My friends and I went to this place because it had 3 PERFECT reviews. Well, they must have been submitted by Joe, Jo, and the cook! This place is nothing special. We ordered 2 Cub...

No longer exists 12/26/2006

Sadly, Jo has moved and sold the bar. Work is being done and rumor has it the place will re-open as an Irish pub. more

Eclectic Music with a side of fun 10/19/2005

Everytime I go to Jo and Joes I have the best time and hear some of the best music in the area. Highly recommended even with all the traffic disruptions from the construction on downtown Durhams streets. Get your keister down there! more

WHAT A PLACE 5/20/2005

I just love this place! It's homey and exciting. The people there are open and so funny at times! Some can be snobs but it's always fun when people mess with them. HA HA just kidding. Joanne is great and She needs to find a bigger place. I have worked with Jo and she is such a sweet person. I love the Fries and their Ranch Dressing. The cuban is to die for!!!! YOU ROCK SISTER!!!! Pros: Great people, Food Cons: Parking more

We left before the food arrived 5/6/2005

After the rave reviews we were disappointed. It was poorly lit, cold, and not welcoming. Perhaps if you wanted to sit at the bar, fine, but this is not the place to go for a lunch out downtown. more

Great little bar... 11/1/2004

For a bar, the food at J&J's is very very good. I recommend the fries! Pros: downtown durham, good food, nice people more

Great Burger! 3/24/2004

Joe & Joe's is one of those places where their coupon does the trick. It gets you in the place to try their food and hooks you! I had a cup of gumbo that blew me away and followed it with a really great burger. I miss the New Orleans Cookery that occupied the space years ago, but with Joe & Jo's the void has been eased. I'll be back! more

very good 5/1/2003

Joe and Jo's has become an excellent place to spend time, especially if you are doing something at The Carolina, seeing The Bulls etc. The food is great for the price and they now have a full bar. I am very excited to see this sort of business in downtown Durham. more

GRRRRRRRREAT! 2/10/2003

This place is the place to hang-out in Durham! My husband (Chris) and I have been there a few times and we have had a ball evertime that we went there. The food rocks (Try the Cuban Sandwich) and rest well...I will just put it this way...it is some of the best food that I have ever had. The atmosphere is wonderfull...small and homey, unique, and warm, also the live music is out of this world. This is a place for everyone, black, white, gay straight, everyone mingles with everyone. ROCK ON JO AND JOE! You have made the best hang-out in town! Pros: FOOD, Prices, People Cons: Size more

Cozy joint with new friends 12/24/2002

Joe and Jo become new friends as you frequent their place. The joint is cozy and sweetly decorated. The food is tasty and simple with suttle twists. This establishment believes in the community and shows pieces by local artists. One beer quickly becomes five or six as one loses track of time steeped in conversation and laughs. If only I lived closer!!! Pros: Hospitality, Inexpensive, Atmosphere Cons: Not in Raleigh more

Genuine Neighborhood Pub 12/21/2002

Joe and Jo's is the real thing. Cold beer, friendly barkeeps, easy going place. The food is good for what is really a pub. Joe and Jo (real people) know their regulars, and are friendly to the new folks. The crowd is diverse--old, young, black, white, gay, straight, loud, quiet. All mixed well together. I've caught some of the live music at night and was pleased. A secret reason to go is the ever-changing flavors of homemade ice cream. One of my new favorite places. Pros: atmosphere, price, relaxed Cons: limited menu more

Downtown not uptight 12/21/2002

Food much better than average, a great variety of events, wonderful homemade ice cream and desserts and a truly inclusive and diverse clientelle, the way we like it in Durham! I have had the fries a few times and they were never soggy, so someone had an off day for he above comment. A great place to unwind and feel comfortable. Pros: friendly, diverse, lively Cons: food variety more

Finally a place with a neighborhood feel 12/19/2002

A friend recommended that we meet here for dinner last night and frankly did not expect much. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The menu was not extensive but if the food is good it doesn't have to be. I started with a bowl of their New England Clam Chowder that was bouillon based and very tasty. For the main course I ordered the Steak Frites for $11.95 and received a good quality NY Strip topped with a light pesto, tomato, spice concoction that gave the dead cow even more character. It is great that there is now a place that is affordably priced that is not corporately owned. I plan on going back Pros: atmosphere, reasonably priced, Good Food Cons: Owners a Red Sox fan more

A great start 11/26/2002

Joe & Jo's is a great start to revitalizing the social scene in downtown Durham. While not perfect-- menu is limited and typically greasy-spoon-- Jo and Joe are wonderfully enthusiastic hosts, the ambiance is relaxed and the suds flow freely. A nice casual place to get a drink and have an appetizer, but maybe not your whole meal. Besides, people should go just to get downtown moving again. Pros: ambiance, joe & jo Cons: food is heavy more

A Downtown Oasis!!! 10/17/2002

Joe & Jo's is the perfect downtown pub. The staff is friendly, the food is great and the beer is cold! The eclectic ambiance is warm and inviting. Its a small Cheers without the glitz and pretense. Joe and Jo are great hosts and their pub is a great fit for a downtown Durham renaissance! more

soggy fries 9/15/2002

My friends and I went to this place because it had 3 PERFECT reviews. Well, they must have been submitted by Joe, Jo, and the cook! This place is nothing special. We ordered 2 Cuban's, the burger plate, and fish and chips. The fries we're soggy and moist with all the plates. For $7, I expected more food. None of us finished the food. They had some ""kitchen Problems"" that night so getting served was slow. Jo did apologize and gave us free desert. Outdoor seating limited to 2 plastic tables. Pros: downtown Durham Cons: limited menu, soggy fires, below average value more

Who is more awesome? Jo or Joe? 9/13/2002

Jo and Joe have really created a great place in downtown Durham. With their outdoor seating, traditional pub feel and eclectic artwork inside, it is really a great place to go after work. The food is great too. Some of the best fries I have ever had! Order the 5 Points burger when you are really hungry! Pros: good parking at night, good food, diverse clients Cons: small menu for now more

Beautiful People 8/7/2002

I have only been once since it opened but the service was impecable, the food delicious and the people diverse, interesting and friendly. Go--you will love it, their sandwich, the cuban--best ever-if not a little messy Pros: helping the arts, friendly, downtown more

Good food, good times 7/10/2002

This restaurant is wonderful spot to enjoy lunch in downtown Durham or a relaxing place to have a quick drink after work. The ""signature sandwich"" is the Cuban sandwich and honestly is the best I have ever had. Great service, excellent food, and even local art on display makes Joe & Jo's a genuine Durham gem. Pros: Food, Service Cons: Addictive more
