Editorial review from Citysearch 11/18/2015

For 18 years Dr. Skeins and her staff took care of my best friend and they were always kind, knowledgable and so very, very good to us right to the end. Zak is gone now but I thank God with all my heart that he lead me to Good Shepherd and the best vet and best hospital that we could have ever found. She has taken care of my other dogs along the way and has always been there for us and I hope she will be for many years to come. more

This is the most friendly and knowledgeable veterinary service I have ever used for my pet family. Records are kept up to date, which was a problem with my previous veterinary's staff. At Good Shepard Animal Clinic my pets are treated with lots of TLC.\r \r They also do not keep you in a waiting room for 30 minutes before they see you and your pet.\r \r The entire staff are friendly and a pleasure to do business with. Great people. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 10/28/2012

Mostly friendly service. They took great care of my pit mix who had parvo. The team worked day and night but in the end it was just not enough and my baby lost his life. But i thank them for every thing that they tried and the loving care he received while at the clinic. more

Good! 8/22/2012

They did good. Thanks for helping our little puppy. He is well and good now. more

rude staff 1/14/2012

satisfactory if you don't mind the rude staff lying to you. Did not even faze them when I told them I was going to take my business elsewhere and talk to the owners. more

Three Stars based on experience.. 1/22/2011

The place was very nice and clean. The women working at the front desk were very friendly, and the doctor was helpful. Sad to say, I really did not care for the nurse who saw my puppy and I before the doctor came in. She has blonde, shoulder length hair and wears glasses, she is an older woman. Anyways, she had an unpleasant demeanor. She would tell me obvious things about my pet as if I didn't already know. I remember her asking me "What do you feed him?" as if I didn't know what a dog should be fed. I Overall, the visit was beneficial thanks to the doctor. I do suggest that someone talk to that nurse about judging people. I really dislike her for the way that she treated me. more

Excellent for Low-Cost Vac. Clinics! 12/4/2010

I've been bringing my pets here for the low-cost vaccination clinics. There are held 4 times a year on a Saturday from 1-3pm. It's about one-fourth the cost of my regular vet's prices! Although it's a 30-minute drive for me, it's always worth it. The staff is very efficient and Dr. Sassman runs the clinic smoothly. Even though there's always a line when they open for these clinics, they get people, dogs and cats in and out pretty quickly. If I lived closer, I'd use Dr. S. as my regular vet. Thanks Good Shepherd Animal Clinic! more

The Best Vets In Town 5/15/2010

The Best Vets in Town - the staff is fabulous - the Docs are so caring, giving, and always go a step beyond. My Irish Terrior had a large lump on his head. Not only did the staff called almost daily to check his progress, the docs called too. Any change to the worse and they wanted him there immediately. These vets know you love your pet, and they treat you with respect, and your pet with love and determination. I would not take my four dogs anywhere else. more

whats ""good"" ? My dog is dead 12/10/2009

I initially got referred top this "" dr "" via carecrdit , essentially a vet credit card. I've had some rough experiences with vets, I have a semi disabled dog, and I've found most of them care little, and are only interested in money.. dr. skains ( not capitalized on purpose) was no exception. My Bosotn Terrier was a 7 year old healthy dog. She used to have bound;less energy and used to run with me. I began to notice she was drinking TONS of water, and behaving lethargic, so I made an appt. and took her in. skains initially diagnosed her with a bad thyroid, and prescribed expensive thyroid meds. After a few weeks, I noticed no change in my dog, she was getting worse. They kept insisting to wait longer and I keep pumping her the meds, again, no change. This went on for a few months, despite her obvious deterioration. A friend of my Mom's who has Bostons, suggested my dog may have "" canine cushing's ""disease. Evidently its common in Boston Terriers. I researched this, online, and found my dogs symptoms matched this disease perfectly. every symptom. I suggested this to skains, and she pooh-poohed me essentially telling me i didnt know what i was talking about, and I cant believe everything I read on the internet. I insisted my dog get tested, and of course, she was positive. I recieved no apology from skains, no "" my bad"", she was basically as rude and crappy as she usually was. It got so bad with skains, the last few months I dealt only with her assistant. Tuesday 12/9/09 the very day she tested positive for canine cushings disease, she could hardly walk, and had alot of blood in her stool. She was throwing up blood as well. I rushed her to the emergency vet, where she died 5 hours later of septic shock. I had an necropsy done on her, and the initial results , according to the vet at the emergency hospital, who, was super nice and compassionate by the way, said her death was consistent with a dog ho had advanced cushings. He said her liver was huge, and abnormally shaped, and she essentially couldnt process her food. Im waiting or the rest of the results.... Had skains figured this out sooner, she would still be alive. Had skains listened to me, when I first suggested this, she may still be alive. When I called skains to tell her my dog was dead, she apologized, but again was rude, b*tchy, and un-professional. The entire time Ive dealt with this "" dr"" she was as rude, short and snappy as any ""professional"" I have ever met. Her arrogance and negligence, in my opinion, led to my dog's death. Not only did i lose my dog, but had this woman one inclination of what she was doing, my dog would still be here.. I'm currently looking into legal options. I wouldn't recommend the good shepperd, or the horrible owner "" dr"" skains to my worst enemy. Cons: worst vet of all time more

Wonderful Vet, Wonderful staff 11/10/2008

I have been taking my pets to Dr Skains for almost 8 years and have not ever had any of the problems described by the first three reviewers. I have always found the staff to be friendly and warm, the atmosphere conducive to keeping pets healthy and the vets to be knowledgeable and helpful. The pricing is consistent and reasonable. more

Doesnt get any better 7/1/2008

My partner and I have actually driven from california with animals that were not diagnosed by the "specialists " in california. Dr Skains hit the nail on the head first time, and after $10K in fees from california vets, it was a simple office visit with a few tests healed our Emily! I remember Dr Skains exact words " I have seen this before" lets stop all of the spending and this is how to treat her" We are an animal sanctuary, and can provide references for tthis clinic anytime. Dr Skains and her entire staff have serviced our animals many times. We love you all at good shepherd\r \r www.smilingdogfarms.org\r \r ricky/jay more

You Don't Find Many Like This! 3/4/2008

This is my first visit to Good Shepherd, and will now make them my permanent vet. The vet and her staff are the best I have ever dealt with. Very professional, but treated me and my dog like we were old friends. In today's business world, you don't find many like that. more

Small Waiting Room? 3/3/2008

Wow Maile B, I guess your a little behind in the times. Not sure when you last paid a visit to the clinic, but the lobby in the building where they are now located is huge. Also, as for the medicines, I'm not sure what you got, but I can tell you during my last visit (last month) 2 of the 3 meds I got were on the $4.00 list that walmart and smiths, walgreens and a few of the other pharmacy's make you pay. I know that before they moved the dr's sister was the receptionist. We now have a new staff and things are trying to work out better. more

So so 9/17/2007

If you can get passed the people at the front desk the vet was very helpful and informative. Not sure if I will go back. Don't even like dealing with the people on the phone. The people at the desk just don't seem to care. more

Good Shepherd Animal Clinic 7/2/2007

Staff at the front desk rude. Parking and waiting room very small.Vet seems to be professional. Prices for services and medicine very high compering to the others. more

Awesome vet--everything else, not so great 7/29/2005

Vet was awesome but the staff at the front desk was a little on the rude side. We had to buy some medicine for our dog and the nurse at the front desk tried to overcharge us $30.00! The vet ended up having to come out to tell her that she was wrong and we were right. Also the waiting room is really small (only 2 chairs) and the parking is horrible. There are probably no more than 5 spots and 2-3 spots are always taken by staff members. more
