Sad about Bad Pedicure 5/31/2008

Today I waited with my friend for our 4:00 pedicure appointment for 50 minutes until she finally had to leave in order to make a previously scheduled hair appointment at 6:00. We were told that our pedicures would be at least an hour and mine lasted exactly 35 minutes. The technician was extremely rushed and not thorough. There was no foot massage, the water was cold, and she did not put a top coat on my toe nails, leaving them dull and partly chipped an hour later. I had to ask her to remove additional calluses and use lotion after the polish had already been done. In addition, the color choices were almost laughably limited! I wasn't given an opportunity to address these issues because the front desk closed and I was left in a room almost by myself while the workers in the salon went home. I was looking forward to this experience and am shocked that the service certainly did not warrant the price ($67). This was worse than my neighborhood $20 manicure/pedicure combo. more

Not worth it 4/20/2008

I have been getting brazilians for a long time and I myself am licensed to do waxing, I do my own waxing except brazilian I rather someone else because its hard to reach. I had a bad experience here, Brazilians arent pleasant thats obvious but First of all, she refused to wear gloves, which is very unsanitary. can get an infection She supposed to wear gloves for my protection and for her own. And after she pulls the strip, what a professional is supposed to do put her hand there to stop the stinging pain espesially when she is doing a brazilian in such huge pieces so fast. It was very pain ful i was red for days and I do not have sensitive skin. I even asked her to put her hand there and she said no she'll put baby powder, def not a pro. She left hair on me, refused to tweeze or anything. It couldve been alot better for $75 dollars. Pros: fast Cons: unsanitary, too painful and un professional, not worth the price more

Male Brazilian 4/13/2008

Went for my first MALE brazilian at the encouragement of my wife. She loves "the sisters", anyway, WOW! Little pain, had back done also, a little pricey but Jane was a true pro. My wife & i both love our brazilians.Guys you got to try it. anyway Clean & proffesional, LOVE this place. Pros: Best around, Clean,Professional Cons: Pricey more

Best Brazilian Wax 3/16/2008

Alright, well this was my first brazilian wax and it was probably as good as it gets. The girls who worked there were super friendly and really put you at ease. They worked me in after there was a slight mixup with the appointment which was great. I had LuLu who was just amazing. She was quick and very professional. Made me feel very comfortable. If you are going to get this done, do it right and go to J Sisters and ask for LuLu. Pros: Ambience, Service, Clean Cons: None more

Excellent for Brazilian 12/7/2007

My first experience with Brazilian bikini wax was at J-sisters. When they increased their rates, I tried a couple of other places and had TERRIBLE Brazilian wax. That is when I decided that I would stick with J-sisters. I always ask for Teresa, and she is wonderful! The service is excellent and well worth it. I highly recommend this place. I just wish they did something about the elevator. I got stuck twice! For their prices, the place is slightly below-average in terms of "ambience", but clean, which is what really matters. Pros: Excellent brazilian wax Cons: Very expensive, Elevator more

Bad pedicures 10/25/2007

I can't speak for the waxing but I received one of my worst pedicures here today. My pedicurist was really nice but she did not know how to give a proper pedicure. First of all, the tools do not seem to be sanitized (she pulled hers out of what looked like a personal makeup bag) and the way she filed my nails made me afraid that she would snap off the edge of my nails. She also cut too much of my cuticles and prob. would not have stopped if I didn't tell her to. Overall it was a very disappointing experience, esp. considering the prices that they charge. I have def. gotten better pedis at neighborhood joints and will not be going back. Pros: none Cons: bad pedicures more

do not be afraid of the brazilian 8/29/2007

Ok - I was EXTREMELY nervous to have the brazilian. I have been wanting to do it for a while. I called and the same afternoon I had an appt with Joyce (one of the J sisters). Pros: fit me in last minute, made me feel comfortable, thorough if you know what I mean Cons: kind of pricey, but worth it I think more

Not worth the money 8/1/2007

I was getting haircuts and highlights at J. Sisters for a couple of years. Jean Francois and Britt are amazing, and do excellent work. But so do a lot of other stylists and colorists, and for a lot less money. more

Why is this place so good? 7/19/2007

I went for a brazilian last week and while my technician was fast, she broke off so many hairs that now I could go back and be rewaxed. I might as well shaved. Also, she doubled dipped the stick - ew. When I said something she was shocked that was unsanitary. I'm not sure why this place is so highly rated. I've had better at the random corner nail salons. I suppose it all depends on who you get, but for $65 I would hope there would be less of a chance of getting a bad apple. Pros: Easy to get an appointment Cons: Expensive for less than average skill more

The Only Way To go 7/13/2007

I've had a couple of brazilians before at my local nail salons, that were less expensive. They were tragically painful, took 45-60 minutes and the aftermath left me in tears and long pants. I thought I'd have to live au natural and just keep the sides clean. I kept hearing about J Sisters, so as summer is here again, I gave it one last shot. Janea, one of the "J Sisters" is a friendly, but straight forward, no nonsense technician who is not afraid to "get in there" to get every last hair and not rip all of my skin off. Some places ask you to "hold the skin taught" for them, perhaps so your "bits" aren't so exposed, but she only asked me to hold my leg up and relax. It was about as humiliating as a trip to the gyno, until you realize that both your gyno and bikini waxer do this all day and have seen worse than you. Best of all, it was over in 15 minutes! I'm not going to lie, though, it was not painless. Less painful and much quicker, yes. Now it's several days later, & I'm using the cream for ingrown hair. Usually by now I am a bumpy mess, but so far, so smooth! I did notice that the ingredient in their proprietary cream is lidocain, which is the same as in "Bikini Zone" and you can that get anywhere for $5. But since I've used that before, there must be something about the actual waxing that was done much better, even being cleaned up with tweezers. Janea suggested I come every 3 or 4 weeks and when the hair grows back finer it will be less & less painful. We'll see about that, but I am no longer horrified by the prospect of stripping the jungle bare. I really don't think $65 is that much to spend once a month, especially to look this hot! Pros: Quick, efficient, skilled, professional more

The ULTIMATE bikini wax - thank you Theresa! 5/23/2007

Theresa is the most wonderful waxing professional I've encountered in nearly a decade of Brazillian bikini waxing! In addition to the least painful, most thorough waxing job that highly sensitive area has ever had the privilage of receiving, she also had some really helpful tips to prevent ingrown hairs & reduce inflamation/redness after waxing! Her friendly personality makes you feel instantly comfortable. She is also extremely efficient so if you're pressed for time, she's definitely the person for you to see. The salon is not "luxurious" but it is clean, sanitary & the staff is very helpful. more

Good place... lives up to it's reputation 3/19/2007

Since I'm back to working in the city, it was time to find a place in the city to take care of the "landscaping". Pros: Quick and thorough more

You get what you pay for 2/2/2007

After my horrible experience at Elite Day Spa I decided to go to the hailed creme de la creme of brazillian waxers, J Sisters. I decided to go with one of the sister (Joyce) The rooms are much nicer than Elite. Less like a gyn office and more like a spa. Now im not saying its breath taking, but def a lot more relaxing. Joyce was a doll. She spoke to me and had me shift positions to acheive the closest wax possible. Totally professional and thorough. Not NEARLY as painful as Elite. I've become part of the cult. Pros: Extremely Skilled, Friendly, Fast Cons: I cant think of any. more

Best Brazilian Wax 12/1/2006

I have had many bikini waxes prior to going to JSisters, and I finally decided to "take it all off!" I have a straight male friend that goes to JSisters every month for a "male" version of the Brazilan and told me I had to go there. I actually checked this site first and saw that there were mostly very positive reviews. I had my first Brazililan wax done there in August, and had Emily. I have to say that she was very professional and knew exactly what she was doing. The whole thing only took 15 min. -- and of course, it hurt , but it is so quick and she did every to make is as pleasant as possible -- baby powder before the wax and then oil after. She also told me to keep it up and make it easier -- come in every 4 weeks. I have been going now every month--and every time it is easier and easier. I've also started having my eyebrows done there -- with Fatima, and that has also been a great experience. Now my eyebrows really frame my face and I love it! So, if you really want a Brazilian -- JSisters is the place to go -- and I think the price is well worth it for the service they do! Pros: Professional staff more

Best Brazilian... 8/18/2006

Thank God I got my first Brazilian here, or I wouldn't be getting them anymore! I've been to other spas and waxers and this place is by far the best. They are pricey ($65 plus tip) but it's so worth it. I've gotten waxes for a 1/3 of the cost that have lasted 1/3 of the time of a J Sisters wax, so I'm beginning to think this place offers good value for the price, despite what it might initially seem. My favorite waxer left, so now I see Gisele. I've recommended her to friends and family. She's very kind and professional, and non-judgemental, even if you haven't been there in a loooong time, (unlike another salon I've been to). So if you're generally a non-waxer but go every so often for a treat, they don't "tsk-tsk" and make you feel guilty for not going every 6 weeks (although they do recommend it). She makes you feel very comfortable and also does a great wax. One wax here has lasted me all through the summer - she is thorough and hygenic. You should totally go here. Pros: very thorough, polite, professional Cons: seems pricey at first, but initial cost outlay is worth it - they're so good, you don't have to go back as often. more

Worth the Money 8/4/2006

After reading the bad reviews, I feel the need to stick up for the beloved J. Sisters. Though this place is a bustling beehive of activity, it's for good reason. Every wax I've had has been perfect. The technicians are wonderful. Thorough, efficient, understanding, quick, minimal talking, and little to no pain! I would highly recommend J. Sisters. The $65 is well worth it. At the end I hand my money over gladly! And, by the way, it's a good sign when your Brazilian wax is done by actual Brazilian people. Love them. Pros: Efficient. Painless. Cons: Cramped Quarters. more

Traumatic Experience! 8/3/2006

Although I have getting waxes for a while, nothing prepared me for the ridiculously poor and painful service at J Sisters. My waxer refused to listen to me about the results that I wanted, which forced me to leave the room mid-wax. Although the front desk staff was kind enough get me a different technician, the resulting wax is still nothing like what I wanted. I recommend not going here unless you are prepared to take it all off no matter what you want, they are going to force you to do it anyway. more

Worst wax ever! 8/3/2006

I usually get Brazilians in LA but decided to try the J. Sisters when I was in NYC. Major mistake! It was extremely painful and she used her bare fingernails to retrieve in-grown hairs (that can cause infection). The wax used was awful and she used tweezers for quite some time. They were unfriendly, untimely and overpriced. Will never return and have told all my friends. more
