We went to Gotham Tavern on the spur of the moment for my wife's birthday dinner. Ok, maybe not where you might expect to take your wife for a Birthday, but it was on the way to where we are going, like to try new spots, and saw it on a restaurant website and had bought a gift certificate. Well everything was perfect and my wife was pleased. (which isn't always easy to do)
The weaved wood wall was really interesting and my wife liked the atmosphere. Started out with a Birthday drink, a Blueberry Lemon Drop on the house, which was a nice option as opposed to a birthday dessert, which she usually is too full to really enjoy. I had the Blackened Salmon which was excellent on a bed of diced potatoes nicely seasoned to compliment the salmon and lightly sauteed spinach with a delicious sauce. I had never been asked how I wanted my salmon cooked, so I was sure how to answer, but I went with medium which was perfect. It was expecting a small filet but it was a nice sized piece of salmon
My wife had the Spicy Chicken Linguini which was incredible. Lucky for me my wife can never finish her entree which means I got to enjoy the rest and it was wonderful. She ordered it medium spicy which was maybe just a little bit too spicy for her but just right for my taste. Many restaurants in town's definition of the word spicy just doesn't match my definition, but this chef understands what spicy means. My wife raved over the bacon gonzola balsamic vinaigrette dressing, and I agree it was quite tasty. The chef really knows what he is doing, everything was so scrumptious I literally was scrapping the seasonings and sauces off the plate with my fork.
I've read some bad reviews about the service but maybe we just got lucky because the service and food was prompt. Our waitress Sara was just great, attentive, cheerful, and very helpful with suggestions.
We definitely will be back to try some of the other entrees.
