SCAMMERS 10/29/2010

Tried to buy the latest issue of FM #252, looking specifically for an incentive cover by Stout. Was told they had one in their staten Island store & they could send it to nyc. Great. I called SI store, described cover. they confirmed they had it & would send it to NYC by 10/29 (this is on 10/27) I get to nyc store only to find regular issue in the bag. Obviously someone in store got wind of the potential value of this issue & retained it (or sold it or will sell it later) claimed ignorance of cover difference. This is a store that stocks old Warren FM's & knows full well what their merchandise is worth, or perhaps the only person who knows caught wind of my potential purchase & sabotaged it, since the store is obliged to sell magazines at cover price. more

Great Selection 4/23/2010

I just want to say that whoever said that nothing in life is free is wrong. I've sat for hours and hours on end reading books at this store. I realize that I'll buy a coffee or a danish but they don't make me and this store has prime seating and the place is always so clean and the service is incredible. I would recommend going here just to lose yourself in a good book and a quite atmosphere. I know QUITE, its a word heard very rarely in this city. Go ahead and give it a try you'll love it. Pros: PRIME SPOTS more

Best comic store! 3/15/2010

I heart the huge selection and total lack of attitude. So many events and sales and the staff is super knowledgeable. more

Superheroes Store 12/17/2008

This is the place to go when your inner Batman takes over. The store is jam-packed with really great comic book stuff for the collector as well as the casual fan. I dropped in recently to just browse and ended up walking out with some really terrific Wonder Woman and Spiderman banks. more

Yay TinTin comics 5/2/2006

Yay TinTin comics 5/1/2006

I used to work a block away from the midtown comic store last year & I was sorta dissapointed when they told me they didn't have any Tin Tin Comics. Some of the staffs had no idea who Tin Tin was. Today, when my boyfriend & I were walking to MACY's, I noticed Sally from Nightmare before Christmas in one of the store's window. That's how we discovered Jim Hanley's Universe, Where Art and Literature Meet. They had more than 15 Tin Tin comics. I bought "cigars of pharaoh" & "the castafiore emerald". I know I'm going back to the store soon to buy more. It will be like walking down the memory lane with this new collection because growing up in Kathmandu, Tin Tin is quite famous. Did I mention TinTin actually visits Kathmandu(Nepal) in "TinTin in Tibet" ? Pros: friendly staffs, variety of comics more

Jim Hanley's Universe -- Welcome To A Strange New Place 10/11/2005

Jim Hanley's Universe in New York, NY is close to Madison Square Garden, and from the looks of the place, it definitely caters more towards the tourists that frequent the area. That would explain the lack of back issues which is the first thing I noticed. Fortunately, this store is looking to remedy this situation as they are willing to buy old comic books from those willing to part with their precious collections. A lot of the business stems from the new issues that come into the store every Wednesday, and they do fly off the shelves really fast. The major publishers are always prevalent on the rack as well as teh many trade paperbacks for those wishing to collect an entire story arc in one shot. They also sell a lot of independent comics, manga comics, kiddie comics (Disney and Archie), and international comics (anyone remember Tin Tin?). As with any comic book stores, they also selling a lot of comic book merchandise such as posters, statues, action figures, trading cards, magazin more

great selection of new comics 8/21/2005

These guys are the best! They have all of the newest comics and a lot of the independent rare to find comic book publishers as well. They also carry manga and DVDs of the better known anime out there. The store is large and they they have a so-so inventory of older comics. I'd definitely check them out! They sometimes have special signings as well! more

Jim Hanley's Universe 8/14/2005

Jim Hanley's Universe is a great comic store located down the block from Madison Square Garden. They have hundreds if not thousands of different graphic novels as well as tens of thousands of comic books. THe service could be a little better but this is a tremendous place to shop for comic related material. PROS: great selection CONS: mediocre sales help more

Jim Hanley's Universe Comics 8/3/2005

Jim Hanley's Universe is one of the mega comic stores in Midtown. They have a tremendous selection of in print items, rows of graphic novels, trade paperbacks, art prints and statues. They carry virtually every new comic that comes out and present everything in a clear organized manner. The only drawback is they don't have much of a back issue selcetion in comparison to the other stores in Manhattan. PROS: Good Service, Great Hours Open Late CONS: Could Have More Back Issues more

Over-rated 7/22/2005

While they have the most varied selection in Manhattan, this place isn't as great as it's made out to be. Most of the staff is hired for their looks, not their knowledge of comics, and they do not offer good prices or deals. more

Comics in Midtown 7/14/2005

Close to Madison Square Garden this shop is a comic book superstore. They carry runs of graphic novels and everything new that comes out. They have a nice display of comic statues. The only drawback is they don't really have much in the way of older comics. PROS: Great Selection CONS: Few older items more

Jim Hanley's Universe 7/14/2005

This is a decent, if a bit tourist, comic book shop across from the Empire State Building. As its location indicates, this place draws more toward the geek-oriented tourist crowd. There are a lot of 3-d displays and action figures and trinkets and such, as well as a moderate selection of popular comic lines and graphic novels. There's no overwhelming reason to go here, but if you're in the area and want to pick up an issue of The Green Arrow, this place will do fine. more

Awesome store! 10/24/2003

I love Jim Hanley's because they sell everything from comics to books, statues, toys, and t-shirts. And it's not just mainstream stuff, they carry merchandise from indies and small press. It's a fun place to browse through because I always see stuff there I don't see anywhere else. The staff is knowledgeable and pretty friendly. Wednesday is the best day to shop there as it's new comic day and they often have signings with writers and artists. Definitely recommended to comic fans and pop culture enthusiasts. Pros: Great selection, Open late, Friendly staff Cons: Crowded shelves more

They've got it and more! 8/25/2003

This place was amazing because I'm not really a "comic geek" and I loved it! They had t-shirts, books, magazines, toys, AND comics. Staff was friendly, merchandise was organized, and store was bright and clean. Wished "The Adult" section in back was more clearly marked though -- not good for little kids! Enjoyed it & will recommend it to others! Pros: Good hours, Huge selection, Inviting store Cons: Weird location more

What a comic shop should be 6/13/2003

My personal fav comic store in the city. The store is huge and very well spaced out. You can browse thru their wide selection and not fell like a criminal unlike some places. What makes the place stand out most of all is the friendly staff. For the comic savvy you can enjoy a little friendly dialogue with the staff and for the newbies out there you can get advice on what comics to pick up and not feel like a no nothing. An easy accesible store for comic fans of all ages. Pros: friendly staff, convenient browsing, open late more
