pretty good food... not so good service 1/21/2011

Last night I went to the gotham with 3 friends to celebrate my birthday. It was our first time there and dispite the not so good reviews we decided to give it a chance. Our first interaction with ""one of our waitresses"" was not so welcoming. It really bothered me that they needed to know over the phone if we had a restarauntcom gift certificate and then brought it up again when we first sat down. It seems like if you have a coupon you get treated like crap. They know they will be getting 18% gratuity so they dont even try. I cant say that all of our waitresses were unfriendly but one of them wouldnt even crack a smile. Not the kind of service I expect when spending that kind of money. Even though the food was pretty good we wont be returing to this restaraunt and wouldnt recommend it to others. more

wish I had 4 thumbs so I could give them 4 thumbs Down. 12/4/2009

I wouldn't even give them Zero stars because that would be to many Stars. I feel that I should get my money back with the rude service and on top of that the food was Horrible. The old hippie chef w/ glasses and long hair CANT cook OH you can't call yourself a Chef if you prepare crap food. So the Hippie who Prepares Crap food. I think I would classify his feeble attempt as Reheating prepared food from the cheep local food distributor. You Rock and I feel Stiffed out of money and I feel the only way they could make it up to me and others is to shut your door for good, and I would not Recommend anyone to ever do business at this Hole I wouldn't even have my dog to eat at this establishment if that?s what you want to call it. I think you might get better service, and tasting food at the Salvation Army. Pros: N/A Cons: Dont know where to start......... more

Awesome Lunch!!!! 5/24/2009

My wife and I went to Gotham Tavern for lunch the other day and had a great time. The food was delicious and service was very attentive. Seems like they don't get a ton of traffic given that Widmer is around the corner (and packed), but food and the atmosphere at Gotham is great. Check it out! Pros: Quick, Fresh, Great Service Cons: None! more

Perfect! Food was Great, Service was Excellent 1/25/2009

We went to Gotham Tavern on the spur of the moment for my wife's birthday dinner. Ok, maybe not where you might expect to take your wife for a Birthday, but it was on the way to where we are going, like to try new spots, and saw it on a restaurant website and had bought a gift certificate. We went to Gotham Tavern on the spur of the moment for my wife's birthday dinner. Ok, maybe not where you might expect to take your wife for a Birthday, but it was on the way to where we are going, like to try new spots, and saw it on a restaurant website and had bought a gift certificate. Well everything was perfect and my wife was pleased. (which isn't always easy to do) The weaved wood wall was really interesting and my wife liked the atmosphere. Started out with a Birthday drink, a Blueberry Lemon Drop on the house, which was a nice option as opposed to a birthday dessert, which she usually is too full to really enjoy. I had the Blackened Salmon which was excellent on a bed of diced potatoes nicely seasoned to compliment the salmon and lightly sauteed spinach with a delicious sauce. I had never been asked how I wanted my salmon cooked, so I was sure how to answer, but I went with medium which was perfect. It was expecting a small filet but it was a nice sized piece of salmon My wife had the Spicy Chicken Linguini which was incredible. Lucky for me my wife can never finish her entree which means I got to enjoy the rest and it was wonderful. She ordered it medium spicy which was maybe just a little bit too spicy for her but just right for my taste. Many restaurants in town's definition of the word spicy just doesn't match my definition, but this chef understands what spicy means. My wife raved over the bacon gonzola balsamic vinaigrette dressing, and I agree it was quite tasty. The chef really knows what he is doing, everything was so scrumptious I literally was scrapping the seasonings and sauces off the plate with my fork. I've read some bad reviews about the service but maybe we just got lucky because the service and food was prompt. Our waitress Sara was just great, attentive, cheerful, and very helpful with suggestions. We definitely will be back to try some of the other entrees. more

If zero stars were an option.....this place would get it. 1/6/2009

Sounds familiar to my story I think I had the same coupon for $35 meal ($25 off).......""My husband and I kept looking at the statement puzzled again by the final calculations. The owner saw our frustration and had our waitress approach us. ""Oh...by the way"", she said, the tip is already included"" Pros: If you were starving on an island, I guess this food would do Cons: Flies in my face, poor food quality, crapy foul mouthed slow servers more

Sounds familiar to my story I think I had the same coupon for $35 meal ($25 off)......."My husband and I kept looking at the statement puzzled again by the final calculations. The owner saw our frustration and had our waitress approach us. "Oh...by the way", she said, the tip is already included" Only difference with my story is we did dispute it, 18% seemed a bit steep for the service. After all we had waited 30 min to get our appetizers and first drinks, then 20 min later were told we needed to wait to make our dinner order because the cook was getting too busy, and then waited about 40 min to get or bill. All the while with an empty water glass. The response I got was what shocked me. I was told if I didn?t like it I could just never come back. When I mentioned that would be good advice that I would be sure to share with my friends and coworkers, I was told to "shut my f'ing mouth and leave the restaurant. As I left in disbelief, I was hollered at again and called a fat cow. I will not be returning. Side note - as a fat cow, I know how bacon, burger and fries should be cooked and this chef was way off the mark! Pros: If you were starving on an island, I guess this food would do Cons: Flies in my face, poor food quality, crapy foul mouthed slow servers more

SSS-LLL-OOO-WWW 10/9/2008

Two friends and I decided to get together--have a bite to eat and a couple of drinks. I had spotted Gotham on Citysearch and noticed they had a happy hour until 7 and thought great! So lets start with the "good"- Gotham has an interesting look. We didn't get a pod but we did acquire a nice long table. My friends ordered off the regular menu--and opted for the Gotham burger ($8.50 I think) which looked really good. One got sweet potatoe fries which were FANTASTIC. One thing to note, if you're anti-grease perhaps the burger isn't for you. I ordered from the happy hour menu ($3 ea) which had probably about 6 items on it. What I can remember were hot wings, quesdilla (sans chicken), artichoke dip, sesame beef wraps, but I know there was another few things. I went for wings and wraps--which were ok...nothing special but good. From the drink menu I and one friend went for a very tart Blueberry lemon drop, and another ordered (I think it was called) a Think Pink which was very grapefruity. Our drinks were mixed strongly so I feel like we got our $8 out of the glass. Now the BAD- The evening started out with the server apologizing because they were short staffed--this went beyond short staffed. We were easily there for almost an hour before we got our first water refill (which mine was then filled so high it overflowed). Our wait time for drink #1 was about 20 minutes after we ordered it. The servers walked around trying not to make eye contact --so we had to flag ours down to request things. It took forever to get food. I had asked for ranch with my wings--I got blue cheese. The server disregarded our request to have it all come at the same time. t took two tries requesting appetizer plates, silverware, and napkins--seriously. The nail in this dinning experience coffin was--it took 45 minutes to get our bill. Overall- The foods was ok but not so fantastic, the atmosphere was cool, be prepared to make a serious time commitment. Pros: Decent food, drinks, 7 pm happy hour Cons: Could become a senior citizen before food arrives more

great location, absolutely superb service. 8/17/2008

I had the ""Mom's Meatloaf."" It was ok. The salad and fries were top notch. Had a few flies buzzing around, but that didn't bother me much. Pros: service, staff, ambience, location Cons: average meatloaf more

I had the "Mom's Meatloaf." It was ok. The salad and fries were top notch. Had a few flies buzzing around, but that didn't bother me much. Our waitress was the very best: good attention but not pestering us; professional but with great character; her hygeine and food handling were excellent. The restroom was spotless, and that's a good measure of the other areas. All the staff were friendly. I plan returning again. Just because the meatloaf was average, my mate raved about her chicken entree. She was still raving this morning. They should get rid of the 50's music, however. Pros: service, staff, ambience, location Cons: average meatloaf more

Likelihood that I'd go back to this restaurant: None 6/29/2008

This was one of the strangest service experiences ever. My husband and I had a $25 gift certificate for Gotham and we headed out on Friday night in hopes of good things. Our evening started out on a good note: we had a private 'pod' table which was a new and enjoyable place to sit - a place where I'd imagine Captain Kirk and his crew would hang out. Pros: Food was tasty, star trek ambiance Cons: Inflated prices, poor math skills, the continuously ringing bell more

Our first server was obviously the owner: (perhaps overly) eager to please, very accomodating with substitutions and quick with suggestions. Our second server was obviously new and flustered - and having the owner (who ended up being not only a server, but the chef) incessantly ring the kitchen bell when orders were ready likely did nothing to calm her anxiety. Our dinner was delicious and then it happened: time to pay. We got the bill which was grossly miscalculated: our appetizer was omitted, the combined entree prices were under by $10. Our gift certificate required that we paid $35 for food in order for it to qualify. Our flustered server told us our certificate couldn't be used and we went through her math to show her that it indeed did qualify. She thanked us for the correction and went back to process our bill. When she returned, our credit card was charged $8.71 more than what the bill was supposed to be. My husband and I kept looking at the statement puzzled again by the calculations. The owner saw our frustration and had our waitress approach us. "Oh...by the way", she said, "the tip is already on there." An $8.71 tip on a $24 bill? We didn't dispute it...we simply vowed never to return. Pros: Food was tasty, star trek ambiance Cons: Inflated prices, poor math skills, the continuously ringing bell more

Rich hardwood reflects the autumnal palette of the draped, semi-private booths along one wall. More booths--these for dining--run the center of the space parallel to the main bar. A raised cocktail lounge houses carved wood furniture, a matching bar and a fireplace. A back room is den-like, dressed with jacquard fabric and pillows. An older, post-club crowd nibbles small plates alongside premium wines and spirits.
