Ginger Man is a good, but not great restaurant 4/10/2012

I like Ginger Man, but I don't love it. Forgetting the fact that parking on Greenwich Avenue is a nightmare sometimes, it is in a good, convenient location, towards the top of the Avenue. You walk in and there is a bar. It can sometimes be a bit noisy, but it doesn't seem sleazy or anything. From there you may be seated in a back room (which has a fire place), in the same room as the bar, but far enough away that it isn't too annoying, or there appears to be an upstairs eating area, but I have never seen it used. There is lots of wood, and the place has a the feel of a local joint. The food is a mixed bag. I have ordered medium rare steak and received an almost raw steak. The baby back ribs are good, but not great, their salads are fresh and quite good. I noticed some tables got bread, but we have eaten there several times and no one brought bread unless I asked for it. On the whole, I recommend Ginger Man, I just feel that given that it is a moderately expensive restaurant the food should be a bit better. more

Great food and atmosphere 2/20/2010

After a somewhat long day exploring the New England countryside, all I wanted was a nice quality restaurant to finish the trip. We were passing through Greenwich on the way back to NYC, and someone had recommended The Ginger Man. We got a great parking spot on the street, and there was no wait (this was a Friday night, mind you). The atmosphere was exactly what I was looking for. It was a little bit of comfort mixed with elegance. There was a nice mix of younger people at the bar, and a few old people eating at the restaurant. I swear, we were seated next to a couple 60-somethings on a first date. Anyway, the food was great. We ordered the chilean sea bass and the braised short ribs. Both were good, but the sea bass was SOOO good! It was perfectly seasoned and had a nice crispy texture. The ribs were good too, but I wished it was a little more tender. I'll still give this place 5 stars though because I loved everything about it. Maybe it was just my mood, but next time I'm on the east coast I'll try to go back. Pros: Food, atmosphere more
