Excellent Group Experience 9/28/2006

My company had a regional gathering in the Pittsburgh area recently. We chose the Georgetowne Inn to host our dinner of approximatley 25 people. We were seated privately in the upstairs dining area. The setting was fabulous, offering an unparalleled view of the city, yet offering us the seclusion our business dinner required. (it was a weeknight)\r \r The service was good as we had two servers assigned to our party. Drinks were served quickly and often, as one can imagine with a business gathering. The food was very good. All were served within 10 minutes causing no delays for anyone, and allowing our discussion to continue without a problem. No one in our group had any complaints about the service or their meal. With 25 people, that's pretty good! \r \r The chef stopped by to introduce himself - a nice gesture, I thought. I would definitely recommend this establishment to any who are seeking a place to have a group outing, be it business or personal. Or even a quiet dinner out some night. Pros: The view! Cons: Being on Mount Washington, parking is limited. But this is expected. more

Best deal on Mt.Washington 9/27/2006

I've been going to the Georgetowne Inn for years, love it! Best price on the mountian.Never had any problems, sure It's busy but I'd rather eat at a busy restaurant than a slow restaurant. more

Don't believe the Hype 9/17/2006

The Georgetowne Inn did not impress me at all! I have heard so many wonderful things about this restaurant over the years and finally got an opportunity to dine there with another couple. The food was okay, the view was nice, but on one of the hottest days of the summer the restaurant had no air! The food is priced rather high and I expected that...however I also expected food with flavor and perhaps a little flare. The presentation of the meal was at most average....but I will say that the blackened tuna was pretty good. My husband never wants to go back...his steak was very bland and his side of pasta was not enough to even feed to my 5 year old son. So, with that said.....consider where you go to eat! Just because its on Grandview Avenue overlooking the city doesn't mean its top notch dining. This restuarants might have one of the best views of the city but it definitely does not have the best food! Pros: Nice View Cons: Over rated! more

MOST HORRIBLE DINING EXPERIENCE EVER!!! 9/12/2006

My mother-in-law visited PITT to attend a conference a few years ago. We wanted to take her some place SPECIAL for dinner, and the Georgetowne Inn came highly recommended. We had a 7 p.m. reservation. It was PROM night, and the KIDS obviously got there before we did. Additionally, there was a table of approximately 12 people - in plain view - already seated, having dinner, in blue jeans!!! Oh, I'm so sure they DID NOT have a reservation! We were told by the hostess repeatedly that it would be 20 MORE MINUTES, and if we left, we'd be lucky to get pizza delivery because it was PROM night. This went on until 10 P.M.!!!! When we were FINALLY seated at 10 p.m., my prime rib was quite good; HOWEVER, THEY RAN OUT OF THE FRESH VEGETABLE, AND SERVED ME CANNED CORN!!! ... because they ran out of the fresh vegetable for the day. I contacted the manager the next day, and he was 100% apathetic and RUDE!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT!!! Atrocious is not a STRONG ENOUGH word! I would rate it F, F-, F- -, into infinity and BEYOND! You'd have to PAY me to go back there!!! Pros: View Cons: EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE VIEW more

Food was nothing more than sub - par 9/10/2006

Our service was good and we were seated on time. The food was just a disappointment all around. We travelled from Erie to Pittsburgh for our anniversary. I would recommend them for drinks only, even the desert was below par. Pros: service Cons: food more

overall not bad BUT 8/30/2006

Our waitress Charlotte was very polite and attentive. The atmosphere was nice.\r \r My 2 daughters and one of my daughter's fiance had a nice meal.\r \r I had a Manhattan for a before dinner drink. I thought it was a sad excuse for a Manhattan... seriously.\r \r I had a Filet Mignon, that I ordered Rare. It came Medium. The waitress offered to take it back and get me another one, but I was not going to hold up my guests.\r \r The cook needs to go back in training. A Filet Mignon cooked medium is ... well... you might as well be eating a hamburger.\r \r I am glad my guests enjoyed their meals though. It was a celebration for one of my daughter's engagement.\r Pros: Good service... good atmosphere. Cons: The cook needs some help. more

Average, expected better... 7/10/2006

My girlfriend and I visited the Georgetowne Inn on a Saturday night around 8pm. We called in advance and made reservations on the suggestion of a co-worker. Being unfamiliar with the area we planned on using the valet service but no one was in sight even though the sign was out front, we drove around a couple of the winding streets and eventually found a pay lot, no big deal. We arrived right at our reservation time and were seated without any wait. Having been waiters, both my girlfriend and I know what it's like to work in a restaurant and often sympathize with the workers when customers are being unpleasant. That being said here are a couple things we noticed during our visit. First, we were promptly greeted by our server once we were finished ohing and ahing over the view. We both really enjoyed the server, she was very pleasant and not overbearing as some of them can be. Even though Im not a huge fan of wine, we ordered some anyway and I found it quite tasty along with the crackers and cheese served upon arriving. After ordering an appetizer (highly recommend the mushroom caps!!) and dinner we were given the typical bread and butter. The bread came in loaf form and we werent given any type of bread knife to use and I could clearly see that other tables were. I asked the busgirl for a knife and she ran off to find one. 5 minutes later, still with no knife I asked another busgirl for one to which she replied Ill look but I dont think there are any other knifes in the place.?!? It may seem silly to complain about something like this but I was more disappointed in how they handled it rather than not actually having a knife. After that it went well, salads and dinner were good. Appetizers, wine, dinner and dessert ran us about $75. All-in-all it was nice to eat with a great view like that but nothing really stood out that would make us want to visit again. Pros: View Cons: Valet Service more

worst meat in town 6/19/2006

We celebrated my mother's 80th birthday at the Georgetown Inn...there were 18 of us. While the service was good, except the water girl spilled water everywhere, the food was not. All the seafood was excellent. All the beef sucked. I ordered a combo of shrimp and prime rib...medium rare. The meat was served brown all over, room temp, and the aujus was cold. Everyone in our party who ordered meat was disappointed. I wrote the Georgetown Inn a letter prior to posting this and got no response whatsoever. Guess they don't care about people's opinions. I would never eat there again. more

great night 11/14/2005

My wife and I along with two other couples visited the Georgetowne for the first time. within 10-15 minutes of our arrival we were seated at the table I had reserved. for a saturday night that is good timing. The food was excellent. The chef's potato and leek soup was outstanding. My wife really enjoyed the spinach salad. several of us had veal marsala which was very good and my buddies steak was done just right and his only complaint was he wished he were hungier so he could have had another. Portions were good sized and the service was very friendly and timely. The place is a little noisy. don't forget to try the peach melba. Great way to top off a meal. Afterwards we walked a short distance to the overlook to see the city. WHAT A GREAT NIGHT!! Pros: friendly, good food more

Good food, bad service 7/12/2005

My boyfriend and I had reservations, but waited 40 minutes for a window seat. Our seat ended up being one of the worst. The food was great but the service we recieved was not what I had expected. Pros: Food, Live music Cons: Service, Wait more

how long did we wait? 3/8/2003

I found the Georgetowne Inn to be a very beautiful restaurant. I was not however impressed with the service. We went on a Wednsday and we still had to wait over an hour to be seated. The hostess was not freindly. She made up for some of it by offering us a window seat, if we waited 10 more minutes. The chef came out once when we were waiting and once when we left which was a bonus, but he never walked around to the tables to see how everything was. The restaurant was nice but the service was slow and lacking in finesse. It went against all my culinary and service training. I'm not sure I will go back. more

lounges and waiting 2/16/2003

waiting is the confusing item when crowded, told to go to upstaires lounge but confusing where lounge begins and ends? Not sure if will miss name being called. Food is excellent once seated at a table. Restrooms are bit ""iffy"", broken back to toilet, not the best cleanliness. Would a like different variety for soup, seems like always stuffed pepper soup and of course onion(onion is not ever a choice for us). Hours posted on the web Pros: food, portions, service Cons: waiting lounge, parking more

I'll never go back 1/13/2003

I've tried the Georgetown Inn a couple of times because of its reputation, but two times have confirmed that this place has no concern for its patrons. The service is about the worst that I've ever encountered. With reservations, the shortest wait that I had was an hour after my resrvations. The service was slow and very uncaring and slow. By the time that I got to the food, we were too upset to enjoy it, even if it was good, which I honestly can't even remember. Cons: slow service, reservations mean not, ceilings are dirty more

In love with Georgetowne 10/3/2002

I have been going to the Georgetowne Inn since I was 18. It was the first ""romantic"" dinner I had with my husband of 15 years. The way the lights are dimmed, accompanied with the view of the city, is just breathtaking. It makes you feel like you are in paradise. The food, just phenomenal. Service, just as good. Thumbs up to this place! Pros: Inexpensive, very romantic, food wonderful more

Romantic 9/23/2002
