lives up to the hype 8/8/2007

for a romantic dinner or a family brunch. can't go wrong with this place. impeccable service. great ambiance. and fresh, quality ingredients. Pros: service, food and ambiance Cons: a little pricey more

Food sucked, service sucked... 7/23/2007

I have never written a review (good or bad), but the experience at this place was so bad that I felt I had to share. \r I took my husband there to celebrate his birthday and I expected this beautiful place, but instead it looked like a backyard with tinkle lights. The service was slow and our waiter spent the entire time talking with the guest at another table. The food was disgusting! I did not expect this from a ""Beverly Hills"" restaurant, not to mention from ""the most romantic spot in LA"". It is not the most romantic spot at all. I'm not sure if they had Playboy night or what, but skimpy chicks kept walking in. Before you get excited, these were not attractive chicks. I was seriously crying the entire time, I could not believe my husband's birthday dinner could be so bad. Oh, it got worse. When I called to make the reservation, they suggested I order the heart-shaped chocolate cake for $18 as a surprise, so I did. You would expect them to bring it out as soon as we were done with dinner, but instead the waiter brings out the dessert menu! WTF - why would I want to see the menu if I already ordered something in advance. I was so upset because this was supposed to be a surprise. Needless to say, this was the worst experience and i would not recommend it to anyone. Don't buy into the hype - it is not the most romantic spot nor is the food any good. more

AN UNFORGETABLE NIGHT 7/18/2007

If you love Italian food and Italians, ""the real ones"" you must try this restaurant. We arrived punctually on a Friday night. The place was packed, but we were seated immediately. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. Leonardo, this charming Italian Manager welcomes us with the wonderful Italian words of Ciao bella and Bonassera, he sat us in the front garden, which looks like a fairy-tale. When I made the reservation I said to the lady that it was a special occasion, but wow. Our table was covered with red rose petals and candles, I was thrilled. We had a very nice Italian server, Jonny, who was wonderful. They have an incredibly interesting Italian wine selection, we had the best Italian chardonnay I ever had, Jermann Dreams and a wonderful wine from Sardinia suggested by our waiter. And the food..aaah...I could eat there every night! I feel like I should not write this review, otherwise It will be impossible to get a table there, but they truly deserve it. From when you step in with the warm welcome by the Manager, which by the way was always checking the tables, and in the end made it even more special by offering us a home made dessert and Lemoncello drinks! I mean, it could not have been better--we had a nice waiter, everything was just perfect and that night I felt very special?see you soon IL CIELO and GRAZI. Pros: Food, Service, special costumer care Cons: Busy valet, park yourself more

Great food, slow service 6/26/2007

I went here for lunch and enjoyed the atmosphere and food, but the service was ridiculously slow. Make sure you have plenty of time to spare... Pros: Food Cons: Service more

Bad food, terrible service, but expensive 5/26/2007

Tasting menu took 3.5 hours to serve; was almost inedible; appeared to be the worst of the food the chef could prepare; uncomfortable seats; waiter poured new wine into half filled glasses of old wine; cold and someone needs to ask them to clean the bird ____ off the plastic roof. Romantic---hard to know--But definitely pricey Pros: Parking Cons: Food, service, ambiance more

Beautiful ambiance, superb service 5/10/2007

We drove by this restaurant when my date asked me to turn around, it's so cozy and hidden that I was surprised that he caught it. He took me to celebrate my mother's day and it couldn't have been better. We had no reservations but they sat us right away in a cozy corner in the patio. Everyone was so friendly and warm, they made me feel like I was visiting old friends. The waiters were excellent, warm and attentive. The food was heavenly, scrumptious and dripping with flavor. I commend the chef for his artful cooking. They gave us plenty of time to talk and eat and yet came and refilled our drinks and checked on us without making us feel pressured. I loved the relaxed atmosphere, it was romantic and unpretentious. They let the food and service speak for itself. We went on a Wed which I just found out they close at 10 but we didn't leave until past 11 and they in no way made us feel like they were closing. I loved it, I applaud a restaurant in LA that can be romantic and simple at the same time. Pros: Food, Service, Romantic, Unpretentious, Took us without a reservation more

beautiful romantic dining 5/7/2007

My valentines date took me here for dinner once? and I was not disappointed. The restaurant is held in what looks like a charming little house? we dined outside in the front patio, which was very private and romantic. The waiters seemed authentically Italian with their turned-up moustaches and their accents. They were extremely friendly and courteous, and I felt like there were 3 waiters serving one table. I can?t remember the food too well (it?s been a few years), but I remembered that my date had to put in a couple of big bills for dinner? Though I would highly recommend it for romantic dates, I don?t think it would be appropriate for other types of outings (friends and family). Pros: great ambience, very intimate Cons: expensive more

Terrible service and tasteless food 3/26/2007

I was very excited to go and very disappointed by the end. My boyfriend asked for no mushrooms and out the food came with mushrooms. So it had to be re cooked so we didn't get to eat together. The manager on duty made us feel like it as our fault even though he clealy told the waiter no mushrooms. At a high end restaurant like that there should be no reason for mistakes esp when there is only 10 main courses anyway. My food was one of the specials rice with saffron and sea food. It was so tasteless and I only ate half. No one came to check on how the meal was. We hadn't even finished eating when they took the plates away and told us about desert. At this point we just wanted to leave and asked for the bill. It was over priced and not worth saying anything good about. The waiters and management need a lesson in how to treat their patrons with politeness and courtesy as we didn't recieve any. Pros: It is pretty Cons: Over priced/ bad service and rude employees more

Par excellence alfresco dining with superlative staff and scrumptious Northern Italian food 1/25/2007

Wow! Are my girlfriends and I ever glad we came here in spite of the negative reviews I read on Il Cielo! I came here from San Juan Capistrano with my two friends for their birthdays at 11:30 AM. We've been celebrating birthdays together for 50 years at many and varied locations in Southern California, and I must say this topped everything. EVERYONE, from the valet who parked our car, to the busboy, to Ivan our wonderfully charming and helpful waiter, Massimo the General Manager, and finally the owner (who I searched for and found in his office) were extremely accommodating and pleasant. The patio was the most charming we've seen in the greater LA area, full of gorgeous blooming hydrangeas, climbing vines, and other lovelies. It wasn't cold, even in the chilly winter weather we've had lately. They carried in our many many birthday gifts and let us spread out into the other table space next to us. Not only that, they allowed us to stay for over 3 and a half hours, never pestering us to leave or acting nervous that we wanted to stay. Now! to the food: I can't believe that anyone wouldn't be totally delighted in whatever they happened to choose from the varied menu. I had salmon, Jan had the squash ravioli, and Sandra had the clam linguini. All three sets of tastebuds were standing up and shouting hooray at the exquisite sensory pleasures. For dessert I had the sorbet and gelato, and my friends shared the beauteously special petite chocolate cake, served on a large silver platter which was decorated with molten chocolate in the spirit of the happy occasion--their birthdays. We couldn't be more delighted with our afternoon, and I respectfully submit this review from the 3 of us. Kudos to Il Cielo, Ivan, the rest of the staff, and the management. We shall return. Pros: Ambience, food, ease of parking, service more

AVOID this OVERPRICED and OVERHYPED place at all costs 11/15/2006

OVERPRICED,OVERHYPED, TUDE WAIT STAFF and HOSTS/ESSES where do I stop? or start. Gave this place two tries over the past year and each time could not believe the service that was rendered/not rendered. We were not seated very quickly and put in a spot that had a table that leaned at an awkward angle so our plates kept sliding. Wish i would have tried somewhere else to go for an anniversary meal. Will definitely not be returning due to poorly prepared food, rude service and terrible parking. How can people keep rating this place as a GREAt romantic spot. In a word DON'T GO save your MONEY Pros: NOTHing except when it was time to leave Cons: Everything more

Overpriced, Rude Waiters & Staff and NOT the most romantic restaurant in LA! 11/10/2006

After hearing great things about Il Cielo I suggested it as a place to celebrate my friend's birthday dinner. Boy were we disappointed!! There was a speaker right next to our table blaring techno and even though we kept asking for them to turn down the volume somehow it would get turned back up again. The waiter was rude and pompous. The food was not even that great compared to other less expensive places. They charged us a ridiculous $25 corkage fee to open our own wine. They were rude when they brought out the wrong dish and we asked to get the one we really ordered. They even charged us for both plates!! They were rude when we said we didn't want desert and proceeded to bring a desert anyways and charged us $15 for it! I would NEVER return to this place, regardless of what anyone else says, don't go here! There are far better Italian places to eat in this city with staff that will not be snotty!! more

Starry Starry Night 11/3/2006

Come here mostly for the atmosphere. You are seated under a beautiful garden lit canopy - very romantic setting. Order wine and dessert. The sea bass filet is cut by the table, but beware of fish bones, i myself slightly choked on one - yes, making my romantic date a bit of a disaster. nevertheless i recommend this place, if only for a photo opportunity.\r Pros: Twinkling Lights Cons: Expensive more

Romantic, great for special occasions, food was OK 10/30/2006

This is a great place for a romantic dinner, but the food was OK. The staff was friendly, but they messed up our order. I recommend making reservations, but I don't think that I will be coming back. Pros: Romantic, Parking Cons: Service, FOOD, Expensive more

Romantic Night 9/24/2006

This place is wonderful, from the twinkling lights to the delicious food, this place is fantastic. We wanted a romantic evening and this is exactly what Il Cielo provided. Excellent service in a wonderful atmostphere! more

GEORGE...WITH A ""G"" 8/20/2006

O.K....FIRST OF ALL! I came here to enjoy my anniverasry with my girl because she has always wanted to come here. Unfortunately, when we came in to sit down, I kinda got the feeling that we were not welcome here. The service at the next table was way faster and more pleasant. I felt like I was ready to go. Until George began waiting our table. It was like a complete 180. He made sure everything was on time, and served us like a comedian would time his punchline to the audience!Perfectly! I swear if it were not for George I would have left this place in 10 minutes. I'm also an employee of Citysearch, so you know I look out for everything! But that day...George....with a ""G""...saved our evening!\r Thanks George!!\r They should give you a huge raise!!!! Pros: The waiter named George. Cons: Unparrallel treatment. more

Overpriced, Undercooked, Overrated, Unromantic 7/26/2006

Bring your High-School prom date here with the romantic Christmas-tree lighting and expensive menu, but if you want delicious food. . . stay away. Pros: Great area, seems secluded and secretive Cons: Overpriced, boring and poorly cooked food more

Unbelievable! 7/23/2006

My husband and I got married here last year. It was unbelievable! We were so incredibly happy with the service and food. If you are looking for a romantic and intimate wedding, this is the place. The food was fabulous - cocktails (peach bellinis and champagne) prior to the ceremony, scrumptous appetizers after the ceremony, and an amazing dinner! I have had so many compliments about the food. The best food at a wedding - bar none! All my guests were stuffed! The chocolate cake with rasberries and white frosting was fresh and utterly delicious. Christine the coordinator is amazing! I believe that she left - which is a total shame. The service is impeccable. These servers were so attentive and accomodating. They treated everyone first class. You also have to experience the Il Cielo Charriot. Being serenaded and walked over to the Four Seasons Hotel with candles was a great way to end the evening (while guests sip on cappachinos and munch on biscottis)! I thought it would be cheezy, but I am so glad that Christine talked me into it. Il Cielo fulfilled my expectations (over and beyond). Worth every penny!! Pros: Incredibly romantic, unbelievable food, outstanding service Cons: Wedding coordinator Christine is gone more

Beautiful ambiance and wonderful, attentive service plus delicious food 6/24/2006

From the moment I left my car and was helped up the curb by the valet to entering the restaurant and being asked if I needed help up the two steps by the hostess to being seated by the waiter for a private birthday luncheon for 30, everything was excellent. The help was very attentive; especially since the lady to my right was getting hot flashes and the waiter opened the air conditioning vent near us to direct the cool air at her. Presentation may be everything but so is the taste of good food. We were served very beautiful and tasty salads, our choice of salmon or chicken breast which was actually too much food and the most delicious flourless chocolate cake decorated with what looked like real flowers. There were rose petals everywhere and the odor from the flowers was as delicious as the food. Obviously, from reading the previous critiques, they have gotten their act together as far as ambiance, food and service go. I went on line to look at their menu and their prices and they are not rediculously high for what you get. It is indeed a special occasion restaurant and I am combing my calendar looking for the next special occasion so that I can return. My only gripe was that when they returned my car, the valet had parked it under a tree full of purple berries and I had to rush to a car wash so that the berries wouldn't stain the paint. Pros: great food, service and ambiance Cons: don't let the valet park your car under a purple berry tree more

EXCELLENT SERVICE 4/18/2006

Recently my husband took me to Il Ciello and it was fantastic! It was our anniversary and a rare time where we could enjoy dinner without the kids. They treated us like royalty. The food was great and we were even given a wonderful tour of the place when we asked if they had any space for private parties. It is a bit on the pricy side but what isn't these days. Pros: service, atmosphere more
