i love hotcakes 3/6/2009

I am in the restaurant business and Hotcakes is one of my favorite places to eat. I don't think that they are that overpriced, all of they're ingredients are fresh, and how can you complain about that? Food cost in the restaurant industry in the past year have nearly doubled, so of course that will be reflected in the prices, but that is going on at all the restaurants in town. I eat here at least once a week, if not more, and on the few occasions that i had an unpleasant meal, i notified the management, all of whom are very nice, and they would always replace my entire meal and then some. This is one of the most accomodating places in town, and they know they're stuff. If anybody has ever had a bad experience, tell the management, they always set things right! more

Horrible Food Served with a Snooty Attitude 7/23/2007

I went there last week to purchase a wedding cake. I spoke with a lady who was quite nice. She gave me two samples of their cakes, a Peach Melba yellow cake and a Black Forrest chocolate cake. The peach cake was pretty much tasteless and the Black Forrest cake had cherries that were gray! They were both horrible. If you wanted to try any other flavors you had to purchase a cake in that flavor for $13. I like their design so when I called in the next day to order a cake I talked with the baker. At other cake tastings I had them put four different fillings in the four quadrants of the cake so I could taste more than one type of filling. I asked for this and got a very haughty "We don't do that here, that is too much work". They did concede to give me a sample of the fillings on the side. I asked for raspberry mouse, dark chocolate, banana rum and pineapple. They could do the raspberry because it is one of their generic fillings but they wouldn't do a dark chocolate, it had to be a chocolate sour cream ganache (sp?) which she said wouldn't be good because it was so heavy. She initially didn't want to do it so I had to convince her to. She also wouldn't do the banana rum, it had to be banana with brown sugar whipped cream which also sounds horrible. I can make a banana rum icing and I told her exactly how to but she wouldn't do it that way. The filling that made me the angriest was the pineapple filling. She absolutely refused to even try that one! She said very snottily that they "Only use Fresh Pineapple which will curdle the whipped cream". I asked if they could use canned pineapple and use buttercream instead but she refused! They only use "fresh" ingredients. They made me so angry. I am the one that is paying an obscene amount of money for a wedding cake (close to $400!). I'm giving them business but they did nothing but talk down to me the entire time. If they don't start treating their customers better soon they won't have any customers. I won't be giving them my business and I suggest you don't give them yours either. If you are looking for a wedding cake (or any cake really). I suggest going to Angel Cakes up north on 29 (across from the Sheetz). They are the nicest people in the world and really make you feel welcome. Their cakes and cookies are delicious and the baker can decorate the heck out of a cake. Their stuff is so beautiful. Hot Cakes is a very pretentious place. The clientele is ritzy, the pastas are fancy and the desserts are classy. There's no chocolate eclairs here. Instead, all of the desserts are tarts and muffins. That's great for some people, but I'm not a huge fan. Their pumpkin muffins are actually quite good, and you can get them for 1/2 off after 7:30 pm. The rest of their fare is quite typical including fruit salads, pasta salads, simple sandwiches etc. I'm not sure how many times people can go here when they're paying $5 for a pb&j or $9 for a half pound of chicken salad. more
