Gus Mexican Cantina

I've only had Gus's Margaritas and the salsa and guac. Awesome margaritas. I loved the flavor of the guac and the salsa was one of the best ive tried but it could be a bit spicier but thats just me...i love hot food :) He's very friendly. Fast service. Cute little restaurant. When i get a chance id like to try his shredded beef burrito. I'll post another review once i do. more

I used to go to Gus' when he was located downtown but then found that he wasn't there anymore. :( Its been years since I've had his chips and salsa and shredded beef enchilada plate. It wasn't until recently that I heard he was in Franklin. (Saw him on ""Outrageous Foods"") I live in Shorewood and made my way over to Gus' immediately! I, unlike you crazies writing ill informed reviews below, love his food. Its not like that bland ""MEXICANT"" food and margaritas on the the south side. Gus' margaritas have way more kick! Enchilada Plate the same as I remembered: DELICIOUS! His gravy is like no other. Oh and the rice! To die for. Seriously! I even took a side of rice, Chicken Quesadillas, salsa and chips home for the wife. She missed it too! Anywho, the new place is huge! Real clean too. And yes, finally some easy parking. I had great service. Food was quick and I couldn't be happier. More affordable then I remember. Gus, I'm glad you're still cooking it up! I'll be back with the wife real soon to hit up that Happy Hour! more

I'm sure what Elcucui' is talking about is that he loves eating his wife's dry crap that she overbakes while her fat rear end sits watching Oprah eating cookies by the gross. Her culinary skills don't extend into a world as high class as velveeta. This is because his cheepness has never sprung for anything more expensive in the cheese world than Bobo's cheese food slices in the marked down rack at Aldi's. If good food spanked him he'd think it was his wife expressing her anger over him listening to his Village People albums in the garage all weekend while he eats chicken hot dogs and drinks stale Rhinelander beer. He has recently lowered the prices- not sure what 'elcucui' was talking about with the expensive steak fajitas- they were $21. I ordered the same thing and I thought the steak was damn good. I love the atmosphere there- very welcoming and ascetically pleasing. I saw the cook come out and apologize to a customer for accidentally putting garnish on their dish as well. I would highly recommend getting a margarita here- my wife and I loved ours. The prices are a bit higher- but you are getting large portions and taste great in my opinion(perhaps those writing poor reviews have some beef with the owner...) THIS APPLIES TO THE FRANKLIN SITE .....I cannot believe this place received any good press. It is the absolute worst food I have ever had. Ordered the steak fajitas. At $27.95 , they were certainly the most expensive I have ever ordered (ANYWHERE) The steak was sparse, was of poor quality with soggy peppers, onions and tomatoes, and get this, had cheese on it! NEWS FLASH ....eh, ""Senor"" Gus?, fajitas do not have cheese ""sauce"" (Velveeta?"") on them! Another guest of mine ordered the steak torta (a Mexican sandwich) as you can surpimise from above, disappointing is putting it mildly. The guacamole ordered as an appetizer was tastless because the avocado was not ripe. In all, this is an insult to really good Mexican Food in the area. DO NOT waste your hard earned money or time on this place. Oh and did I mention,? We were also OVERCHARGED. When I brought it up to the waiter, he got the old ""deer in the headlights look"" and sent me to the owner, (GUS?) who could not be found. I waited and waited and waited..... then left. While driving away, It dawned upon me......perhaps GUS was out getting more Veveeta cheese sauce to drench his culinary creations with?....What a FRAUD!!! My family and I just ate at Gus' last week and we were very satisfied with their wait staff and food quality. We were seated right away and our server was very friendly. The food came out fast and the garnishing were fresh which added to the taste. I had the steak enchinlads with rice and beans. I could barley finish my plate but everything on it was amazing. My wife had the fish tacos and she kept telling me that they were the best she has ever had. Overall Gus' was delicious and we definetely will be back. Pros: loved the chips and salsa more
