Il Fornio is one of the better chains in my opinion. The food is reasonable, the menu is varied, and the breads are excellent. I usually order a salad or pasta dish. The Santa Monica restaurant is located right across from the Ocean - it's a prime location - and a great place to meet someone and temporarily get away from the noise and craziness of the area. After fortifying yourself with a good sandwich made with fresh ingredients and a glass of wine, you'll be ready to make that walk down Third Street Promenade.
