I brought my car in for a rear brake repair on a Tuesday. I received a call that afternoon in which I was informed that they had also conducted a "courtesy" inspection in which it was revealed that I had two old belts (they're all "old" after a couple of months, a dirty air filter (I changed it three months ago, and that I needed an oil change and tune up, by the way an air filter change is part of a tune up. This elevated the $490 quoted brake job to $1350. Are you kidding me? $860 for a tune up, oil change and two belt replacements? I would have pulled the car right then but it was on the the lift dismantled, additionally I was leaving for Iraq in a week and had to get it done. I told them just fix the brakes. They called a few hours later to inform me that the backing plate for the caliper piston would have to be ordered from the manufacturer. They would start work as soon as it came in.
