Pork fried rice was good. Beef with Scallions was mostly onions, not beef or scallions. more

i would not recommend this place...at least not for anything w/ meat in it.\r i had to throw out the general tso's chicken because the ""chicken"" looked disgusting. i also threw out to throw out the dumplings...i'm not sure what kind of ""meat"" they put in them but again, it just did not look right. stick to the vegetarian menu. more

My husband and I LOVE this place. After moving to Philly we tried every Chinese restaurant we came across. I was dissatisfied with the vegetarian options and general taste of each one. Then a friend recommended Golden Empress Garden and we've never gone anywhere since. Their food is amazing. The vegetarian options are to die for, especially if you want a change of pace from steamed veggies. (try the orange ""chicken."") My husband isn't a huge fan of chinese food, but now we order it every week. The staff are very friendly and the service is pretty quick (we always get take out). Even though we live in South Philly we've never waited more than 30 minutes for our dinner. Pros: Delicious food and huge variety. Cons: None. Really. more

No matter if you're vegetarian or a meat lover, the menu at Golden Empress has more than enough tantalizing options to keep you second guessing your choices. If I had to recommend one dish it would be the vegetarian duck with mixed vegetables, which is simply to die for. They make a great chow hofun as well as any of the other staple Chinese dishes you would expect. The service is great, the portions are generous and the prices are reasonable.. I've been frequenting Golden Empress for about 8 years and it never disappoints. I feel confident when I say they are the one restaurant in the city that rivals the best (reasonably priced) offerings in China Town. I love this place. The staff is so friendly and accomodating. Anything on the menu can be made into a vegetarian entree. It's cheap and the delivery and pick up are both fast. By far the best Chinese food in Philadelphia. Pros: Amazing food, great vegetarian options, cheap, nice staff more

This is always my first choice when I'm eating on South Street. It's small and cozy, the service is excellent, the food is amazing and the prices are great. I really appreciate the dual vegetarian/meat menu because I can always talk my non-vegetarian friends into eating there. Try the vegetarian Sesame Chicken! Yum. more

I love this place! The service is top-notch excellent, and the food is amazing. I highly recommend this place to any vegetarian. I especially enjoy the way the water is served ice cold (you'll see). Sam is awesome and he even remembered me after a year away! The place is small, so large groups should plan to dine around peak hours. However, the small setting is intimate and the service is extremely pleasant. They have an extensive vegetarian menu, and the sweet & sour ""lobster"" is to die for. Right off of the popular South Street shopping section of town, this very friendly restaurant is a 'faux meat' vegetarian's dream. I was very pleased with my old favorite sweet and sour ""chicken,"" my meat eating friend liked his wonton soup (which there is also a veggie version). Prices were average, which is a treat in a big city, and the waiter Sam was well known by the regulars. Remember this restaurant if you're hungry while shopping on South street!
