I came here w. my friends the other day. Normally when I eat vegetarian food, I never get the satisfaction of filling my tummy. Gobo was soo delicious that I don't mind becoming a...

Excellent idea and location for a vegetarian restaurant. The inside looks fabulous. However, after spending $65+ at GOBO I found myself hungry after one hour. The portions are qui...

Great vegan food, courteous service 5/4/2009

The contrast with the nearby McDonald's and Gray's Papaya could not be starker. Lovely preparations, serene atmosphere, gourmet vegetarian food -- and reasonable pricing. In the heart of the central Village, just south of 8th Street. Completely worth the trip. more

Healthy, veggie, good 6/4/2006

Gobo offers healthy, quick, vegetarian food that's on teh cheap side. Whether you get takeout or eat in (the space is surprisingly pleasant) food here is satisfying, even if you aren't someone who eats vegetarian all the time. It's a nice alternative for a quick snack from the rows and rows of fast food restaurants in teh area. more

Best vegetarian restaurant in NYC 8/17/2005

This is one of my favorite New York spots. The atmosphere is calm and elegant without being uptight. The food is creative and delicious, and of course good for you too. My favorite is the mushroom & soy platter (which is made to look a little like scallops), and the avocado tartar. The fresh juice is finally worth it. I am vegetarian but i took my brothers (who are BIG meat eaters) and they were over the moon! Some reviews I read complained of too much oil, but I disagree: to me the olive, sesame, and other vegan oils have a healthy flavorful taste and are not heavy at all. more

Meat or No Meat This Place is Fantastic 3/13/2005

I know what you're thinking, "I'm not into all that earthy-crunchy extra healthy vegan stuff." Neither am I. Walking into the Gobo in the Village (there's one at 401 6th Ave. and another one on the upper east side at 1426 Third Ave.) I saw wheatgrass and I got nervous. However, the menu opened my eyes to a whole world of options that had me thinking this might not be so bad after all. Then the food came and I was hooked. I have yet to try anything at this restaurant that I didn't love, and I've tried about half of the menu. The main thing that differentiates Gobo from other places is that they're not afraid of spices. They jam pack everything on the menu with flavors aromas and textures that will blow you away. Three of my personal favorites are the yam and yucca fries, the spinach dumplings (pan seared) and the scallion pancakes. Not only is the food great at Gobo, but because it's vegan, nothing's too expensive. That leaves some money in your wallet for a glass or bottle from the wine list. The staff provides good advice on pairings as well. more
