Wow. After getting of the phone with Jennifer from Houston Garden Centers (713 218-0860) and reading other reviews like mine, I felt I must write one.

Tick infested Christmas tree 12/30/2010

We purchased a Christmas Tree from the Katy location of the Houston Garden Center. A few weeks later there were ticks crawling off of the tree and into my dining room and entry way. Apparently ticks hatch after being in a warm area (a heated house) after a few weeks and spread out in search of food. I never thought to inspect our tree before we purchased it because the garden center says that they inspect them. Regardless, our tree was infested with ticks so we had to remove it immediately (a week before christmas) and spend hours cleaning up the hundreds of ticks in my carpet! We went back to the location to give them their tree back and the manager told us to call Matt Hooper (the owner) and discuss it with him. I called him > 15 times over a 2 week period and could never get him on the phone nor did I receive a call back. I was rudely informed that he was the only person I could talk to and that there was nothing else they could do. The receptionist hung up on us 4 times and told us that she ""didn't have time to deal with this"". THAT'S THEIR JOB!! In short, they have NO customer service at all, will hang up on you, and not return your phone calls. I will never shop here again and I would caution anyone who does to double check your purchase for critters as you will not receive a refund or get anyone on the phone to help you. more

They need new management 3/6/2007

I have been in Houston 4 years and never bought plants. When it came time to get some for my balcony I naturally went to the place you see all over town; HOUSTON GARDEN CENTERS. I am bad with plants but wanted to get a few for my balcony with Spring almost here. I asked the manager if he could show me a few plants that would work for me, that would fit my sunlight situation and would be easy to maintain. He then had some guy who does not speak English assist me and of course this guy could not understand anything I said. So I went back to the manager, who was completely disinterested in helping me. I tried to tell him my sunlight situation and budget. He didn't really listen. Showed me two trees in the $60-100 range never even asking what kind of plants I might want or what my budget was (I didn't want trees, I wanted plants and herbs). The 3rd time I was speaking to the manager and he showed he wasn't interested I walked off and left. I will not go back to a place that treats its customers this way, especially a new customer. I can get plants just as easily at Lowe's, Home Depot, Wal-Mart or many other locations around Houston. I would recommend you do the same. more
