Have been seeking out my new neighborhood salon and stumbled across Janet Rufin's in an Allure mag review. They have great customer service, flexible to get an appointment, and enjoyed my experience. Best Cut Ever! 10/11/2006

I have tried all the ""in"" places, and ended up with the best at Janet Rufin's. \r Janet took the time to LISTEN to me, and I ended up with the perfect haircut and color! \r Now, I am a New Yorker that won't go anywhere else! \r I am recommending her salon to all my friends!!!!!\r Pros: Smaller salon, personal attention Cons: Small salon more

My long and boring hair needed someone like Kevin desperately! He gave me a great haircut, he listened, took his time, and was really cool to chat with. TRUST JANET! 10/4/2006

I had been dedicated to my colorist for the past 2 years...until I started feeling way too blonde! I went to Janet, after being recommended by my friend with GORGEOUS natural color! She, not only, toned me down to perfection, she was patient enough to deal with my uncertainly! I couldn't have given her a worse description of what I wanted, obviously afraid to be ""un-blond-ed"". I have never been complimented so much for my color! (My mom even liked it on a recent visit home!). Janet knows what will look good on youI trust her with my life! GO HERE! 9/20/2006

I feel like i've been to every salon in the city and i've never felt that the money was worth it. I went to Janet Rufin's parlor after it was highly recommended from several of my coworkers. I WILL NOT LET ANYONE ELSE TOUCH MY HAIR! This crew is amazing! They really know their stuff. They are the friendliest, most welcoming group of people I've come across, which is a breath of fresh air in an industry known for pretention. Don't waste your money anywhere else. When you walk out of this salon, you'll feel like a million bucks. If there is a God, he sent Mary to Janet Rufin's! Pros: too many to list... Cons: Nada! more

At Janet Rufin's Parlor, the service was excellent. From the friendly atmosphere, an after work cocktail, personal attention, and a stylist who not only listens to the customers needs but also suggests what works well - I had a great experience. I highly recommend this salon. more

Best color in the city! 9/13/2006

In the three years I have lived in New York I have tried all the ""best"" salons and handed over small fortunes to smug stylists while I walk out crying about the horrible mess they have made of my hair. After a tip from a friend I tried the parlor and have not looked back since. Kevin not only fixed the botched color of my previous stylists but also left me with the most magnificent color job I had forgotten was even possible. On top of it all everyone in this salon is friendly, unpretentious and an absolute pro! Now every time I walk out I feel like a million bucks and almost always have strangers compliment my hair before I can even walk a block. A truly fantastic salon experience! more

Unparalled attention to detail; great short hair cuts. 9/7/2006

I first found Janet decades ago, a very young hairdresser at John Delarian's---and never looked back. I followed her around the city from salon to salon as she grew in strength and experience, and was never disappointed in my style (she even tolerated my punky hair ideas, sweetheart that she is). She has an instinct for color that is a little spooky. You come away with the idea that she knows you better than you know yourself, and boy do you look and feel great.\r Run don't walk to the Parlor, and support a young businesswoman poised to conquer the world with talent, guts and, as always, more than a few laughs. more

Amazing Highlights 8/31/2006

I wanted highlights for the longest time but I was terrified of coloring my hair. Janet did an amazing job -- she took her time and explained my options. In the end the results were exactly what I wanted -- very natural looking highlights. I am am customer for life and recommend her salon to all my friends. Pros: atmosphere, location, no pressure more

Best color correction service in NYC. Stylists flock to Janet Rufin as an expert educator in hair color. 8/28/2006

I came to Janet with my brown hair mistakenly dyed jet black by the a student at the Aveda school. She magically lifted the color back to brown without bleaching the color and turning it I Love Lucy red. Her formula for color remover was time released and specific to my hair needs so that there was never any danger of mistakes. She took me from looking like a Sicillian widow to looking like there was never any mishap in the first place. If you have a hair dye disaster don't trust anybody but Janet Rufin to correct the problem and make your hair look the best it has ever looked. I can't believe I found her before she gets so famous that there will be forever waiting lists to get in. But I found her on City Search so here is my good Karma hint for you. Pros: There is even an apprentice program so you can get well supervised expertise for less $. more

Best Haircut I have ever Had 8/21/2006

I know I know, it's a bold statement. I have very thick hair, somewhere in between wavy and curly. I've always had a problem with haircuts; layers seem like the right thing, but I always end up with a chunck of bushy hair around my face, or hair that sticks up. This is truly the best haircut I have ever had because she cut my hair wet, blew it out, and then cut it again dry. It makes total sense because you are able to see how people's hair falls. I am so going back. The staff is super accomodating and genuinely nice. Mary cut my hair. She's in town for a week once every six weeks. more

Janet is a rockstar. She gave me the right shade of blonde - which is difficult for pale girls like me. I used to go to a very expensive place (with the initials FF) and Janet's work was FAR superior. I just love my color now - she's totally an artist. more

I made my first appointment at Janet Rufin's parlor based on the reviews of citysearch - and I have to say I was not disappointed! Janet is truly an amazing stylist. I have been to many salons in NYC and none have compared to the service provided by Janet. The haircut she gave me was amazing, the best ever! The highlights were exactly what I wanted - very subtle and natural. She took her time to analyze my hair and see what worked best with my face and coloring. The salon itself is bright, beautiful and in an extremely relaxed atmosphere. All of the staff is very accomodating and pleasant. I have been back to Janet 3 times and have left extremely happy each time! I definitely recommend Janet and her Parlor. Pros: Experience, atmosphere Cons: slightly pricey, but well worth it! more

Superb customer service, stylish salon, super-skilled stylist 8/10/2006

It finally happened! I found a great stylist in New York City. When I moved here 4 years ago, I assumed finding a hair salon would be easy-NYC, afterall. But it wasn't until I met Janet and visited her salon that I found what I was looking for: friendly recepionist, enjoyable scheduling process, chic and relaxed atmosphere, and best of all-the genius of Janet. Since she owns her own salon, she must be busy but she made me feel as if I was the only thing on her mind. She listened to my needs and created a haircut that met all my requests. Not only do you leave with a great haircut, being in her chair is a very enjoyable experience. more

A nice little salon 8/2/2006

I have been getting haircut from Masako Suzuki for years. So when she told me she has joined Janet Rufin's parlor, I had to follow her as well. I like how the environment is very relaxing and comfortable. The staffs there are very friendly, and Masako did a great job with my haircut and color as usual. It's more pricey than the other salons I have been to, but it's totally worth it. Pros: Ambience, service Cons: A bit pricey more

Janet Rufin's Parlor is laidback, relaxed and very comfortable. There's no pressure & no blaring music. Going there is the relaxing experience it's meant to be. Eva colored my hair and repaired some serious color damage in the process. She's great!!! I can hardly wait to go back again to see how the next process will turn out. I'm even considering taking my dark auburn hair to blonde. Well, I'll think about it for a little while. more

You should def check out the Janet Rufin Salon! The staff is great and eager to help. This was my first visit and Janet gave me a great hair cut and color treatment. She washed and styled my hair herself. She has lots of ideas and is truly an artist. The salon itself is low-key and a very comfortable environment. Plus, it's in a great part of the city!
