The Best Chinese Restaurant in Denver 11/15/2010

If you want excellent food, service, and atmosphere, you'll try the Imperial Chinese Restaurant. We are regulars and have never been disappointed. It is a treat to dine there. Our favorites are the Sesame Chicken, Lemon Chicken, Sizzling Black Pepper Steak, Imperial Rolls, and the Hot, Sour & Spicy Soup. We love the hot tea and the lemon slices in the water. Just a first class restaurant!!! more

Good Service; Average Food 8/2/2008

Service was very good. But, the quality of food was average.. Too much gravy in the dishes.. The dishes were swimming in a pool of gravy such as the Hot Pepper Beef. Few pieces of beef in a pool of gravy. Paid about $14 for this. Snow Pea dish also swimming in a pool of gravy. Also, portions were too small.. Paid for a $10-$14 dish and not worth the value. Pros: Good Service Cons: Poor food. Small Portions. High cost. Low value more

Don't let the external decor fool you! 11/27/2007

I used to close to this restaurant for years and never thought to go to it because of the location and outside decor. Now I moved farther away and I am kicking myself. While the building looks ugly and name sounds cheesey, it is the best Chinese I have had in Denver, hands down. The interior is very nice and from what I hear, the kitchen is very clean. The service was fantastic and the food was great from start to finish. If you are looking for something more American-Chinese, the Sesame Pawns were fantastic. The Ginger Ice Cream was refreshing and delicious. Many of the recommendationf from our waiter turned out really weel and the meal was resonably priced for how much food you get. I will definitely be going back there! Pros: Food, atmosphere, service Cons: Ugly on outside, poor location more

Best Chinese since China Town in Chicago! 7/29/2007

The first time we went here was to take my boyfriend's dad who grew up in Chicago and who has been on the search for good Chinese food ever since he moved. Since we recently moved to Denver I relied on the suggestions from co-workers and reviews on Citysearch. The reviews were great but I didn't say anything to the parents - I wanted to see what their opinion was first. Our second visit was to take my parents for my dad's birthday. Pros: Best Chinese food ever! Cons: Pricey but worth it, loud dining room when busy more

The bomb! 5/10/2007

Day in and day out the best Chinese in Denver for over twenty years. Johnny is almost always there at the front desk and is one of the most gracious hosts in town. He trains the staff to perfection and they are efficient, if not terribly friendly but that's ok with me. I'd rather have good service than a new best friend. All of the food is great but standouts are Imperial Rolls, the best Sesame Chicken in town, the firecracker prawns, real Peking duck, whole steamed sea bass and great non-greasy fried rice. All served in a restful, sophisticated setting (no cheap faux-Chinese kitsch). There's a reason this place has been around, and so well reviewed, for all these years. Pros: the food and service are tops Cons: it's certainly not the cheapest Chinese in town but worth the extra $$ more

One of the best 12/21/2006

When my wife and I want Chinese, Imperial is invariably our first or second choice. It's approximately a 30 minute drive from my house, but having tried at least 10-15 Chinese restaurants around the city, we have come to discover what we like. The wait staff is excellent and the food has always been wonderful (Yue Shang Lamb is a favorite). The restaurant is nationally rated (definitely a plus) by Zagat. For us it is not only where we fulfill our own cravings for Chinese food, but where we take visiting family and friends. It is a restaurant we trust will satisfy anyone who enjoys Chinese cuisine. Pros: Consistently great Chinese cuisine Cons: Price, but worth it more

Do not go! 3/7/2006

I thought this would be a wonderful restaurant, what with all of its good reviews. It was terrible - the moo shu was mediocre and the chow fun noodles were an amphorous mass of overcooked noodle glob with some sauce on top! The coconut shrimp were tasty, but not enough to make up for the horrendous lack of customer service. The manager was as non-plussed as one could be when I told him how horrible the noodles were. Save your money, stay away from this restaurant. Cons: Bad customer service, Expensive, Bad food more

KIDS NOT WELCOME - TERRIBLE SERVICE! 1/20/2006

We did love out food, but the service was TERRRIBLE. The waiter was snide, sarcastic and rude. THEY DONT HAVE HIGHCHAIRS so we were told to HOLD our daughter (how am i suppose to eat my $20 plate of food while HOLDING a toddler?) The food was slow, any drink from the bar was twice as slow. BEWARE! also VERY PRICEY for portion size, even though the food is good. all around THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE HAD IN A RESTAURANT in the 4 yrs i have been dining with children Pros: good food, take reservations Cons: terrible service, pricey, RUDE more

everyone has a favorite dish here 3/25/2004

Mine is the sea bass with black bean sauce; but I've never had anything that wasn't top notch! I'm pretty picky about where I eat Chinese, and this place is it. I will say I've gotten in the habit of going early to avoid what can be a lengthy wait. Pros: great good, excellent wait staff Cons: , so go early more

mmm... Dim Sum! 2/5/2003

The best Dim Sum around. My friends and I make it a monthly event to go to King's Land and relish the steamy goodness! Conveniently located near enough Asian markets to quench your ""can I try to make it at home"" needs. Spacious dining area, but you may still have a wait. Attentive service and can't-beat-it prices. Pros: inexpensive, plenty of parking, good for groups Cons: decor is so-so more

The Best 11/9/2002

I love this place; the food is terrific. I'd recomend the Fried Shrimp Balls, and the stuff pork croissants. more

it's not that good 11/8/2002

We haven't cared for the food at the Imperial at all. Never!! We don't understand why, because the same owners operate The Palace Chinese Restaurant on East Evans. The food at The Palace is terrific. Go there instead!! more

superb dining 10/24/2002

imperial is the best chinese restaurant i have ever had the pleasure of dining at. the food and,the service was amazing.the atmosphere was relaxing, and comfortable. the imperial,is a yearly anniversary tradition for my family.and we look forward to our wonderful expierence every year. Pros: great food, great sevice, beautiful deco Cons: expensive more

Now THIS is Chinese! 10/17/2002

If you only go to one Chinese restaurant, this should be it! I actually hold out on eating Chinese until I can go to Imperial. Everything else pales in comparison. The owner is from Taiwan, how much more authentic can you get?!? Pros: Steamed Dumplings, Any fish dish, Ample Parking Cons: No outdoor seating more

Great Duck! 10/16/2002

One of my favorite places to go when I leave Vail for a day in Denver. Ken and the other managers are always friendly! Delicious food that always seems a cut above most chinese restaurants. Sesame chicken and the duck with bok choy and vegtables are my favorites! Pros: ambience, room for large groups, lunch specials more

Only place for steamed fish 9/12/2002

Each visit is always a treat. Have never had a bad experience. My only ""con"" sometimes is the wait. That's the price for a good restraurant. Try the steamed fish. Be sure it's a fresh catch. Cons: long wait times more

Amazing Sesame Chicken 7/27/2002

The best Sesame Chicken in the universe. Tops LA, SF, and Chicago China towns best. The atmosphere is tops for Chinese in town. The restuarant is no smoking which I appreciate, and the Sesame Chicken is flat out incredible, every single time. The waits can be LONG on weekends though. So plan for at LEAST an hour wait. Pros: Sesame Chicken, Inexpensive, Hip Cons: wait times, Parking woes more
