My mom and I have used Greenfield Veterinary Hospital for our many cats since I was a child and Dr. Babik was still independently practicing there. We met Dr. Winnie shortly after...

I have been taking my pets to Greenfield Veterinary Hospital for several years now, based upon a recommendation of an animal loving colleague (the proud owner of dogs, cats, birds...

MADE ME SICK 10/22/2008

I have been going to Dr. Winnies office for a while and I know all the staff well but after what I overheard I'm going to think long and hard about going elsewhere. The other day I went in to pick up some medication and no one was at the desk, I knew someone would be out soon so I decided not bother anyone so I just waited a few minutes. What I heard made me almost sick. I hate to get anyone in trouble but I think people should know what is going on there and if I decide to bring my pets back, I will be asking the doctors about this. I heard Susie the girl who works the counter talking about how she was was allowed to "cut the cat open", how "cool" it was and that her thumbs left an indention in the body and I heard her say that they know the cat had kidney problems and that was what it dies from. I heard another voice ask if that was what Dr. Winnie agreed with and she said no, "he was not even there." Again, forgive me for trying to get others in trouble but I would think that a doctor should be the one to try to understand why an animal died, not a girl who answers the phones. Does professionalism and sensitivity mean anything there? Pros: close to home Cons: insensitive more

I love Greenfield Vet! 9/17/2008

I am so surprised to read the reviews below. Both Dr. Winnie and Dr. Zambon have been nothing but thorough and absolutely sweet to my cats. I can usually get an appointment without a long wait, and their prices are fair. \r \r I started going here on a recommendation, and I have continued to recommend them to other people. No one I know has had a problem. more

fantastic veterinary clinic 8/18/2008

I do not want to discount peoples opinions or experiences, however as a former veterinary technician and avid animal mother, I must say that my experiences at Greenfield Veterinary Hospital is by far the best the burgh has to offer. Although I just recently lost my beloved boy, Dr. Winnie and his staff treated me, and all my babies with the utmost professionalism and respect. I know they have had staffing issues, but I have never felt slighted in the least. Dr. Winnie, as well as the staff at GVC have taken care of my special needs boy and has guided me every step of the way in his treatment and care. Where other vets would have given up on my dog and just pumped him full of medications, Dr. Winnie did his homework and pulled his expertise to try and make my dogs quality of life the best that it was for the time I had him. I am forever grateful to him!!! Pros: everything Cons: nothing more

Exceptional Veterinary Care 7/16/2008

I recently moved to Pittsburgh from Richmond, Va and when my beloved cat suddenly took ill, Dr. Winnie and the staff at Greenfield jumped to my aid. I understand that due to a recent loss of the second doctor, the clinic hours had to be cut and availability is limited, but when I needed them they were there. They took him in, did emergency surgery, hospitalized him and now he is home back to his normal self. Without Dr. Winnie and the caring staff at Greenfield Veterinary Hospital I know my boy wouldn't be alive today. Waiting for Dr. Winnie and the care he provides is worth it. Pros: Excellent doctor and staff, small but adequate facility, great level of care Cons: availability more

Rudest vet i have ever met 6/22/2008

During a 15 minute period Dr. Winnie managed to ensure I will never return to Greenfield Vet Hospital. I arrived for my appointment and was immediately checked in by a very friendly receptionist. A few minutes later a very sweet nurse came out to let me know that the doctor was caring for a very sick animal at the moment, but that he would be with me shortly. She even offered to get me and my pet water. Since my pet was there simply for a check up and some shots I of course didn't mind waiting. But to make s long story short i eventually went back to see the doctor. He eventually came into the room in a huff. I have a very large dog who is very strong. Had Dr Winnie bothered to look at the chart before coming into the room he would have known the size of my dog. He was obviously gonna need help restraining my pet. Instead of politely excusing himeself he threw the door open and yelled in an agitated tone, " Can I get some help in here!?" Not sure why he yelled because when he opened the door a could see a nurse waiting immediately outside the door. She rushed right in. The rudeness continued from there. I tried to ask him a question about my dog's ear. He interrupted me and said very rudely, " Mind if i finish what i'm doing first?" He listened to my dog's heart for about a fraction of a second. Then it was time for shots. The nurse had my dog held very still. One shot in and no problem. But instead of Dr. Winnie walking 3 steps to give my dog his second shot in his other shoulder, he made the nurse turn my entire 100 lb dog 180 degrees. Then talked her like she was a child because the dog was moving. Not only did my dog not receive a thorough exam, but Dr. Winnie was rude to me and his employees. If he treats his employess this way in front of me, I can't imagine how he treats them when clients arent in the room. I will never be back and the Dr. Winnie's rude and condescending attitude is the reason! Pros: friendly office staff Cons: rude doctor, no availability more

:-/ 6/14/2008

When I took my sick dog here, my first impression was great. The receptionist and technician were very friendly. But when Dr. Winnie came into the room, he made me feel as if I was wasting his time like he had better things to be doing. I was trying to help the technician hold my dog and the doctor practically yelled at me. I was only trying to be helpful. My pet is big and the girl was fairly small- the doctor was not helping her. Pros: friendly staff Cons: parking, not able to get an appt quickly more

Fabulous Veternary Clinic 6/3/2008

They've always been available, even when I've missed appointments because of schedule conflicts.\r \r Plus, the doctor figured out that my one cat had severe chicken allergies. No other vet could answer what was wrong with our cat before...she'd get sores and not feel well, and we didn't know what to do. Finding food without chicken did the trick. She's a happy cat now.\r \r I applaud the Greenfield Vets for their work! more

Dr. Zambon is ABSOLUTELY the BEST 4/8/2008

Greenfield Vets is the most compassionate place I've ever been to; Dr. Zambon is wonderful. I truly owe my dog's life to her, and her alone, and am SO thankful. She treated him for his illness when NO other vets would. His life was hanging on the line when I came to her as a new patient, upon recommendation of a friend who is also a client. She truly committed herself to his health, and it was obvious she TRULY cared; this was NOT just a job to her. The story has a happy ending, as my big furry family member recovered and survived. And I owe it all to her. Pros: compassionate, takes time to listen, reasonably priced Cons: office is fairly small, but the quality of care inside it makes up for it! more

These people are wonderful 3/31/2008

When our four-year-old Springer Spaniel developed cancer our family was heartbroken. We decided to try chemo because she was so young. Although Dr. Winnie did not perform her treatments he still saw her regularly on her off weeks. Throughout this tough time, Dr. Winnie could not have been more caring and gentle. Although our dog passed away, it was in no way due to the care that she received. Our dog loved Dr Winnie and so do we. more

Long-time and happy customer 3/6/2008

We've been using Greenfield Vet Hospital since 1995 and have nothing but good things to say about the vets and staff there. Everyone is friendly, no problems getting an appointment scheduled and I never feel rushed when we are with the vet. Two of our dogs have had surgery there and both were successful.\r \r We moved away, but travel from the other end of the city when our dog needs care. more

Best vetrinary care 2/19/2008

I can't say enough about how special Dr. Winnie and his staff truly are. They have treated both of my girls for almost 6 years. They have diagnosed ailments and provided successful for those ailments that other vetrinarians just ignored or wrote off. They have gone above and beyond what I expected in emergency situations. Pros: excellent staff, evening and weekend hours, treat you & your pet like family Cons: parking, major tests and procedures may need to be out of house more

Compassionate and knowledgable care. 9/18/2007

My Black Lab mix has been under the care of Dr. Winnie since May 2007. He has always treated my dog with skill, kindness, and compassion. In fact, if it wasn't for Dr. Winnie having diagnosed the allergies that other vets had missed for years, my dog would likely be living his life in pain. I think that Dr. Winnie is easy to talk to and answers questions well, and the staff at the hospital are always friendly to me and handle my dog gently but expertly. Pros: good care, inexpensive, vet is nice Cons: difficult to park, need to take time off work to get an appointment more

Incompetent pet killers 8/24/2007

I took my cat, Max, to this vet as a new patient. He didn't feel well. Dr. Zambon said to leave him for tests. Shortly after, she called and said he was in renal failure with complications. I tried to ask what the prognosis was. Dr. Zambon absolutely refused to say--she just blathered on without structure for a mind-numbing length of time. When I tried to ask questions, she talked louder. I gathered Max needed extensive treatment and since he was old, I didn't want him to go through it. Pros: Cheap Cons: Your pet won't survive more

Great Doctor & Staff 7/12/2007

I have been taking my dogs and cats to Dr. Winnie for years and he and his staff are caring, gentle, and just great, Overall, it is the best care for my pets that they have ever received. more

Winnie broke my heart 6/5/2007

Dr Winnie performed a minor surgery on my Great Dane who had a growth under the skin of his neck. The next day Czar began throwing up old dark blod. ( goto: reference dot com and search the word "Intubation") I rushed Czar back to Greenfield Veterinary's Dr Winney - in the end my dog bled-out. Had I gone to a qualified emergency care facility Czar might have survived. I blame myself - I should have figured out that they didn't have the tools or talent at Greenfield Veterinary to help Czar. My heart is broken - I loved Czar so much and the loss was horrific.....don't count on this place or this vet with your pets life. Pros: might be close to you Cons: your pet may not survive more

Best veterinary care 2/13/2007

As a past employee of GVH, I know they have a highly trained and compassionate staff. The care the animals receive is excellent. We had previously been to 3 vets before we found GVH and stayed! I liked the place so much I got a job there! They are not an emergency hospital or a walk-in clinic. Everything is by appointment only. They have the capability to perform many types of procedures aside from every day visits - dental cleanings, spay/neuter surgery, otoscopies, sonograms, etc. They are accepting new clients. Dr. Sean WInnie and Dr. Natalie Zambon are the practicing vets and they are both outstanding. Pros: Great customer/vet service, pets are pampered Cons: Small office, street parking with some spots in the back of the building more

Good vet in Greenfield 11/13/2005

Although we've only been going to the Greenfield Veterinary hospital for a short time, we're impressed with the knowledge of the vets there and the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The facility is a bit cramped (especially when you're trying to navigate a 70 pound dog through a waiting room full of other excited cats and dogs) but clean and well run. The prices are very reasonable. They're definitely better than our previous vet (VCA Fox Chapel Animal Hospital). more

Owner Message
  • Greenfield Veterinary Hospital opened its doors in 1979. The owner, Frank Babik, VMD operated as a solo practitioner at this location until Sean Winnie, DVM joined the practice in 2001. In 2006 when Dr. Babik decided to reduce the number of hours he wished to practice, Dr. Winnie took over as medical director. Dr. Babik officially retired in November 2008. Since 2006 the hospital has undergone a series of upgrades and changes to serve the needs of our clients better. New radiographic equipment for more expedient and improved radiographic quality were acquired in 2007. An endoscope to assist animals with chronic ear infections was also purchased in 2007. In 2011 we purchased the Abaxis HM5 Complete Blood Count (CBC) and the VS2 Chemistry Analyzer to provide rapid in-house blood analysis for critical and urgent cases to better treat those patients. We are modernizing our facility with a veterinary software management program for invoicing, vaccine tracking, record keeping, inventory and billing/payments. Although transitioning from a completely paper based practice to a paperless practice is far from complete, we are making major strides in reaching that ultimate goal. Our recycling and environmental goals are set for the future and achievable in the next couple of years. There will also be some structural changes to the building forthcoming at the end of 2012 beginning of 2013 that should help accommodate more patients and provide better service for our existing clients as well as the new clients that join the GVH family every day.. We perform all general surgery (spays, neuters and declaws),oral health assessment and cleanings, dental surgeries, mass removal, total ear canal ablations, enucleations, abdominal exploratories, anal gland abscesses, toe amputation, tail docks and dew claw removals on puppies, splenectomy, biopsies, limb amputation and more. We also offer ultrasound by a board certified internal medicine specialist who will come on-site to perform the procedure. We work exclusively with Antech laboratories for all our outside lab work.

    · Local veterinary hospital servicing the community for over 30 years.

    · We are familiar with your pet and your pets needs.

    · In-house laboratory to check internal organ function preoperatively to insure pet is healthy enough for anesthesia.

    · All surgeries over the age of 7 are placed on IV fluids to stabilize blood pressure during all anesthetic procedures.

    · All declaws remain hospitalized for 2 days so that pain can be managed with appropriate pain medication.

    · Pets hospitalized overnight are monitored by capable staff members.

Orthopedic surgeries are referred to highly trained surgeons off-site at a specialty practice.
