At such cheap prices, a wider variety, and under the charming canopy along Euclid, Hummingbird Cafe should get the business Intermezzo gets. The workers are pleasant and less hostile, bolstered by an over-the-counter-market setting, as opposed to Intermezzo's customer-conveyor-belt-line. They offer healthy sandwiches and smoothies, along with aram sandwiches and more Mediterranean/Middle Eastern fare. Beware of the whole wheat sandwiches, however, as they tend to rely on simple store-bought sliced bread, and leave you feeling a bit short-changed. I highly recommend the aram sandwiches for their cheap cost, huge size, and revelatory flavor. And should indecision plague you (like me), the workers are more than patient and understanding. On the whole, Hummingbird Cafe is one of the few truly worth-while sandwich-to-go places in Berkeley (next to A.G. Ferrari's and Coffee Source).
Pros: helpful, wide variety, nice locale
Cons: no seating
