spa was extremely busy, the staff waited on us hand and foot. We never felt so special. We really felt like royalty. For first class treatments and treatment this is the only place to spa!! Pros: excellent services, calming ambiance, fabulous staff more

Best Spa Ever! 2/23/2006

Had the best time at just calm down. I was given a beautiful gift certificate for an entire day of relaxation. I was so lucky to have The Movie Star Couples Massage, O2 Joy Facial and The Mysterious Wisteria Lane Mani and Pedi. I even got to choose my own music! wow! First my love and I had the Massages side by side in the sweetest candlelit room, which I must say was absolutely perfect! It was my boy's first massage ever and now he is HOOKED! I am still glowing from my facial and it has been over a week! The Pedicure was fabulous and like nothing I have ever experienced! It even came with the best hot cocoa! just calm down has great services and the warmest environment and staff! I am so lucky to have gotten this gift and have already gifted a bunch of friends! Pros: perfect services, highly educated staff, warm environment more

It's Valentine's Day... 2/14/2006

What a waste. Save your money PLEASE. The receptionist does call you honey and sweety and puts on a show that sounds fake. She kept saying we were getting a couples massage and when we went in we had individual massages; After the ladies introduced themselves to us the receptionist came running and switched them and the one that took my husband gave an attitude; The massage was horrendous. I felt like i paid $150 to lay in a waterbed for one hour. I let them pick a cd themselves and for a good 10 minutes the cd just stopped and there was no music. The sheets smelled and i felt like someone else had just used them. When i came out, waited for my husband and asked him how he enjoyed it and he too complained exactly of the same thing. I certaintly DO NOT recommend this place. Pros: location Cons: expensive, Loud more

Unsatisfying...Misleading...Dissapointed 2/14/2006

Just Calm Down is hardly the notion suggested by the abrupt receptionist. After being belittled by the staff, I was ushered into a seemingly calming massage, which was necessary after the extra 30 minute wait tacked on to my already 15 minute early arrival. The service was far from what I had expected. My massage was average, but most definitely NOT worth the money, time or aggravation. I think they should save the "Just Calm Down" part for after you get your pricey bill for such an unsatisfying service. Pros: location Cons: poor service, price more

A Calming Experience 2/8/2006

This was definately the very best facial and message I have ever experienced. I got a gift certificate and now I am hooked on Just Calm Down. I have been to spas all over the world but this one stands out for its wonderful staff, great atmosphere, and fabulous services. I came back a second time with a friend and we both had the Mysterious Wysteria Lane Pedicure. It was devine. It even came with a delicious apple cider. It was the best pedicure ever. Cannot wait to go back again for the Raindrop Message. Pros: Friendly staff, comfortable surroundi, excellent service more

JUST NOT CALM AT ALL 2/4/2006

I have been a new york city resident for 15 years and have tried many spa's. I thought I would try this spa after reading the great reviews on Citysearch. What a mistake. First off, the receptionist was extremley pushy and refered to me as "honey and sweety" which was completely annoying! The massage was ok but for the money there are MUCH better spa's in new york. "Just Save Your Money and Go Elsewhere"! Pros: location Cons: Staff, Price more

No joke serious massages 1/31/2006

Seems frilly girly spot at first glance but my girlfriend convinced me to go for a deep tissue for aching upper back! The Movie Star treatment along with my own CD selection melted away my muscles like no other! My therapist rocks! Thanks Judie for the attentive session! Friendly owner with pyschelic americana artwork to meditate on. Great individualistic personality. Not the usual sterile norm around town. Pros: laid back, on time, attentive Cons: n/a, n/a, n/a more

Best detox ever! 1/28/2006

Went on a friend's recommendation, and was I surprised! Friendly woman with red locks greeted me with such charmed demeanor, I felt right at home! Hospitable staff. Really focused on getting me relaxed! Had the Pitter Patter Massage and felt immediate detoxing running through my body! My therapist was a healer! The cute homey decorations and music selection of my own? I am regular! more

The most glorious spa experience ever! 1/4/2006

I went into this spa just expecting a good massage, nothing more. However, I have to say, the massage I received along with the atmosphere and the detail paid to my preferences was amazing. As soon as I walked in the door, the receptionist greeting me with a huge smile and very welcoming attitude, i was very impressed. The massage was just incredible, I was instantly put at ease and relaxed. I will definitely be recommending Just Calm Down to my friends and will most definitely be frequenting Just Calm Down, not only for my massages but manicures, pedicures and facials. Pros: service, preferences, diversity Cons: none more

c'mon down to just calm down! 1/3/2006

It Just Calmed Me Down! A Superb Experience. 1/2/2006

I ordinarily don't write reviews. However, I felt that this experience in particular must be documented: I was getting ready for the holiday and made an appointment for a manicure/pedicure and massage. From the first moment I called I was thoroughly pleased with the efficiency, warmth and proffessionalism that exuded from the receptionist...who later I found out was the manager of the Spa. My manicure and pedicure were exceptional. With fresh ingredients and a practiced hand. My Massage....MASTERFUL. Upon completion of my appointment, I was greated once again by the kindest manager, and offered some tea. The experience was SUPERB! For its tranquil, inviting atmoshere (amazing morroccan style tent), professionalism, and exceptional service. This spa is run like a finely tuned swiss watch....and is still able to retain the essential essence and core of what a spa should be! Calming and Serene. Impeccable and accomodating. I can't wait to return! Pros: Service,, Inviting Atmosphere, Professionalism Cons: n/a more

Ripped off and In need of some Bliss 12/11/2005

After trying to make an appointment for over 5 months, I was surely ready for my jewelicious treatment this past weekend. Was approached by the owner to upgrade my gift certificate to a more epxensive treatment which I bought her sales job. The heat treatment was ok - not worth the extra $35..the additional half hour I was offered for my neck was also good - but completely NOT worth the $115 bill I was handed on the way out... All in a 90 minute treatment cost over $220..I'll take Bliss ANYDAY! Will never ever go back, not recommend this place. Pros: skilled massuese Cons: costly, obnoxious more

An All Around 10 10/6/2005

Had a fantastic time! If you are looking for a Spa that is warm, cozy, down to earth with exceptional services, this is the place. When I called to book my appointments I could not believe how friendly and informative the receptionist was. As an avid spa-goer, this in itself was wonderfully refreshing! I knew I had picked a winner! This fabulous feeling continued the day of my service. The masage and facial were by far the best I ever had. In case you are interested, Nadia was my facialist and Nicole my massage therapist! Kudos! The atmosphere was delightful as well. I recommend just calm down to anyone looking for the best spa experience ever!! Pros: the nicest staff, customized music, down to earth more

totally dissapointed from out of town!! 9/29/2005

Contrary to the reviews , this spa was not relaxing what so ever! I dont understand how this is one of "the editors favorites" by citysearch.com! The receptionist who refers to people as hon or darling (which is so condescending!!) is so in your face. I came here to relax, not get harassed the minute I walk through the door! The services were mediocre at best and very expensive! Who would ever waste their money with that? I am going to leave it to the pros where I know Ill get good service for less money next time I come to NYC! A big dissapointment! I was also told to show up 15 minutes before my massage and I cannot believe I had to wait an extra 20 minutes for my appointment to begin! What a waste of money! more

BEST SPA IN NEW YORK! 9/24/2005

I have been to many spa's in the city and this is the best one by far. Their massage and facial services are to die for. The staff is super friendly and cater to your every need. You can even pick your own music. For any Spa/beauty junkies out there JUST CALM DOWN IS A MUST. Trust me after one visit, you will keep coming back for more! Pros: service, atmosphere Cons: none more

Good massage, but terrible customer service!!! 8/16/2005

I'd rather spend my hard earned $$$$ at a place where my business is appreciated. I showed up 5 minutes before my appointment, and was given a form to fill out. After waiting for someone to come and get me for 10 minutes, I finally waved down the massage therapist myself and told her I was ready. The massage was good, but I noticed it was only 45 minutes instead of 1 hour. I nonchalantly mentioned this to the owner, who proceeded to argue with me that I was late, and that the massage starts at the appointment time. To make matters more annoying, she kept calling me "sweetie" and "honey." Whatever. I paid my bill and decided to get my massages elsewhere. Pros: Massage Cons: Customer service, Overpriced more

The Best 5/25/2005

just calm down is my favorite spa in NYC. Planned my friends bachelorette Party with the owner and she was fantastic. She was very upfront with all the spa ettiquite, and I am overly surprised that another reviewer felt that just because they booked a fabulous mani/pedi party, the other wonderful facets of this spa (massage and facial services) are to be utterly ignored due to their own lack of both respect and regard to everone else but themselves! If you want to scream and spread your rudeness unto others, then why wouldn't you just stay home, and not just calm down! This spa is the most wonderful taste of spa life in nyc that I or any of my girlfriends have yet to find. This has been the fifth party that I have been fortunate enough to be a part of. In three words, THIS PLACE ROCKS! Pros: FANTASTIC, GREAT SERVICES, ACCOMODATING more

I couldn't get her to shut up. 2/12/2005

I got a massage for my birthday (back in September). It was the woman's second week. She was not very good. I was hoping it would get better -0- but oh well, I paid too much, I would live. I started to relax a bit -- and then came the chatting. I am pretty shy, so I didn't know how to ask her not to be quiet without being rude, so I spent 1 hour being her therapist. more

Editorial
  • Situated in a glossy Flatiron space, Just Calm Down was created by a beauty junkie who put her years of spa-going to good use. The result is a place where the client calls the shots, choosing everything from music to the ingredients and scents used in treatments. Patrons pick the oil blend for massages--and, with some guidance, products for their facial. Truly decadent are the manicures and pedicures, which use ingredients like apples and flowers.
