During appointments we were happy with Dr. Groves and made good progress. He is studied and patient and a good guide for relationship growth and counseling. Aside from our time in appointments, there were a few things that put me off that were part of the overall experience. We routinely waited for appointments. The office waiting area was always in need of cleaning and the bathroom was pretty bad. It always needed cleaning and was often out of supplies. I accepted these things because I'm fairly tolerant and while they didn't seem professional, there weren't extreme. The thing that really bothered me was the way the relationship ended. After over a year of regular appointments we took a couple of months off to deal with the slow death of a parent. When we contacted him to make a new appointment Dr. Groves returned the call with a voice mail saying he didn't have time in his schedule and gave us a couple of referrals. That would bother me coming from a friend, moreso a professional counselor with whom we had an established relationship and trust. It wasn't so much the lack of time in his schedule but the impersonality of a voice mail and the finality of, 'here are a couple of referrals, bye.' I didn't even feel welcome to contact him again. I was pretty disappointed.
Pros: good counselor, trustworthy, patient, studied
Cons: waiting room & bathroom cleanliness, waiting room time, manner of ending the relationship
