fun! 2/18/2010

I had an awesome time singing a long and dancing at Joshua Tree. The drinks were slightly pricey for the atmosphere. The staff was also pretty rude to us for pretty much no reason at all. Pros: music Cons: the staff more

Great times!!!!!! 11/18/2009

Having just moved to Murray Hill was looking for a bar to call my own. Joshua Tree fits the bill. Was there a number of times over the past two months and havent been disappointed yet. Always gets a good crowd (although sometimes to much of a crowd) was also there for the yankee world series win and there was a great atmosphere. Definately my new local. Pros: Good food, great for sports, friendly staff. Cons: Sometimes to busy more

Plenty of creepy guys. 12/18/2008

Back in college we went to joshua tree all the time. somehow, I still wind up there from time to time when I'm completely bombed out of my face. the place is kind of dump, in a generic, murray hill bar kind of way. the crowd is probably about half bridge and tunnel & half college students. If you go there with female friends be prepared for extremely aggressive guys who try to dry hhump anything that moves. But maybe I'm just sore because I recently had my jacket stolen after i left it on a seat for about 10 minutes. classy place, classy crowd. also, the food at Joshua tree makes Guantanamo Bay seem like Le Bernardin. Pros: Plenty of creepy guys, sweeet. Cons: the place is full of cretins. more

Perfect pre/post show spot. 12/1/2008

Good food, good service. Go for the pre-fixe menu, it's fairly priced and they serve generous portions. A perfect place to hang out with friends for dinner and drinks. Good place if you're going to a show cause it's right around theater district. Enjoy! Pros: Nice bar Cons: Slower service on the weekends more

Lot of Expats 8/10/2008

Crowded. Packed with out-of-towner recent college grads who just moved to New York for their first jobs. more

Meh 7/16/2008

A moderately fun place to hang out but nothing special. I visited on a Saturday night which is apparently 80s night and must admit that while campy the barrage of great old 80s videos blaring from what seem to be dozens of screens all around the joint was entertaining and refreshing. The crowd is decent enough - most patrons I encountered were just looking to have a good time and enjoying themselves like human beings unlike the swarm of meatheads and ditzy girls I usually encounter at places like Joshua Tree. The downside When I say crowd, however, I mean CROWD. I was taught in high school that the laws of physics dictate no two objects can occupy the same space at the same time but after visiting Joshua Tree I'm pretty sure the laws of physics don't apply there, because this place was PACKED - A fire hazard and a half. The drinks there were also a little on the unreasonable side in terms of price. A full night at JT will definitely clean your wallet out. Otherwise the place is adequate. Bartenders are reasonably friendly and for a place as crowded as it was the bouncers were not overbearing or rude at all. If you're the sort of person who can put up with sardine-can like crowding and pricey drinks for the sake of a fun crowd and lots of pretty girls, this place is for you. Pros: Ambience, Music, Fellow Patrons Cons: CROWDED, Expensive more

Love the bartenders 3/25/2008

I have been a regular in Joshua tree for years and still love it!Its great on the quiet nites and the bartenders are always friendly. Theres always something goin on 2 keep us entertained. Prices are new york standard and they do a great lunch special! Pros: The staff are great Cons: crowded at the weekends more

Worst Drink 7/21/2007

I went to Joshua Tree to have a Margarita, it was ridiculous. I got this terrible "lemondade" in a cheap water glass no less and with no salt. They have nerve to call it a "classic" margarita and to charge $9 for this. At least if you are going to overcharge for this so called Margarita, put it is a Margarita glass and put some salt on it. I should have refused to pay for it. Don't bother getting one there. When I asked the waitress for salt, she said "well at least she didn't put ice it it liked you asked", I guess I should have been grateful. $17 for a draft beer and Margarita, not worth the expense. Cons: Overpriced Drinks more

MY NEW FAVORITE BAR!!! 7/16/2007

My friend recomended this bar to me, and i ended up ther 3 nights in a row because of how much i loved it. The drinks weren't overpriced, 3 drinks cost me 21$, which i think it good for nyc. I LOVED the music and the crowd. I have been asking myself where women in their lower to mid 20s meet attractive men in nyc, and i've realized they're all hiding at joshua tree on weeknights. I will be backing the trip back very soon! more

too crowded & too drunk 4/16/2007

I like the music but not the overpriced drinks or crowds of people who are too drunk to see. I put my coat down here and it was stolen in 10 minutes. Lesson: learned. Pros: people who want to kiss you Cons: people who want to kiss you more

Good time, great music! 3/5/2007

I went here for my 26th birthday. It was good. We went for dinner which was a HUGE mistake. The food was good but there was no seperate dining area, only the bar area so we had to sit in a dark corner booth and couldn't see anything. Definitely more of a drinking place. The plus about having the table was that we had table service all night long after the dinner was over. The music is great! Loved seeing the videos from the 80s and early 90s. I never had MTV back then so they were new to me! They played New Kids on the Block several times which was awesome! Later in the night the place started getting really crowded and I felt old at 26, like maybe we were the oldest people there. It was hard to navigate through the crowd to the bathroom or to head outside for a smoke. Went outside once for a cig and the bouncer didn't remember me and my ID was inside so that was a bit of a hassel. The worst part of the evening, which definitely caused us to leave, was that some drunken 21 year old (if she was even that old) had thrown up all over the bathroom in one stall and in the sink so only one stall was working, the line was huge, and it reaked. No one came to clean it up so we ditched. But anyway, back to the good things, great music and good service. If you are an old geeser like me, haha, I recommend going early. Pros: Awesome music and great service! Cons: Too many young drunk girls. more

Had the wine and lived to tell about it 1/5/2007

I'm not a beer-drinker, but I still had a good time at this neighborhood bar. The food was better than average and the service was decent. I liked the 80s videos. It starts to get ridiculously crowded around 11, even on weeknights. The crowd has the appearance of thinking they're more interesting than they actually are, but no one specifically bothered me. I'd go back, but only because it's nearby. Pros: good food, 80s videos Cons: crowded more

Classic 80's bonanza 12/16/2006

I've stopped by here many times and always had a great time. There is nothing greater than walking in, seeing a video of "It's Raining Men" or "I Wear My Sunglasses at Night" to know it's a great place to bring a group of friends. Of course the obligatory JBJ and GNR ring true about once an hour, but beyond that it's a great time for some classic 80's and sometimes '90's songs. If there is a gripe, it's that it is very crowded, and they tend to play the same songs often so it's hard to make it a regular spot without getting bored. Be prepared to hold your own coat for the entire night as there are no coat checks and seating is very limited. At the least though, you know what you're getting every time. If you're a fan of the 80's, this is a must-go to experience. Pros: The music videos Cons: Crowded, limited seating, not much variation in the song rotation more

A bit too much B&T at the weekends, great bar stuff, randomly strict bouncer 11/15/2006

The JT is a great bar any midweek evening or during the day and the chicken wings are some of the best in town, you wont find better barstaff anywhere either! Remember not to get a table against the wall at the weekend as you'll find you'll loose it the moment it gets busy - still a great spot to watch the 80's videos though. Remember ID, at least 2 different forms as the bouncers have a tendency to be overly strict from time to time... more

80's videos all night long 10/22/2006

Great place to go dancing to 80's music when its not crowded but most of the time its crowded with college aged kids that push shove and fight each other. The food is ok.. regular bar food. Expect to pay around $10/meal. Drinks for happy hour are around $3 for a beer otherwize its $5. I get annoyed at the clientelle but I just keep going back. Pros: 80's videos Cons: crowded more

great atmosphere 8/11/2006

we had lunch at this wonderfu, small and intimate place filled with broadway posters and friendly servers. we had a lovely view of the city as we dined on lartge prtions of fresh food presented craftly and deftly to our palets. it was just the right combination of quality and qunatity; this should suit all eaters and theater-goers. i highly reccommend this quaint and enjoyable eaterie. Pros: quite, well lit, attentive staff. Cons: not enough room on the first level. more

This bouncer needs a reality check 5/27/2006

Joshua Tree continues to think its "the" hotspot in NYC. New flash, its 2006 and JT isn't anywhere close. The bouncer needs to lose his attitude. Cons: Bouncer's attitude more

Good Neighborhood Place 5/22/2006

Joshua tree is always packed during dinner and happy hour. However, the bar food is average......half of my cheese nachos were burnt to a crisp and the quesidillas wasn't that great. Drinks are cheap but again, not that great. Overall, a good place for low-priced drinks but not outstanding. more
