No longer Jopa's! It is now Joe's 1/20/2012

No longer Jopa's! It is now Joe's Burgers. Same owners, but now more sports pub-y, burgers, tacos etc. and less fancy drink selection. Good happy hour and vegetarian selection. more

Just ate dinner at JoPa 5/14/2011

The prices were reasonable...but the flavor of what I ordered were not good. The Caesar salad had creamy not Caesar salad on it. And the romaine lettuce was a bit too much like bag of lettuce. They also had a wonderful beet salad. But what they did was unforgiveable. I ordered the fish tacos, and they were so bad that I had to reject them. the avocado topping was spritzey, as in it had gone bad, and the combinations of flavors was not good, although initially it looked like it might be good: olives, mandarine oranges, avos, and cod. But yuk, it did not combine well. However, I would have just eaten it- but the avocado topping was spoiled and I returned it to the kitchen. The stinger was we were still charged for it. So, I will never return to this restaurant. more

Good potential but ruined by over-flavoring 10/17/2010

The fresh pasta in the puttanesca was great, and the halibut was superb, but both dishes were way too salty. The butternut squash ravioli was good, but boring (needed more life and texture). Service was excellent, but we would not go back, not with unlimited choice in the Portland area. more

A wonderful date night 10/2/2010

Wouldn't go back 4/13/2010

We were excited to try Jopa for the first time after reading all the wonderful reviews. We had try to go about a year ago only to find it wasn't open on certain days of the week. When reading on the website it was now open every day of the week, we decided to go on Monday for my birthday. The parking lot was packed but there was plenty of available tables inside. Pros: Decent bottles of wine under $20 and Service Cons: Taste of and preperation of food more

Fantastic food and service 11/1/2009

Best marinara sauce we've ever had. Lots of choices on the menu and everything is good. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Don't wait, go tonight. Pros: food, atmosphere, location Cons: can be spendy more

Good food and cheap wine 7/14/2009

Jopa is a nice restaurant for adults. It?s quiet, dimly lit and the service is always friendly. If you go, try the little personal pizzas ? they are always delectable. Pros: 1/2 off wine on some nights, parking, quiet more

Everything here is delicious! 5/22/2009

Jopa is amazing. My husband and I have been there several times and never had a negative experience with anything! Their steak is one of the best we've ever had. Their chicken entrees are deliciously moist. The butterscotch creme brulee was SO good! The appetizers are also good, especially the salmon skewers. They frequently have unique weekly specials that we order more often than not. On Tuesdays all wine is half off, making it more affordable to have a great night! We have always been seated right away when we come there, and the servers know their stuff! They make great recommendations and are real pros. The cocktails are made very well, try the Arrogant Gimlet if you are a gin fan. The only downside about this wonderful place is the price; I wish I could afford to go more often! Pros: Great food, half price wine on Tuesdays, nice service Cons: expensive more

Awful Easter service 4/13/2009

Took the family for Easter brunch, arriving early when very few diners had arrived. Service was a struggle from beginning to end. Buffet food was lukewarm and bland. Sad Easter meal for us. Pros: nicely decorated space Cons: bland food, careless service more

I like this place 4/3/2009

I like the wait staff, the ambience, the music. Nice space upstairs for private events. Great salmon skewers. The one negative: the desserts. Not really my type of desserts. Pros: good service, plenty of parking more

Good admosphere, nice waitstaff, nice happy hour menu 3/8/2009

Although, I didn't like their pizza, the person that gave them no pros sounded like the competition more than a customer. It's a good place to go to eat. more

Oh so yummy! 1/2/2009

My family and I absolutely love this place! This neighborhood joint has got it right. Their food is incredible, and because you loved it so much last time it's hard to get something different than what you enjoyed previously. But the creative specials never fail to impress me even more than my menu favorites, so try one when you go in. The service has never been anything but excellent, being attentive, knowledgable, and charismatic. One of the owners is also the Market Master of the large Beaverton Farmers' Market that happens just a few miles away, ensuring the variety of local, fresh, cruelty free food that is yet another factor that brings our family back to JoPa again and again. Portion sizes are great and they have the best lemon drop in town. Obviously we highly recommend Jopa for lunch, dinner, or catering. They do onsite or offsite catering that is professional and flexible (which you can explore on their website joparestaurant(dot)com). We have had a birthday party there and we just did a holiday party at home (before the snow came:) that both were loved. Classic great place to go! Pros: Awesome food, sweet service, off-street parking, house-made drinks Cons: None that we've seen! more

I love this place! 12/1/2008

I've been here several times with friends and co-workers, and even rented out their upstairs ""party"" room for a work function. Never, not once, have I had a bad experience. Great food, good prices, great service, good sized portions all add up to a great experience I would go back for again and again -- but not on Mondays -- they're closed Mondays! Pros: Consistently a great experience, good prices, GREAT food! Cons: Maybe a wait for a table at peak times more

JOPA is FABULOUS! 11/11/2008

Jopa's food is ALWAYS great. We have been dining there off and on for years. If they had breakfast, we'd go, too. Pros: Affordable very good food, great service, affordable WINE, especially Tuesdays Cons: water needs to be filtered, only 1 bathroom and hard to get into on weekends more

VIVA JoPa!!! 8/7/2008

I don't give out kudo's that arn't well deserved, but JoPa rightly deserves a platter of raves. We've been to this hidden treasure three times now and, with every visit we vow to return again as soon as possible. Why travel and fight parking in downtown P-town when there's this culinary delight right below Hillsdale? The ambiance of JoPa is unique, open and very comfortable. Everything we've had on the menu has been freshly superb to perfection. We've taken our kids there and, dined alone. My wife discovered JoPa when she attended a dinner conference in their upper floor meeting rooms. Their creative chef has crafted a menu that appeals to all tastes, flavors and moods. After dining at Jopa, I feel as if I've been to a different time and city, but it's still in Portland...and you owe yourself a visit. Pros: Great dining, extensive wine & beer list, cool building and ambiance, plenty of easy parking. Cons: Zip, nodda, nyet, none. more

Very Good Italian Restaurant 8/5/2008

Went to Jopa for the first time. It was very good. The five of us divided up five different entrees and all of them were things I would get again. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. To the person who wrote the previous e-mail about brunch, you should try Seasons and Regions on Capitol Hwy. Saturdays or Sundays. Their brunch is outstanding. more

Great Serivce and Food every time! 7/28/2008

We love this neighborhood place. it is adorable inside. Clean facility, excellent service and I've always had a great meal here. I appreciate that they use local produce and support local businesses. Their menu is well-thought-out and creative. Great drinks and a good wine list that is reasonably priced, unlike most Portland restaurants! Portions are really nice - not too much that you feel totally gross after - but you are definitely full. Good French fries. I wish this place would open for brunch though - I bet they cod do a great job and we need another GOOD brunch spot (like Marco's) on this side of town. Pros: Great food, cute decor, well priced Cons: Not open for Brunch :( . . . please consider it ! more

Not great this time 5/13/2008

Having been to Jopa several times and always enjoyed it, I was very dissapointed this last time. My family (7 of us and 2 little ones) went for pre Mother's day. Our waitress was great. The food was not good. Our food was cold and my garlic mashed potatoes were runny and too heavy on the garlic. The sausage lasagna was not a favorite and the rockfish was bland. I will give it another try next month, but if it continues to same, Jopa may be off my list. My drink a Huckleberry Lemon drop was awesome. more

Great place any night of the week 3/13/2008

JoPa is a fun neighborhood restaurant for almost any occasion. You can go dressed up or just go casual, which is nice. They've got good pizzas and beers, and also their 2.95 happy hour is a steal. We got the miniture hamburger shooters and the calamari- both were great.. Everything on the menu sounds good so its hard to decide what to get. All the servers I've had have been really nice and very accomodating for my pickier friends. I would definately recomend JoPa, especially for the people who don't want to deal with the hassle of going downtown. more
