Quintessential Virginia Highlands bar/restaurant. I go there to sit outside (when I can get a seat) and enjoy a little sunshine, people watching and a pretty good lunch. Pros:...

I ate there on a Saturday afternoon with two friends. The burgers were really good. Six thumbs up! The service was not very good, though. I also noticed that the chain lamps...

Burgers so good. Really. 4/16/2010

Many people think of this bar as dingy, but, to be fair, it is so dark in the back part that it is difficult to tell what is covering everything, so i say, give them the benefit of the doubt. Pros: Great burger; ambiance right out of "All the Right Moves" Cons: Joggers. Please go shower. more

Burgers so good. Really. 4/15/2010

Many people think of this bar as dingy, but, to be fair, it is so dark in the back part that it is difficult to tell what is covering everything, so i say, give them the benefit of the doubt. George's has great burgers, there's no question, and also, immensely difficult trivia. The only downside is Wednesday, when the place is filled with joggers. These people gleefully tell you how far they ran to get there. I can only assume that this is due to the difficulty finding parking around George's (hint: park on Vance or in front of the fire station, there are very few fires these days). But I came here to speak to you about the burger. So good. And chew slowly, gives you time to think about the trivia answers, and it will make the joggers wait longer for a table. I am giving it 4 starts instead of 5 because means "Run, Don't Walk" and I want to discourage that type of behavior. Pros: Great burger; ambiance right out of "All the Right Moves" Cons: Joggers. Please go shower. more

The burger was good, but... 1/21/2009

.....I would say the place needs a bit of an overhaul. Felt kind of gross. But for what the place is, it was fine. Pros: Cheap, Fast. Cons: Low Quality, Dingy more

George's great burgers and two other great places 12/4/2008

George's, the Vortex, and Ann's Hamburger stand are my three favorites in Atlanta for burgers. All make a good homestyle burger, like those cooked in the old days by mom. BIg, juicy, good sized bun and just about anything you want on them. I like to pick my own stuff, but roasted red bell pepper adds a lot to mine, along with red onion. Pros: Easy to find and on the main drag in Virginia Highlands Cons: Parking can be hard to find more

Bar food done right 11/24/2008

George's is a great place for top notch bar food. Burgers, tuna melts, cheese fries are all great. Good selection of beers and wines, great prices, outdoor seating when weather permits. Bring your dog, they are welcome just outside of the patio area. Doggies love people watching too! more

Best meaty & meatless burgers in the area! 9/17/2008

George's is a great place to go if you are in the mood for a fabulous burger! They have wonderful vegetarian options as well; I am in love with their black bean burger! They have such a variety of toppings and give you the option to choose whether you would like a beef, black bean, veggie, or turkey patty. They have a variety of other menu items that are great, but I stick to the burgers. This place is very inexpensive too! more

Best good old fashioned restaurant and beer place 8/24/2008

I love George's. The family atmosphere is the best in town. I always see people I know. The service is great but it's not the Ritz. What you get at George's is normal food and certainly a malted beverage. I like to get the Char Grilled Chicken sandwich with swiss and coleslaw on the side. And a beer in a bottle. How normal is that? I love it. It's fun to get organic buffalo mozzarella with heirloom tomatoes and purple basil, etc. (Floataway Cafe.) but I can't do that every day. Pros: Great people. Fine food. Cons: Too far to walk from my house. more
