This place is OK, if you like an expensive Logans Steak House. I have nothing against Logan's but when I go there I am not going to pay 24.99 for a bland, boring steak. Our serv...

The Hermitage has always been my favorite choice whenever I wanted excellent ambiance combined with superb food, but to rely solely on tradition, as I recently discovered, is foolhardy. My last three trips to this now defunct restaurant, were just that: terrible. Aside from my embarassment to my friends and family who accompanied me, I could not believe how far the quality of their meats had deterioriated. The rib eyes, especially the 8 oz, was reduced to a minute steak one could purchase at any 3rd rate restaurant: thin, leather like, not marbled and cooked to death because of the lack of thickness. To add insult to injury, when contacted, the owner/manager was neither helpful nor compassionate. After all these years of patronage, I vow never to return to this business. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 2/15/2013

We just left Hermitage Steak House, 02/15/13, having gone there for a combined 22nd anniversary/Valentine's Day dinner. We are so disappointed in the 22.00 and 26.00 filet's we had. Mine 6oz filet was supposed to be medium rare. It was medium, sent it back. My husband's 8oz filet was medium rare like it was supposed to be but burnt on the outside. Neither of them had any seasoning at all. He ate half of it. My new steak was medium rare but hardly looked like a filet and by the time I got it back, I didn't even want it. We brought them both home and essentially paid 60.00 including a tip, for the salad bar and baked potato. The waitress didn't advise management and if she did, they didn't come and even address our issues. Needless to say, we won't make that mistake again. We'll go to Outback where at least they care whether your steak is good or not. \r \r Jeanna Baker\r Hermitage, Tn. more

hermitage steak house 2/1/2012

i have been to the hermitage steak house many times, but in my most recent visits.i have discovered that the food and service is not as good as it used to be.the salad bar is good, but the pricing to get a salad is way too much.in general, i think the food is very over-priced,and over-rated.i dont think the steaks are as good as they used to be,but i do like the bread.i also think the service was very poor.there are only a few waitress that i prefer.i think the manager needs to be be more active with the resteraunt and the customers instead of being in her office,or in some other place.i strongly dislike this resteraunt now.if you are looking for a good steak,go to logans.their food is tastier and better priced. more

Consistently the Best Filet 12/24/2010

I can't believe that anybody has anything bad to say about this Steak House. We've eaten at every other steak house in town and none can top this place. Granted, the only steak we ever order is the filet because it is just so good, why try anything else. The salad bar is fantastic and allows you to create your own to suit your own taste. If you like potato skins, you have to try theirs. This is the place we always take our out of town company and everybody raves about it. It is better than Morton's or Ruth's Chris without the hefty price tag and without the pretentiousness. more

I don't get it 1/17/2010

This place is OK, if you like an expensive Logans Steak House. I have nothing against Logan's but when I go there I am not going to pay 24.99 for a bland, boring steak. Our server was OK, but really somewhat of an automaton. I really don't see any reason to have to go back. Cons: Expensive for caliber of food more

One of Nashville Best Kept Secrets 1/9/2010

I have been to all the Big Commercial Steak Houses in my travels and this is one of Nashville's best kept secrets. Steak is fantastic, Service is always friendly and helpful. The salad bar is one of the best I have every been to. Atmosphere is really nice, the resturant is built to look like a log cabin and is very attractive both inside and out. Pros: Wonderful Rib Eye and Awesome Salad Bar Cons: Not open on Sundays more

Delicious 11/15/2008

The atmosphere of this place is nice and romantic, although it's more romantic on one half than on the other (the side with the booths is more romantic). The salad bar is a little tacky, but yummy and has foods that most salad bars leave out: like more exotic peppers and even pickled okra. The salad bar is usually well kept, except for one time that I went. The food is delicious- especially the tuna appetizer, but there isn't much variety and it is expensive for what you get. The roll that comes with each entree seems to be out of a bag in the freezer section of Kroger. I think that this restaurant is definitely worth going to, but check any coupons you may have- with the percentage of the mandatory tip it may be cheaper to forgo the coupon. Try the tuna! It is phenomenal! Pros: Most of the food is delicious, there is a nice romantic atmosphere, the servers are pleasant Cons: The parking lot of ill maintained and small, the prices are high, the bread rolls are below average, not a lot of variety on the menu more

Everything was Bland 5/21/2008

Bland food, bland atmosphere, bland staff...this place was just plain boring. I have never in my life been so bored at a dining establishment. The food tasted like it was prepared for someone with no taste buds. It was just awful. more

WE FOUND THE SERVICE WAS GREAT 11/15/2007

Good but relatively expensive and not over impressive. 10/12/2007

My wife and I went to HS on a Thursday at 5:30. We had a coupon for $18.00 off an equal priced entree. The stipulation was you were required to pay 18% gratuity. I was not happy to have gratuity mandated because I used a coupon. I guess this is a way to recoup a fraction of the cost of the freebie. If I receive good service it is rewarded but if it is average service it receives average reward. Pros: Good steak. Cons: Over priced. more

If only the service was of the same calibur as the meal 1/21/2007

Being a newcomer to Hermitage, I was eager to partake of the fare at a local eatery instead of the multitude of chain offerings I've tried so many times before. I was greatly disappointed with The Hermitage Steak House due to one factor and one factor alone - our server. more

Wow...wow...WOW! We loved it! 1/8/2007

My husband and I visted The Hermitage Steakhouse on 01/06/07. From the moment we walked it, we knew we had made an excellent choice. Their staff was SUPER friendly - made us feel like we were the only ones there on a busy Saturday night, and without them even knowing it was a special occasion for us! We had the steak and lobster. The steak was PERFECT and the lobster was HUGE!! The environment was really comfortable. Wether in jeans or dressed up, you will feel at home. We were really impressed! Needless to say, we plan on returning! Pros: AWESOME food, Great Service, LOVED the salad buffet! more

Succulent steaks, Hide-away in Hermitage! 7/26/2005

This steak house has plenty of ambience without being stuffy or hovering over you too much. The steak, a rib-eye was cooked to perfection and so tender. The vegetables were also cooked just right. My husband had the filet mignon and was totally satisfied. Great jazz music on the weekends! Pros: warmth, prompt Cons: friendly more

Yum Yum! 9/14/2002
