Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes

On October 20, 2009 I was leaving my terminally brother at Sparrow Hospital when I called Gorseline Runciman-Lansing Chapel, on his behalf to inquire about funeral services. I had a checklist of questions to ask. I called the funeral home . An elderly woman with a distinct voice answered the phone. Since we have family living in all parts of the country, we knew we wanted them to be able to sign a guestbook that most funeral homes have on their WebSite. I asked , (I will call her ""Doris"" ) if they had this service available and she indicated they did have a guestbook when you have services at the funeral home. I clarified that I was referencing the type that you can sign on-line and she indicated that they did not offer this service. So, I verbalized (as I was checking this off my list ) this is ""not with the times"" and went on to my next question when Doris interrupted me and cursley replied, ""We are with the times"" and proceeded to hang up on me. Absolutely stunned, I thought, maybe we were disconnected so I dialed back. The phone was picked up without any greeting and immediately hung up again! Astonished, I dialed 4 more times and received the same treatment!! I had recently just finished 2 months of grief training for a non-profit organization so you can imagine my utter disbelief, I decide to go right over to the funeral home 2 blocks away. I was greeted by Doris at the door, undoubtedly, 100% the ""voice"" I spoke with on the phone. She went on to deny she was the person I spoke with and deverted the blame to ""invisible"" employees that she did not summons to inquire about this encounter. Nor would she summons any management to hear my shock over what just occurred with their businsess. Needless to say, with these dispicable communication skills, lack of remorse and most importantly the absence of dignity displayed by ""Doris "" Gorseline Runciman will not be representing our family or any of those families I have told of this encounter. They gave my father a decent service but seriously downplayed military funeral honors. Subsequently we were convinced that it was ""too much"". I attended another service for the father of my closest friend and was awed by the simple but dignified honors he recieved. I can not help to think that my father would have enjoyed and been honored by the presence of these soldiers. more
