This place has some of the nicest, high quality, and stylish frames i've ever seen. Most places carry the brand name stuff, which they also do, but they also have the very boutiquey type of stuff as well. Service and quality exceed every other place i've been to. more

After years of wearing glasses I decided to change from the everyday, easy lenscrafter or cohens type place to GRAND CENTRAL OPTICAL. A private practice family owned for 40 years( as they explained to me ...ha ha ha) was a huge difference from what I have been used to.The examination was thorough and the doctors really seemed to be concerned witht he right products for me. The help with glasses and contacts was excellent. I personally dont enjoy shopping at a pushy , buy buy buy type of place, which GRAND CENTRAL OPTICAL was not. From one educated shopper to another I absolutly recommend this place to any one to you. Pros: EVERYTHING!!!!! more

Little did I know that my company had a huge plan that many have been overlooking. I came to Grand Central Optical to get glasses and found that that i actually had vision insurance. Being a former optician in Atlanta many years ago I can tell a bad shop from a good shop. Grand Central Optical has perfected the fine art of salesmanship, customer service as well as the specific of optics and which products suited me best. They explained all my options, let me know which ones would be overkill and which would be guaged perfectly for my frame choice and prescription. I was a patient at another local eyecare professional when i needed an appointment and pair of glasses quick. My former merchant was uneasy about getting me an exam the same day and also slightly skeptical about getting my glasses done for me the same day. I then called Grand Central Optical where they were able to squeeze me in and get my new glasses done for me A.S.A.P. Frames were phenominal, service was excellent. After reading reviews for this merchant on Citysearch, I eagerly scheduled an eye exam and looked forward to viewing their frame selection. I got stuck in traffic and was ten minutes late for my appointment, and as I walked in, one of the salespeople looked at his watch with condescension and parental disapproval despite my profuse apologies. I accepted that as my fault, but I was somewhat perplexed by this service faux pas (for the record, I have never encountered this obnoxious gesture during my ten years of living in Manhattan) since the place was near empty the entire time I was there. My eye exam was not very informative and the optician/opthamologist did little to educate me on my mild stigmaticism, such that I've since done my own research better worth my time. I can't put my finger on the eerie feeling I got from visiting this merchant, but the employees seemed at once complacent and obsequious; eager to show their merchandise, but coldly rude if you decide to wait on purchasing. We had one woman helping us at first who was fairly pleasant, then another saleswoman seemed to swoop in and usurp things altogether, only to make the whole experience unpleasant by showing us the more expensive and stylistically questionable items described in gauche, clunky language. Moreover, once my prescription was determined, the person who did my eye exam handed my slip to a guy, who then gave the slip to another woman to give to me. I don't know if they work on commission there, but if you wish to experience a diorama of class struggle, a fiefdom in which the feudal eye-lord dwells behind an aluminum door and stoically takes your eye exam then retreats into her lair, do venture into this overpriced, overstuffed atelier. Shopping for eyewear should be fun, and eye exams are far too important to be anything less than informative. Originally I went during lunch to Lenscrafters on Lexington. They were extremely difficult to deal with so I went to Grand Central Optical. Grand Central Optical was able to squeeze me in with an exam and find a great frame. Their knowledgable and patient staff helped me to choose the perfect frame and lense for my RX. At first glance, this seemed like a nice upscale store. The jaded, somewhat bored attitude of the staff should have been a tipoff that could care less about your vision. In my case, the doctor first told me I had perfect vision and didn't need contacts before figuring out I had them in. Then she redid the exam and deduced that my old prescription was all wrong and that I needed progressives. I told her that I liked to change my lenses regularly cause I had gotten infections and she insisted you can wear these for a full month without taking them out. A week later on a trip, my eyes started bothering me and I called the store asking them to fax a prescription so I could get a fresh pair. They refused and I had no choice but to wear the old pair driving home and lo and behold I got an eye infection. They were totally unsympathetic and even told me they hadn't charged enough for my eye exam. Run from this place. PROS: None CONS: Unethical owner, incompetent doctors more

This is a wonderful place to get new glasses or contacts. It's very clean and the doctors are very professional. The doctor really made sure I had the correct prescription, while other doctors have not done that. This is the first time that problem was picked up and I am impressed with them. more

Now with summer in session i needed a new pair of sunglasses for recreation. I came to grand central optical in need of an eye exam and a quick pair of professional quality sunglasses. I got all the bells and whistles such as anti-reflective and polarization and a great frame! My Rx was exact so now while i enjoy my weekends i can see crystal clear with the piece of mind that i have the best product! Excellent experience! Pros: Service and selection is outstanding! more

I came with my companies vision insurance and Grand Central Optical accepted it and allowed me to use it toward a designer frame! I upgraded my lenses and got my pair very quickly. I did get an appointment very quickly here, but I ended up having to go back three times to get my prescription correct. After I was finally given the right prescription, it took them three weeks to get the right contacts in because they kept ordering the wrong ones. Every time I went in to pick up the contacts, they argued with me that they were the right ones (even though I showed them the updated prescription), and tried to get me to take the wrong contacts home! I had my eyes examined with my family eye doctor and wasn't sure if they would honor my RX. I stopped in and they gladly accepted it. The staff explained to me my best options for my prescription and all turned out well. I recieved my glasses and sunglasses the next day, just in time for my fishing trip on the weekend! admitingly, I have a tough contact prescription to fill. It took many tries only for me to find out that my stigmatism isnt worth fixing w/contacts. I told them upfront that I wanted them for sports and that if it wasnt worth it, then to save the time. I spent over $300 for a 3 month supply of useless toric lenses! They would not refund the money (only give store credit). They also took my current glasses and gave me the prescription for them (for later refill). When I checked with my old optomatrist, the prescription was actually not the prescription they ""obtained"" from my glasses. The Dr gave it her best tries... I just wish they were more honest. My fiance and I each got a pair of glasses and sunglasses. The doctor was very nice and the staff was helpful and friendly. We had to reschedule just hours before the exam and they were very accomodating. more

I went in to buy a new pair of glasses and left with sunglasses aswell. Both pairs had all the best coatings and treatments. They told me it would be completed by the following friday, I received a call on wednesday that they were ready. I now constantly receive complements on both! Excellent work! I went to a local chain store and had a terrible experience. Grand central optical examined me and made my glasses within 3 days so I could have them for my conference that weekend.
