Great service, good value 7/26/2009

Had brunch here on a Saturday and everything about the experience was pleasant. Seated almost immediately; service delivered promptly and with a smile. When questioned about menu options, server willingly provided recommendations and checked back after the food was served to see if we were happy with the recommendation. \r \r On this occasion, had great coffee and corned beef hash (lots of onions, mushrooms, and cheese in their version). Especially love their salads, corn bread, fried green beans and sweet potatoes, but alas, no room for everything in one meal!\r \r Between the friendly/professional service and good food, I find it a great value for the money. Pros: Service, food more

Rip off Alert!!!!!!!!! BEWARE! 10/5/2008

I agree with the last review. This place is overpriced. It wasn't too crowded when we stopped over, early on a Saturday morning. The toppings for the food tasted funny to me and my company. I asked the waitress if she could bring out something else....she offered several things, started rattling them off. I said sure, whatever could make this better. When I got my bill, I was charged for the additional items without ever being notified. What terrible management! What terrible service to not mention that management is that stingy! To top it off, my 'large' orange juice, which of course was about 10 ounces, was $3.95. $3.95!!!! That is outrageous, even with today's economy the way it is! I could have bought a gallon for the same price, and no, it wasn't even that good! This place is such a rip off, I will tell everyone to NEVER go there. I had been there once before, for lunch, and it was just mediocre. I hope they close down because a place should not serve poor quality food and charge outrageously for it. Go to Keys or Copper Dome nearby instead if you want a good breakfast meal. Pros: Location Cons: Expensive, poor quality, rip off, over charged more

Poorly prepared food, apathetic management. 11/28/2007

Im a fan of other BluePlate restuarants, but Highland falls behind the standards of their other locations like Longfellow of Groveland.\r \r Stay away from highland *if they are busy*. The kitchen rushes food out and it is consistently poorly prepared. I spent 12 years growing up in a family restaurant and I can tell when the kitchen is the problem. Mind you, servers are nice and efficient at Highland, its the food that you have to watch out for.\r \r Its also pretty pricey for what you get--which would be fine IF its good.\r \r I experienced another lousy meal there recently and emailed the manager with a detailed description of what went wrong.\r \r She didn't even bother to respond--which tells me she thinks they are busy enough that she doesn't have to care.\r \r Eventually that attitude will undo the restaurant--and certainly such sloppy food will do so. Pros: Nice location and servers Cons: Unreliable food, bad management more

Unique meals at an affordable price. 5/4/2007

We love this place!\r Every other week my neighbor and I walk down for tea and breakfast. We have always had fantastic service, and the food is great.\r \r For evenings with the family it's so nice to have a local place that is walking distance. They do make things just a bit different, which means that everything doesn't taste mass produced. Individual creations are the rule not the exception. Plus they do have things that a vegetarian can enjoy. Pros: Nice Staff, Good Food. more

You gotta try the Sweet Potatoe Fries! 8/15/2006

This place is so great, the staff is always chipper and they have half price bottles of wine on Tuesday. Me an the boy have yet to have a bad meal there. The breakfasts are great, the Elvis Burger rocks my world and the Sweet Potato fries are my most favorite ever. Check this place out, look for me an the boy drinking wine on Tuesdays ; ) Pros: Great value, food always tastes great and nice staff. more

We got the peirogies as an appetizer and they were great. For lunch I got the black bean flaffel sandwhich and my boyfriend got Pete's burger. I suggest not to get either of these. The bread of both of the sandwhiches were soggy throughout, and the fries are not really fries more like warm potato wedges. The black bean flaffel was nothing like real fallafel, under seasoned, and gross-looking. The sandwhich was horrible and so was his burger. I suggest if you go to get breakfast, and that is all. Pros: atmosphere, prices Cons: food, crowds more

Neat place, great food 1/27/2005

Awesome food. Not like any diner I've ever been too. Many good vigetarian options. Highly recommend the Banana Pancakes, the sweet potato fries, the Green bean appitizer, and the black bean falafel (sp?). Good beer taps too, fir a diner. Great with kids. more

Not what it used to be 6/13/2004

They updated the place a couple years ago, not sure if they had new owners or what, but it's never been the same since. Pretty good food, interestingly unassuming and old trendy at the same time. Try the Tom and Bennie for brunch. Pros: ok food, nice neighborhood Cons: , can get busy more

Yeah OK.... 5/19/2004

The Highland Grill is good. Good food, good menu selection. But that is about it. It is NOT great, that is for sure. And their prices are downright bad. Too expensive for food not worth it. Go if you will, but be prepared to pay way too much! more

Try the sweet potato fries 10/23/2003

The Highland Grill is a nice stand-by restaurant for upscale diner food. The things I really like on the menu are the sweet potato fries with a fantastic spicy peanut dipping sauce, the steak murphy sandwich, the steak murphy salad, and the spinach salad. The salads are nice fresh baby field greens. If you're in the neighborhood, stop by. A real family joint, lots of kids and bright colors inside. Friendly wait staff (all cute girls). Pros: kids, good diner food Cons: kids more

Gourmet Food w/retro diner atmosphere 1/3/2003

This establishment like this fits in well in Highland Park Village. The homemade soups are fantastic - a must before the meal. On the menu, try the steak salad murphy - I prefer it med. rare. There's a reasonable selection of beers and wine to compliment most picks on the menu. Best of all the menu is very reasonalby priced - dinner for 2 will be around $30 including a couple of drinks! Beware: the seating is somewhat tight and the noise level can get loud. Pros: Gourmet, Value Cons: Loud more
