excellent 11/3/2010

Annoying when people rate the service over the food. I don't really care about service in a place like this, it's not the Plaza. The food is fantastic, I took my family here as my two of them are veg and everyone was happy. more

i want to be a vegetarian. 3/19/2010

I came here w. my friends the other day. Normally when I eat vegetarian food, I never get the satisfaction of filling my tummy. Gobo was soo delicious that I don't mind becoming a vegetarian.. you must try the pine nuts medley w. lettuce cup, salt & pepper king oysters mushroom, and def the green tea noodles.. great food, save the planet and healthy body what's not to love about gobo. Pros: healthy food, great service, great wine selection Cons: nothing i can think of more

Delicious smoothies and desserts! 12/22/2009

My friend and I went to Gobo this past Sunday night for a late night snack, and was happy with what we received. The decor is homey and welcoming, complete with a unique juice bar/kitchen counter in the front and an open kitchen. It was quite busy considering it was a Sunday evening, but we were seated quickly. I ordered the refreshing tropical mystic smoothie and my friend ordered the red chai tea that had a zestiness that followed after the first sip. We also ordered the Vietnamese spring rolls - we appreciated the big cucumber slices and the sauce was quite good. For dessert, the pumpkin ice cream was definitely pumpkin-y and the flavor really grew on us, and the apple and pear tart was yummy although I wished they used a different bowl because it was hard to get at. Good service, although I thought they could have been just slightly more attentive. Will come back hungrily! Pros: Seated quickly, great spring rolls as well Cons: Ran out of the holiday dessert more

Amazing food, disappointing service 9/6/2009

As a regular visitor to New York from Scotland, we always make time for a visit to Gobo as the food is brilliant. Was disappointed during our recent visit at the end of August as the waitress was not even monosyllabic, she did not actually speak at all other than to take our order. Pros: Delicious choices for all courses Cons: Staff attitude more

Best Vegetarian Restaurant!‎ 2/11/2009

As a vegetarian chef, I feel I can give a fair opinion on the fare at Gobo. Hands down the best meal I've ever had. Period. A little pricey, but well worth the splurge. Enjoy! Pros: Delicious food, great decor, fun service Cons: Packed! Long lines... more

Very good vegetarian food, but beware of hidden charges. 8/21/2008

Last night I had a delicious dinner at Gobo in the Village. The food was tasty and creative. We tried Vietnamese spring rolls, pan seared spinach dumplings, scallion pancakes, slow-cooked Malaysian curry, and eggplant stuffed with herbed tofu cheese. Although these choices are somewhat typical, all dishes were prepared very well. The pleasant ambience of the restaurant contributed to an enjoyable meal, except for a very loud couple who was sitting next to us. Because the tables were placed just a few inches apart, it was hard to hear my companion over the high volume conversation going on at the neighboring table. ? And then came a bill with two surprises. Apparently, the restaurant charges $3 for a side order of rice. We weren?t asked if we want rice with our dishes or not, it was just placed on the table. Also, the multi-layered chocolate cake was served with a scoop of ice cream, which we figured was a nice touch. However, that nice touch came at a price of an extra $1. Surprise! I recommend this restaurant for the quality of food and friendly staff, but beware of extra charges. Pros: very good vegetaria food, friendly staff, pleasant ambience Cons: hidden charges more

Very interesting, first try at vegitarean 7/28/2008

A friend recommended this place to me. When I first went in, I was very impressed with the atmosphere, though that usually comes with a price, but to my surprise, they were kept fair. I got a saytan dish, it was good, but not something I would really try again, but don't get me wrong, it was of very high quality. Would recommend to anyone of the vegitarean persuasion. more

Best Vegetarian Restaurant! 6/29/2008

I dined here with some friends for a birthday dinner and I have to say it was amazing! Every dish was so delicious. I really liked their shitake mushroom w yam dish and their avocado dish (don't remember the name sorry). They did forget to bring out one of the dishes but it was ok because we were already full so we just canceled it. It was reasonably priced and a great experience for us. I would definitely go back! Pros: Great food and price, ambience Cons: They forgot our dish but it was ok. It was a busy night. more

amazing restaurant 1/7/2008

What an incredible experience! My boyfriend and I were walking around looking for a place to eat and we stumbled upon gobo! What a great find, before we were done eating we couldn't wait for the next time we'd come back! Excellent food and service. We both left their full and we want to come back to try everything on the menu! I recommend making reservations though if you can, otherwise there's a wait. Atmosphere was very peaceful and the menu was really helpful with a few definitions for those people unfamiliar with the different kinds of veg foods. Pros: excellent food Cons: make resevations to avoid waiting more

Best vegan in town 8/10/2007

Though the prices can be a bit high and seats need to be cleaned/replaced, the food here is excellent. The flavor diversity always leaves room for discovery even after repeat visits. My boyfriend is vegetarian, I love steak...and yet we both love this restaurant. I don't miss meat at all. They have great smoothies and tonics as well. Good organic beer too! Pros: Food and smoothies Cons: Price, dingy decor, & occasional poor service more

Simply Delicious Veggie Fare!! 5/23/2007

Treated my sister to this fantastic restaurant in celebration of a job well done for the school semester. Came by recommendation of a vegan friend who, if rumors are true, informed me that this place was owned by the kin of the folks that own Zen Palate. How could you go wrong? Pros: Food, Accessibility, Choices Cons: None really more

my favorite resturant in NYC 3/2/2007

We had just left the Met, and were hungry, and stumbled upon Gobo Upper East Side. We were blown away at how great everything was. Every detail was perfect. Really. I have been back to Gobo many times since then, and everyone i take with me is always floored by the food and service. It is vegetarian, but the most die hard carnivore will love it too. more

Avoid This Dump 1/18/2007

The food is OK, but just OK. The place has a nice look to it and the restrooms are clean. What is amazing is how utterly rude and obnoxious the waitstaff can be. Try to order!! Try to pay!!! You can?t. When you politely ask ?can I give you my order now? you get nothing but attitude. So now we go to Red Bamboo across the street for vegetarian. Pros: Good menu choices Cons: Service from hell, amazingly unprofessional more

love it, love it, LOVE IT! 12/22/2006

The food here is amazing, as is the wine. I am a vegan and find that the retaurants in the city that have good vegan food either have too much a of a hippy-dippy atmosphere or are too posh and expensive - Gobo is neither. Everything we had was delectable. I will be returning here as many times as possible! more

I'm not used to all those choices! 10/18/2006

Went to Gobo for lunch yesterday- been meaning to go for years and am kicking myself for not going sooner. Had the braised tofu in black bean sauce which was good, but I actually preferred the new england rolls I had as an appetizer. The best part was the wide range of choices, mostly asian influenced but not entirely, and not soy pretending to be meat but soy standing out on its own in all it's wonderful permutations! yay! Pros: veggie delight! more

great food, ambience, and service 9/16/2006

Beautiful, calming interior. Delicious, healthy food. Friendly and competent servers. I have a friend from out of town who insists on going there every time she visits. I am more than happy to comply. Although I generally love the food, I will say that a couple of times I've gotten a dish that I thought was too salty. Pros: great food, ambience, and service more

On and Off 8/6/2006

Gobo is a great vegetarian restaurant that also offers a gluten free menu. Their smoothies are amazing with the option of adding flax seed or ginseng, but can range up to $10. Although very accomodating, they have made many mistakes with serving gluten free dishes incorrectly. I keep ordering and going there though because they do truly make an effort and the food is phenomenal. more

Reasonable priced, tasty, vegan food. Very few bad dishes and the room is quite peaceful. Definitely worth a visit. more
