RE: Excellent Doctor - New office in the Heights - I-10 and Shepherd 3/19/2008

I have been seeing this doctor for several years for bipolar disorder. I do feel I need to see him more often but schedules med checks every 90 days (I hear the current standard of care for a psychiatrist unless you are changing medications). I am really trying to help myself, take my medications as prescribed. I am making it because of his excellent care but I feel I need to see him more often. He did refer me to a therapist but I still need him because we just click when we talk and it is so much easier to share things with him including my suicidal thoughts than with my therapist. I don't hink he is odd at all??? where did the previous person get that - he is not your conservative surburban doctor - he is far more interesting than that!! Lots of different interests and you are not speaking to a blank wall - he shares just enough of his life to help you open up to him. This really is a great doctor and I should know since I have seen many psychiatrist in the last 20 years since being diagnosed. He is by far the most human one I have every been to see - most put up a wall and you can't get near them - or their thoughts. I hope he never retires because I don't want to have to look for someone new - luckily he is young so that should not happen for a while. Pros: RE: Kind doctor with open and fun style of commuication Cons: Mark has been at his job too long - cavalier about helping you when you call.... more

Acceptable doc, but staff needs some improvement 3/10/2008

Unfortunately, I have been to quite a few psychiatrist myself, looking for a good one. Is it me or do some of them seem like they should be seeing a psychiatrist themselves? Gritz is very caring and has a positive attitude, but quite odd. I will keep seeing him because I think he is honest and is not a pill-pusher like many of them. His office staff could be more considerate. I always have to sit around afterwards, while he is taking personal calls and doing his own thing, instead of taking a minute to get me out of there quicker. Sometimes I spend more time with him than the doctor just to give him my payment. Quite frustrating. Pros: Good doc, not a pill-pusher Cons: always running late, office staff is sluggish more

Best of the Best - Baylor Educated Psychiatrist that is just fabulous! 2/16/2008

The best ....he is the best psychiatrist and I should know since I have been to several and been hospitalized more than a few times with bipolar disorder......he makes me feel safe.....because he is in charge of my care......I iknow he will be there when I need him.....this makes all the difference to me......suicidal thoughts don't panic me any more since I know I have someone who can really help me..... I know my problems are life long but at least I now have a good doctor so feel confident that I can have a good life. Pros: GREAT DOCTOR - GO SEE HIM Cons: He is really busy but does not rush you....... more

I just hope he treats his patients better than he treats people in his personal life... 1/31/2008

Went to dinner once with this dude SEVERAL years ago ( he sure was proud of his Jaguar - hmmph ) and then he got all bent out of shape when I didn't return his calls immediately. He then tried to psychoanalyze me and said I was selfish and rude... But in reality I was just BUSY! Sheesh! more

Well, now I feel even MORE of an outsider 1/3/2008

And I say that because Dr. Gritz has treated me and talked to me like I'm an idiot 3-year old. He never lets me finish what I'm trying to say. He makes me feel pathetic. Unfortunately, a coworker highly recommended him. I went to see him after NOT seeing a shrink for a couple of years. I guess he doesn't like me at all, and treats me accordingly. Well, I don't like him either. I will NOT be treated like a 3-year old. I'm 45 years old, dammit. Pros: His office on Richmond is awesomely designed! Cons: He treats me like a 3-year old. more

Courteous - Respectful - Trusting - My Shrink 10/18/2007

Have to say to the writer regarding Dr. Do-Do - you must have caught Dr. Gritz on a bad day. This was never my experience. Coming into his office with issues of my own was not only a painless task, but it also opened my eyes to the ""non"" pretentious, ""non"" pre-madonna and ""non"" malipulative style of psychiatry that I had experienced previously. If other docs picked up his easy going style, coupled with his deliberate goal for helping his patients, the bad wrap of psychiatrists might not be so prevalent. Have not seen him in many months, but when I call, he is always available to see me and pick up where we left off. more

Great Doctor - interesting dresser - lots of personality 7/28/2007

I really like this doctor. It is hard to put into words how much I like him. He listens and really does his best to help you. You do have to open up to him and tell him about all your problems but he makes it easy because of his caring personality. He also keeps up with the latest on psychiatric medications so you will get the best care possible. He is just the best! Pros: Baylor Grad more

Very Good Psychiatrist - specializes in Bipolar and ADHD 7/10/2007

I agree with the person before me in that I don't usually do reviews but I hate to see a good doctor maligned in print. No one really loves going to a psychiatrist because that means you have a problem that needs to be treated but if you have to go I highly recommend Dr. Gritz. He is not arrogant in fact he is just the opposite. He is kind hearted, friendly and always professional. It is so much easier to talk to him because he does share a little of his life. You need to tell him private, intimate things about your life and he makes that easier by sharing a little bit of his. He does give you his cell phone number and is very responsive if you do have to call him. I called him because I had medication question and he called me back in 15 minutes. Unfortunately psychiatric medications react differently in everyone so you usually have to try several medications before you get the right med and right dosage. I was lucky and the second med he prescribed really helped me but I know from prior experiece that sometimes you have to try many medications before you get the right one. This has nothing to do with how good the doctor is. This doctor is bright, young, energetic and very easy to talk to about what is going on in your life. If you need a psychiatrist call him! You will be so happy you did. Pros: Doctor's personality, nice office staff and easy parking more

Great Doctor 7/5/2007

I never do this but after seeing the Dr. DoDo review I had to respond. I have been seeing Dr. Gritz for a couple of years. He has been amazing to me and for me. There were times that I also had problems with Medication. But all I had to do was tell him and he was very helpful. I mean how many Doctors do you know that will give you their Cell Phone Numbers to call anytime. Yes he talks about his life and we talk about my life. He is not some clinical Doctor and I am not just some number. If that is what you wanted you are right to not go back. But if you want a real person a real Doctor and someone who you know has your best intrest at heart This is the guy to go to. more

Dr. Dodo 6/8/2007

This ""medical professional"" left a lot to be desired. He was rather arrogant and condescending from his initial handshake until he saw me out of the office. He talked a little too much about his personal life on my most recent visit. I feel that he over prescribed psychiatic medications, and all his prescriptions left me in a fog and unable to function. I was doing better before I ever saw him. I had a positive experience on my first few visits, but after my most recent visit I won't be going back. more

Awesome psychiatrist!!!!! 3/14/2007

Two Thumbs up, WAY UP! for this doctor. Excelent manner, great listener, sympathetic and very energetic. Made me feel welcomed from minute one to when he personaly escorted me to the front desk for my follow up appointment. Pros: Thumbs UP more

Caring psychiatrist with a positive attitude. 12/31/2006

Dr. Gritz has helped my teenage daughter improve her focus at school tremendously. He is a empathetic person who will really take time to understand your problems. Many psychiatrists spend 10 minutes with you if you are lucky, but I never feel rushed with Dr. Gritz and that is unique. His office is easy to find and parking is free and readily available. Pros: Dr.'s personality more
