Best

We started with the bacon wrapped shrimp. They were really good. For an entree we split the special which was the surf and turf with lobster and fillet Mignon. Okay... seriously.....

Worst

The ambiance was average but the food was below. Pros: Nice patio Cons: Sub Standard Food, poor customer service from manager.

Maitre'd is a gauche man! 2/5/2009

The Maitre'D is a slovenly, tasteless boor. He wears a cheap suit and jingles his change in his pocket. There must be a couple of faux gold chains beneath the J C Penny's polyester necktie he wears. My point? I went to this man to complain that after a one hour wait for a table we found the service to be rude and the food lacking in quality. His reply? ""Nobody else seems to have a problem!"" I mean really! I thought this was a joke but the sad truth is that the front line management probably trained at a sleazy Poconos supper club because that is precisely how this man behaved! We will never return to Jonathan's! Cons: Tasteless, boorish manager - what a horrible man! more

The food was terrible but the staff was outrageous 2/2/2009

Let's see...bad food but far worse service adds up to the worst place I have ever eaten. We are fond of upscale so we thought we would give this place a try. It took forever to get seated and then only after I asked for a third time. We were a bit miffed but after waiting 20 minutes we thought the rest would be easy. Were we wrong! We ordered calamari, crab cakes and escargot for appetizers and these took 25 minutes to get to our table. They must have been sitting in the kitchen for that entire time because they were all cold and soggy. Yuck. We told our waiter about this and he just walked away without any comment. Our entrees arrived after another 20 minutes and again these were lukewarm. Is there anything more disheartening than cold chicken and steak? That was enough for us and we started for the door only to have the staff confront us - actually blocking our path. This had to be the most bizarre experience we have ever had in a restaurant. I cannot recommend this place with any conscience. Cons: Cold food and pisspoor service more

Waiter passed gas at our table! 2/1/2009

We went here for dinner. Everything was pretty slow - getting seated, menus, water, food order. Well we're eating our meal, finally, when the waiter is at our table pouring water refills. He suddenly turns, points his butt cheeks at us, and rips off a long, greasy fartt. He then turns back around and resumes pouring us water. We have never been subjected to such rude and crude behavior - we are speechless. I finally ask this kid what is his problem and he tells me that he ate in the kitchen before his shift and he's had bad flatulence all night. He then wanders away from our table without any word of apology. I cannot believe he did not pass gas in our face without intent as it was too contrived. Needless to say we will never eat at this place ever again! Cons: Waiter farted in our faces more

Completely unacceptable behaviour! 1/28/2009

We had dinner here last night. The food was pretty average but that is not the reason I am posting. No. During the meal I happened to get up to use the Gent's. My business was light and quick and I was in and out in less than two minutes. After about 10 minutes the female manager comes over to the table and loudly accuses me of having choked up the bowl in the men's toilet! I was speechless but I realized that every eye in the room was squarely on me - I have never been so humilated, ever! I protested that it wasn't I who commited this outrage but I am still not sure why she was accusing me as the correct course of action would have been to address the problem discreetly by unplugging the toilet. In any event, she seemed to want to accuse me of causing the problem but didn't seem to want me to do anything about it. What this public outburst did, however, was spoil the appetite of everyone in the dining room. She was loudly talking about the bowl being choked up with fecal matter. This ruined the meal and people began to get up to leave. We did too but this is when she starts screaming for payment for our meal. I told her she ruind the meal and we would not be paying for it! She now wants us to pay for the others who are leaving as I caused this whole scene! I was speechless! Utterly without words! The last I heard was her screeching about calling the police on me. This was a terrible experience. I recommend strongly that you give this place a miss. Cons: Bad odors and savage behaviour of staff more

A treat for the senses...especially the robust aroma of BM! 1/27/2009

The food is nothing special if not bad and the service is almost surreal. Our entrees lacked sufficient meat and became cold pretty fast suggesting they were microwaved. We asked for rare but this was anything but. Whenever we tried to get a server's attenton we were ignored and the few times she came to the table she was down right rude. But the awful part is the bathroom is right too close to the dining area of the restaurant and one of the guests went in there and did his business. It must have been something big because we sure did get wind of it! I mean, it was peeling paint in the dining area! This was the final outrage in an awful experience so we got out of there fast. Problem was the waitress didn't come by so we left some cash on the table and left in a flurry of pinched nostrils and grabbing coats. Next thing we see is the manager running out into the parking lot after us claiming we were skipping out on the check! Can you believe it! We are still laughing about this whole thing! Cons: The smell of feces during our meal more

This was a terrible experience in every aspect 1/27/2009

One cannot imagine a more terrible experience. The food was exceptionally bad in quality, preparation, and presentation. We had steak and each was ill-prepared by the kitchen. No matter really as the meat quality was marginal with lots of gristle and tendons. The wine card was promising but they must be storing it in an oven as we ordered three bottles and each was off. We told our waiter about this and he told us that the wine was fine! The final indignity was the toilet - the bowl was clogged up by someone and the manager accused us of choking it up with fecal matter! That was really enough and we left in disgust. Cons: Accused by manager of clogging toilet! more

Hells Bells but this is a terrible restaurant! 1/20/2009

The food here is awful, especially the steak. They have lots of stupid things on the menu like buffalo and ostrich - stuff nobody would likely eat so yopu end up ordering a steak. I am hear to tell you the meat was really not good at all. Each of us got a steak, ribeye or NY strip, and each of us was bitterly disappointed. The meat was not prime. In fact it could not have been choice either. I think they refreeze the meat as it is really tough and chewy. Itis also full of gristle rather than nicely marbled since it is dry. The worst of it is the service. We vcomplained about the meat being inedible and the manager challenges us about what we know about meat! It was strange but then so was the whole evening. This was like a bad acid trip and we will never go back to Jonathan's. Pros: Tough chewy meat and a boneheaded manager Cons: The food is awful the service slow and the ambiance poor more

Cook didn't wash hands after using toilet and food was bad anyhow 1/15/2009

This place was all around lousy. We went for a nice meal and ended up getting burgers at the Burger King drive-thru. The food was pricey, especially for what you get in terms of quality. They put on some real airs at this place too so don't be surprised at their snooty behavior. Anyhow the food was pretty lame but the final straw was going to the men's room and seeing the chef emerge from a stall and walk stright out without so much as a drop of water hitting his hands - much less any soap! That was enough so we left. It was almost $200 for four WITHOUT booze! The food was awful, the service snobbish, and the chef took a dump and then didn't wash his hands. We left and slammed into BK on the way home. Never again do we go to Jonathan's. Pros: Nothing noted Cons: Feces on chef's hands? Would you dare eat here? more

Awful food. This place is managed by a very strange man too 1/14/2009

Brother, where to start. I heard about this place for a business dinner so I made a reservation. As soon as I walked in I knew it was a mistake. The atmosphere is pretty dated and just looks tired. The color scheme is all orange and brown. On the walls they have put up these cheap pictures everywhere. Not sure who decorated but it was somebody stuck in 1972. I expected to see sideburns, bell bottoms, and chains against hairy chests! Cons: Terrible food, cook seen not washing his hands after using the gents, Bizzare manager more

No doubt: This is a terrible restaurant! 1/7/2009

This is a place with great pretensions - menu and wine card - but it delivers on nothing. The worst of it is not the disappointment of unfulfilled promise but the surly attitude of the management. They are not just terrible at service; they are really arrogant, stupid boors. Do not bother with Jonathan's Cork - it is a really bad place. Cons: Poorly prepared food of dubious quality, surly management more

Pathetic Place - food, service, decor are all sub-standard 1/3/2009

3 of us went here for steaks and wine after a great day of tennis. We had worked up an appetite so pretty much anything would have satisfied. Our first impression of this restaurant was when we walked into a time warp - it was like a scene from the Brady Bunch. Very dated and musty feel to it. We get seated and a young man pitches up but cannot explain the menu nor the wine list. We settle on steaks and familiar zins and merlots. The zin was off and the meat was tough and stringy. We mention this to the server but he just shrugged so we ask to speak to the manager. This cretin comes over and berates us! Can you believe it? We were almost in fear given the venom this man was spitting! This was an awful experience - everything was well below the line! We will not return and you should not patronize such an establishment Cons: Abysmal treatment by manager, poor quality food and wine more

Uninspiring Dump Managed by Boorish Oaf 12/17/2008

This place has a musty 60's feel to it. It has an ""artsy"" nouvelle menu but that is a lie - you can dress up a clown but you know the truth once he opens his mouth. We should have looked at the decor of this dump and walked right out but we felt obliged given the anxious looks on the faces of the staff. The menu seemed promising but the meat was stringy and tough - a far cry from the ""buffalo"" steak promised. Pros: Nothing Cons: Really awful food, terrible service more

A very poor experience - food and service were less than wanting! 11/12/2008

The ambiance is pretty bland and seems like a time warp from the 70's. The food looked promising on the menu but the reality was overcooked and bland. The kitchen thinks that they can cook up anything and smother it in a rich sauce and they are being ""continental."" As terrible as all of this, though, the service was the real disaster. The staff was slow and not at all personal but when poorly cooked meat was brought to their attention we got the cold shoulder! We asked to see the manager but this clod hopper couldn't be bothered in the least! This was an awful experience - I cannot recommend this palce in any way. Please save yourself the bother as it is really bad! Pros: Horrid food and service and the manager is rude Cons: the food is ridiculously priced more

This was an awful experience in every possible way - bad wine, terrible food, and a boorish violent manager 11/1/2008

A small group of us went to Jonathans after a fine day on the links. We each ordered the grilled salad and a strip steak. We started with a very over priced merlot and found it bland and wanting. Our salads arrived and these were nothing special, if not a bit wilted. But the real issue was the meat. Each of us ordered a medium rare steak and each was cooked differently - none of them medium rare. They ranged from medium to very well done, mine being the most gray and lifeless. We brought this to the waiter's attention and the next thing you know the manager is out on the patio screaming at us! This was really outrageous! We did nothing to warrant such ill treatment! This man is crude and unfit for the customer service business. I can tell you we will never return to this place again. We should have noted the interior decor - truly tasteless 1960's fixed up basement. The manager was crude and boorish. You must avoid this place completely! Pros: NOTHING Cons: Violent Manager, tasteless decor, poor quality food more

Not really up to par 8/25/2008

The ambiance was average but the food was below. Pros: Nice patio Cons: Sub Standard Food, poor customer service from manager. more

Wonderfully dressed up casual 4/9/2006

Wonderful atmosphere with an outgoing, friendly owner and helpful staff. Steak and lobster dish superb, filet was perfectly medium rare. The baseball teriyaki steak was a big hit with my boyfriend who also greatly enjoyed their ""famous mud pie"" while I sipped my bailey's and coffee. Great selection of wines; server was more than happy to provide suggestions and made the dining experience even better- no wonder there are so many regulars that were sitting at adjacent tables, we have become two regulars ourselves after such a wonderful meal. more

Seafood in the desert? 1/13/2003

I was suprised about the fresh seafood. Apparently there are three choices daily. The owner came out and talked. Very funny and friendly. He trained at Commanders Palace which happens to be rated as the #1 restaurant in the U.s. Fantastic daily soups. Great Prime Rib, blackened. Pros: great soup, fair prices, great fish for az more

  • The Scene
The brick-walled dining rooms have an understated Southwest decor, while a secluded patio with a mesquite grill offers a fair view of the mountains. It's easy to just sit back and indulge here--the atmosphere is more relaxed than in the city's other high-end restaurants.

    The Food
When Chef Jonathan Landeen added entrees such as ostrich and buffalo to standard victuals such as prime rib and steak, some traditionalists complained that the menu was leaning toward the outlandish. Many of the upscale restaurants in town have since followed Landeen's lead. Jonathan's version of the Cork offers nothing but exciting dishes. The ostrich steak, raised right here in Arizona, is as fine a preparation as you'll find. Seafood, pork and chicken also make appearances. The wine list, like the dinner menu, is unconventional but appealing.
