Good Creole Outside of New Orleans 1/13/2010

Have eaten here a couple of times and have enjoyed the food and ambiance. I am usually disappointed when I eat Cajun/Creole outside of New Orleans, but Harry's is actually quite good. The portions are large, and the menu has a lot to chose from. The location in downtown Athens makes you almost think you're in the French Quarter. Pros: Variety, ambiance, portions Cons: cramped dining areas more

EVEN THE GNATS THOUGHT THE FOOD WAS GOOD !! 9/2/2008

Date of visit: 9/9/08 time: 7p.m. Thinking that our second visit would be better than the first visit when we never got to eat at Harry Bissets, we made reservations so we would not have a problem getting a table like the last time. Our server was great, and had it not been for him, we would have been thoroughly disappointed. We had the Crawfish Etouffee and the blackened Mahimahi covered with etouffee with creamed spinach and red Australian Shiraz wine, which was great --- minus all the gnats buzzing around our table !! Good thing there were extra plates, so we just covered our food to keep them out. WOULD THE MANAGER PLEASE, PUT UP SOME FLY STRIPS IN INCONSPICUOUS PLACES?? The decor and atmosphere, MINUS THE GNATS, was fine.\r \r One final note: when the hostess answers the phone with a heavy southern accent, it sounds as if she calls the place HAIRY BIZZUTS..... like all you serve there is HAIRY BISCUITS. (Probably the same rude hostess that would not get us a table, like the last time). Since the restaurant is Cajun, shouldn't the pronunciation be: HA-REE BEE-SET-Z ?! Pros: DOWNTOWN LOCATION, GREAT SELECTION OF WINE AND CAJUN CUISINE Cons: GNATS, GNATS, GNATS.... AND DINGY HOSTESSES !! more

big suprise in Athens 10/4/2004

Set in an old brick home in downtown Athens, Harry Bisettes succeeds in every way. There are more than a dozen good wines by the glass to choose from. Shrimp Roumalade, though not as good as in some places in NO, it was no slouch. Blackened catch of the day etouffe was succulent and a little sweet, with fresh stir fried veggies and collard greens. Sweet potato pecan pie with Chantilly cream was not too sweet or rich, as hard to believe as that is. Creme brullee was strong too. Pros: wine by the glass, atmosphere more
