Jarlings Custard Cup

This is a Champaign-Urbana tradition. My spouses family has been coming here since he was a small boy and I think GrandMa even came here when she was dating Grandpa and they were finishing their Phd's at Univ of IL! Every summer we can't wait to visit Grandma for our after dinner trips over to the Custard Cup. They have the best lemon custard available anywhere! We now drag 3 and 4 generations of family along every visit! This is also a great place to sit and watch the people while eating your cone as you see every age, nationality, etc visiting Jarlings! Only BETTER ice cream shop is at the University of Wisconsin, Madison Dairy Sciences Building run by the U of WI! BEST IN THE US for many different flavors, from their own cows and highest calorie available! more

My friend and I walked over to this yummy custard place for a nice little treat. This is the best place to go for the best custard. Now custard and snowstorms are all I can think about. The snowstorms I would say are by far the best. There are so many choices I have only gotten to experience three of them. I don't think I could try them all there are really just so many. They have sundaes and freezes, and pies and much more as well. My daughter gets a teddy cut, which is custard with teddy grams and a cherry. She loves choosing between their flavors or Chocolate, Strawberry, Lemon, Orange and Vanilla. Great choices I have to say. The Custard is so tasty. I guess the down side, not really just bummer sometimes is they open at 12pm, makes sense but sometimes you just can't wait that long for their yummy treats. The service is great, they have benches inside and outside for you to sit down and enjoy your custard. I am telling everyone I know about this place it is so good. more

Definitely THE place to go for ice cream in CU. They have limited flavors - usually orange, lemon, vanilla, chocolate, but many options if you like toppings. They specialize in cold fudge topping which is just phenomenal. They also make blizzard like treats with various mix-ins. I believe you can also get ice cream cakes from them that I imagine are out of this world. The only negatives are the line that seems to be constant in the summer and the increasing prices. The prices are still pretty fair, but they seem to be increasing every year. Trust me though, IT'S WORTH IT! more

Consistently rated as the best place for ice cream in Champaign-Urbana consistently. I think it's better than any chain you can get. The selection is fantastic! You can get more flavors of snowstorms (like a Blizzard) there than any of the chains combined. We make sure to frequent there as much as possible when it's open. It is closed from November to March. The only drawback is no bathrooms! Beyond that we spend many nights and afternoons there snacking! more

Custard Cup has the best ice cream (besides oberweis) that I have ever tasted. It is super rich and creamy. One of my roomates swore by the vanilla to enjoy the subtle flavor more, but I usually went for their blizzard like item. Believe me, the ice cream used in this product makes a huge difference. My only problem with them is that their "strawberry" flavored custard was really just pink colored and didn't have a distinct strawberry flavor or strawberry chunks in it. Expect to wait in line when you come here. more
