I have given J Cafe several chances and at this point will not go back. The counter people are half asleep, rude, and slow. They never recognize you when you walk through the door...

Not your average sandwich shop 4/16/2010

J Cafe has amazing paninis! The Tillamook is my favorite, and like no other panini I've had. The service is wonderful, and they are flexible with getting you want you want (more of this, less of that). The price is also really great. $7.50 for panini, salad, and chips! Pros: Great food, great price, awesome customer service Cons: Busy at lunch time more

Best sandwiches, great coffee, great folks 4/16/2010

I have been going to the J Cafe since it opened several years ago. I've had some of the best lattes ever there and the staff got so used to seeing me come in that the cook had my sandwich prepped before i got to the counter. Jon is a fantastic guy and always has a minute to chat, ask how your food is, or admire a baby. Pros: fantastic food every time Cons: can be super busy from 11:30 to 1. more

Will not go back 5/15/2009

I have given J Cafe several chances and at this point will not go back. The counter people are half asleep, rude, and slow. They never recognize you when you walk through the door, even though I always order the exact same thing, the exact same way. I should never have to wait 20 minutes for a small coffee with a little room for cream. I gave it a second, third, fourth, 20th chance. The staff seems overwhelmed and needs some lessons in customer appreciation and service. Pros: Good Coffee.... Sometimes Cons: Poor service, long wait times more

Great coffee, sandwiches, and atmosphere! 4/30/2008

This is the perfect place to come for lunch if you're in the Lloyd district and want to avoid eating in the Lloyd center food court. The food is always fresh, and I've never had a bad experience with service. The pressed sandwiches are really really good - the bread is the best part! And it's not a bad deal, either, considering the sandwiches come with a little salad and kettle chips. Beer and wine are available too, although it seems like most people are there for the coffee. Pros: Bread, service, location Cons: Crowded at times more

J Cafe works for me 11/14/2007

J Cafe is my new favorite place to meet in the Lloyd Center. Jonathon, owner and operator, is always ready with a big smile and friendly waitstaff take good care of you even when he's not. The soups are what really brings me back. Always warm and flavorful plus traditional combinations are not ruined by ""new"" additions just for the sake of uniqueness. more

Excellent Quality Food, Coffee and Atmosphere 6/18/2007

This is the best place in downtown Portland for coffee, breakfast, lunch and even dinner. Great value and quality fresh ingredients and very clean. Check out the coffee. These guys really know their coffee. They have wireless internet connectivity, so this makes J Cafe a very convenient place indeed. ""J"" must stand for Jonathan, the owner, who is an extremely nice guy and a great host. This place is the best. Pros: Very convenient location and consistently good Cons: Can sometimes get very busy more

I make almost daily visits 9/27/2006

I work nearby and love my J Cafe lunches. Pros: very tasty and creative sandwiches Cons: sometimes a wait, but its worth it more

Good times 9/11/2006

Great owner, servers, menu selection! 8/3/2006

J Cafe is nestled in the heart of the Lloyd District, right off of the MAX line. The food is classic yet incorporates a sublte, modern flare. Jonathan is always kind and accomodating, remembering every customer that comes into his wonderfully cozy cafe. The best part about the J Cafe is its hours. They are great for a happy hour stop on the way home from work or on your way downtown. I never have a bad meal or a bad time here. Pros: Centrally located, yet not swarming with people. Cons: Limited Parking -- Take the MAX or ride your bike! more
