hidden bay 5/1/2011

Have been to the Hidden Bay many times and each time I'm more disappointed than the last. This morning when we arrived there were a few people on the deck and in side the restaurant. We waited for 1 1/2 hours for our food which seems completely excessive given the number of people. In addition, the coffee was like water and during the 1 1/2 wait, not once did anyone stop by to ask how we are doing or to tell us why the long wait. I feel when you are in the restaurant business you should think of it as ""hosting"" the people who come to spend money and time. Lastly, when you do wait for 1 1/2 hours for your breakfast, it would be helpful if it was hot. The pancake was cold, the toast cold but happily so was the fruit. more

best burgers in town 2/22/2011

Hidden Bay Cafe has the best burgers in town .They grill your food right outside when you order .I've been going there for years and it's my favorite place to go !!! They have a full Liquor license so you can sit out overlooking the Tomahawk Marina and sip cocktails and watch the boats go by on the Columbia ..They have excepted debit and credit cards now for a couple of years .They serve huge steaks with all the trimmings (even comes with a wonderful desert) on Friday nights and great Breakfast's on the weekends year around !!! more

I have not yet been to Hidden Bay, but I met the owners last night and I read some of the other reviews. I absolutely know, without a doubt, that I will love Hidden Bay. I'd rather keep it secret; more room for me?. Thanks M & K for letting me know about your place. Can't wait to visit. nanC more

Best Hangover Breakfast 1/20/2010

Sit down to breakfast and no menus needed. They just bring you a variety of wonderful morning comfort food. Pros: Saturday and Sunday Breakfast Cons: Small but still wonderful more

LOVED LOVED LOVED Hidden Bay 6/3/2009

We stumbled upon the Hidden Bay accidentally - it is a little low key cafe on a marina - wonderful little deck - great beer selection you can pick out of the cooler case yourself and when you order they cook your food right out on the grill on the deck outside. Great hamburgers, salmon burgers, taco salad, ect.. The owners could not have been nicer - we stopped to have a beer and look at the boats and ended up staying for hours. Had food and stayed late - past closing really, but the owners were wonderful. Loved the dog Molly too. If this cafe existed near me at home in Ny - We would never leave. Pros: great little secret hideaway, great low key food, great view Cons: not a one more

Best burgers & customer service around 9/28/2008

This cute little cafe is awesome! Unbelievable the quality of food that they pump out of this place! I love to go hang out and pretend I am on vacation while sitting on the deck overlooking the columbia river and the marina. It's fun to sit out there and listen to the music, smell the food cooking, talk to the amazingly friendly staff and eat the best burgers I have had in a long time. You are also not limited to the menu. If you like BLT's, grilled cheese, whatever, they will do just about any variation of what's on the menu even if it's not on there. Just ask. My kids love to come down there and run around and they get so spoiled by some of the gals that work there. They always want to go the Hidden Bay Cafe. Check out the Friday night dinners. Talk about a deal!! They do steaks or bbq ribs on alternating Fridays. Huge huge portions. You get steak/ribs, mashed potatoes, veggies, salad, garlic bread & (yes I said and) a desert! The breakfast is unbelievable too. HUGE for a great price! They are also open year round. more

You have to try this place out.. 9/8/2008

The Hidden Bay Cafe is like no other experience. I live in Southern California and find myself anticipating the next trip to the Northwest so I can have a few beers while eating one of there incredible bacon cheese burgers. Whenever anyone I know is planning a trip to Portland, i tell them that they HAVE to make to the Hidden Bay Cafe. If you like sitting outside and watching boats go by, then you will love eating at this establishment. The people that own it, and the employees that work there are so friendly. I will be back up in the area in December and you can count on the fact that I will eat there a few times. Good eating establishments are hard to come by. Pros: great food, not many people know about it, service, cute, apmosphere, Cons: not many people know about it, small, more

Hidden little gem 8/13/2008

If the Island Cafe up the street is too busy, go here instead. It can barely be classified as a restaurant--it has a tiny menu and more room outdoors than indoors and takes only cash/check, but what they do make, they do well. They have an actual barbecue that they grill your burgers on outdoors, which are very tasty indeed. It's beautiful and very peaceful above the marina, and there's a huge grassy area where kids can run around and sometimes feed the geese. The folks who work there are super friendly and their cute dog often hangs out, too. I hear they have a great weekend brunch and steak dinner on Fridays. more

Need a ""vacation""? 7/28/2008

After being introduced to this restaurant about a month or so ago, I have come back several times with friends and family. On a marina, its peaceful, relaxing view is all worth it, especially with the weather we have been having of late. The menu is short and the food is casual but every thing I have tried is delicious and those who work there are very gracious. I think once you try it, you'll come back again and again, to sit outside and pretend you are on vacation. more

Great place to hang out and enjoy being with friends and family.. 2/26/2008

I've been here several times. The service is excellent, the food is simple but good and they have all types of beer available. My daughter considers Karl the best pancake and hamburger maker in the world. Excellent location with great views and truly a hidden gem. Pros: Ambience, parking, service Cons: Cash Only more

Best keep secret in Portland-love their Sunay Morning Breakfasts! 7/13/2006

What a great 'hidden secret' we love to go there on Sunday Mornings for their HUGE breakfast with Mimosa's, you can't beat the price or the friendly staff! The breakfast is so big we split it between the two of us. We also love going here on Friday nights for their Bar BQ, what a great place to go close to the water, very casual and fun! Great food too! Pros: Great Bargin, very good food! Cons: Not fancy, but who needs that, the food is so good and it is a great price. more

Could have been more 5/21/2006

I went to the Hidden Bay Cafe based on the previous review. I expected a quaint little cafe and a variety of yummy food. Instead, I found a snack bar that prepared hamburgers (w/o french fries), hot dogs, and a salad. The establishment only takes cash and it does not have an ATM. I left because I lacked cash and a appetite for the menu options. more

One of Portland's Best Kept Secrets! 3/10/2006

This place is right on the water above the marina at the Tomahawk Bay on Hayden Island. You can get there by boat or by car. They have indoor & outdoor seating, so they're open year-round. Very cool place to sit outside and have dinner; the view is great. Or lunch or breakfast. The wknd breakfasts are huge, and come with mimosa. They have great dinners on Friday nights, big enough to split. The owner grills steak and ribs on the big grill outside. Highly recommended. Pros: outdoors, ambiance/view, affordable & good more
