We made reservations for 6 a week beforehand, and received a call the next Tuesday that our reservations had been cancelled because a party of 40 had come in. No real apology or explanation given. Very disappointing. Pros: good food, good ambiance Cons: cancels reservations more

Dined at Jianna last night, and it was perfectly fine. Exceptional appetizers followed by two entrees that were good, but not top-tier good, despite nearly-top-tier prices. The service was pleasant and efficient. The interior was nice, but not cozy enough to be romantic, not stylish enough to be unique. The entire experience reminded me a little of a mini-One Market - a pretty good meal in a nice but boring space. Good for business dinners but not up to snuff for a special occasion. Finally, the wines by the glass were odd selections (Sauvignon Blanc from Chile? Cab from the North Coast?), but they were really quite good - hopefully the staff can sell to the wary. Dined at Jianna Last week and although I've always found it to be a superior restaurant, they surpassed themselves on my latest visit. We shared oysters Jianna (one of my favorites), and they were excellent. The salty crispness of the caviar provides a nice contrast to the soft, rich flavor of the oyster itself. The salad was crisp and fresh and was not drowned in dressing. My entre, (pork tenderloin) was tender, offered interesting and complex flavors and was thoroughly enjoyable. Service was prompt and friendly and the waiter offered very good advice on wine selection. Superb dining experience, maitre'd seated us on walk-in with only 10 minute wait, bartender was knowledgable about wines. Excellent flavor combos crossing some Asian lines -like an unusual miso creme cup to start. Fois gras was well executed. I will definately go again. Pros: great service more

I have been here twice and it was fantastic both times, great food, great service along with a very reasonably priced wine list. Great martini's here too! Highly reccommend for a nice date night or even a small group as well. I'lll be back for sure! more

It isn't often that I am so entranced by the food that I eat. I do not normally eat multiple appetizers, but I couldn't resist. I do not normally finish my companion's food, but I just had to have more. I experienced a moment of pure food ecstacy while savoring the most delectable foie gras I have ever had the pleasure of eating. To add to the experience, the staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience. And how refreshing to have such great French food in North Beach! Great food and dessert. The place was very romantic. I also liked this restaurant because it's not too big. But the table was big and the chair was confortable (you know some San Fran restaurants use tiny little table for 2 people... I hate that.) The restaurant was very dark and the food was terrible - very small portions and not prepared well. With so many other restaurants in San Francisco to choose from this would not be one that I would recommend to ANYONE. Cons: Expensive more

It appears jianna has undergone some changes recently. Yet, they continue to pump out some of the best tasting food in the neighborhood. You can't argue with their value driven menus and their cozy atmosphere. I'll keep going back. Pros: great food, nice ambiance, great location Cons: loud at times, room gets hot more

This place has really gone downhill. This used to be a great place but during my third visit the kitchen was so slow I did not even get my entree. All I wanted was medium rare lamb. How long does that take... Pros: Decent Food Cons: Terrible Service more

Although it is not Italian, Jianna is my favorite restaurant in N. Beach. The food is excellent. Service is good to fair depending on how busy they are. The ambiance is wonderful, a very cool interior. If you don't have reservations, put your name on the list and go next door to Tony Nicks for a cocktail while you wait.
