Quick and tasty food! I love it!

Worst

Long lines doesn't necessarily mean good food. It's the only sit down Indian restaurant for blocks, that's probably the only reason it's popular. That's the only reason I went....

Tasty taste taste..cheap too! 8/15/2010

Quick and tasty food! I love it! more

Not Worth it.. 8/2/2010

I had high hopes for this place. Close to work and has a place to sit down. I disregarded the poor reviews that it might be too ""american-ized"". But the food was really bad. The curry was thin and the nan was terrible. I gave it 1-star cause I couldn't give it a zero! I won't go back. Pros: Selection, Sit down Cons: Food more

tiny hole... 5/7/2010

I know that downtown doesn't have much choice at lunch, but it was like buying food at the cart on the parking lot....no dignity! food looks ok, but I don't know how they keep it safe, I saw them hauling food from car, but not in the caterer's box so it was sitting in the car? I mean think about it, when you buy food from carts, where do they wash their hands and go to restroom? I would rather pay dollar extra and eat at regular restaurant, that pays taxes and passes health dept inspections.. Pros: low price Cons: not clean food. more

White Rice never counts for BIG portions 11/25/2009

Long lines doesn't necessarily mean good food. It's the only sit down Indian restaurant for blocks, that's probably the only reason it's popular. That's the only reason I went.... But it's faster and cheaper than cart food and you can sit down and eat like a civilized human being. The food is edible but not flavorful. I had the chicken curry and the vindaloo, the naan was like pita bread, and curry was bland. Pros: fast service, cheap prices, filling Cons: watered down Indian more

better cheap Indian downtown on 5th 3/5/2009

Good price. Bad food. I has the chicken vandloo with saag as the vegetable. Both were under spiced. The rice is also not Indian basmatti. The nan is store made. Don't bother with this spot. more

Great Lunch Getaway - Cheap, Delicious, and Filling! 6/23/2008

Gandhi's has become my favorite downtown lunch spot. It's a great getaway where you are just as comfortable talking w/coworkers or dining by yourself and reading a newspaper. The line is often long but moves quickly, and its always worth it! Only slight downside is naan is small and only includes 1 piece, but extra pieces are only 25 cents!\r \r MENU \r (Served w/Rice and Naan, choice of chutneys/sacues, and 1 or 2 veggie sides)\r (Veggie sides rotate, usually there is spinach, tomatoes, dal, cauliflower, garbanzo beans, mixed veggies, curried potatoes, and a few more...)\r \r 1. Chicken Korma (Medium) w/1 side $5.50 \r 2. Chicken Vindaloo (Spicy) w/1 side $5.50 \r 3. Chicken Makahni (Mild) w/1 side $5.75 \r 4. Combination (2 chickens) w/2 sides $6.50 \r 5. Chef Special (Shrimp or Lamb) w/1 side $6.25\r 6. Veggie Plate (2 veggies) $4.75\r 7. Veggie Deluxe (4 veggies) $5.75\r 10. Chef Special (Shrimp or Lamb) w/2 sides $6.95 (FREE Soda on Fridays!)\r \r My Favorite is the Chef Special, w/Shrimp & Chicken Makahni, w/spinach and garbanzo beans! Pros: Cheap, Delicious, Filling, Quick Line, Remembers my Name and Order Cons: Kind of a Dive (although I like dives) more

I used to eat there, but when I found out the owner sells days old (cooked) food I stopped eating, be careful. 6/3/2008

Owner sells old food( left over from previous day) when I pay I want fresh food. Please take care of your health. Pros: smells and looks good Cons: Leftover reheated food days old turst me. more

Give it a chance! 3/7/2008

I can sympathize with someone not wanting to return somewhere that may have given them a bad stomach reaction. But the fact is, every time I go there, a line winds around and practically out the door. Which means, not many - if ANY other people have had the same experience. I would imagine not, otherwise Ghandi's wouldn't dominate the other restaurant and practically drive them out of business, if they haven't already. I think the food is very good - but I agree with the other reviewer about the Naan. More would be better. But it's only a quarter to add two more pieces. Overall, my opinion is that this place is a godsend, and I eat there once a week. I'd say give it another chance! Maybe something else made you sick... Pros: Delicious food, generous helpings, price Cons: not quite enough naan more

Savory, Filling & Inexpensive! 5/5/2007

Gandhi's is our go-to lunch spot for a quick delicious fix. Always a crowd which tells you that most folks enjoy it on a regular basis. Only complaint is that the naan is a bit of a second thought. A better naan would really round out this tasty venue! Pros: Savory dishes, very reasonable prices Cons: Long lines, naan quality and portion could use some work more

Holy Gross Food Batman! 4/16/2007

Oh holy god, my lunch visit to Ghandi's last Thursday was my last. After throwing up much of my lunch and staying up all night, vigilant with nausea, I have few kind words to give this food stand. I will never go here again.\r \r Aside from my horrific stomach-churning experience, Ghandi's has always been a mediocore, lots of food for your buck kind of place with nice employees. That's fine if it's benign and your expectations are low, but totally inappropriate when it sends you into dry heaves.\r \r Gross. Just gross. Pros: Cheap, Downtown, Fast Cons: Gross Food more

Cheap & Bad 4/9/2006

Not sure how people are ready to give good rating to this poor quality restaurant Pros: Cheap Cons: Bad quality, Serving meat, in gandh name more

It's good all of the time... 9/30/2005

I am a regular customer of Gandhi's and have even had the restaurant cater my birthday party. The food is always fresh and so good. The owner/chef, Dhillon, cooks the food fresh everyday. Not only is it delicious but the portions are generous and one can eat two meals from one. People come from all over the Portland downtown area to eat lunch. The restaurant is open for lunch only 5 days a week. Even though there is a big lunch rush the service is kind and efficient, delivering the food in plenty of time to fit into your lunch hour. Each dish has distinct flavors that distinguish it from any of the others. My favorite, if I must choose, is the chicken Makhani or the shrimp served with any of the seven daily vegetable offerings. The chicken Vindaloo is delicious and spicy and I highly recommend the tomatoes. Pros: Fresh, Flavorful, Great prices more

ksd 8/3/2004

Super-cheap, fast, friendly service, and great Indian food. You cannot beat this value - I ordered the chicken vindaloo (only $5.00 for a huge portion, and very tasty) which comes with a vegetable side and some rice. They also have great condiments including fresh chopped cilantro and a bevy of sauces, all available at your request for free. Plus it's truly some of the best Indian food I've had so far in Portland. There's seating inside although I wouldn't describe it as a ""nice sit-down"" type of place. That's not as important to me as good food, however, and the service was also friendly and efficient, but not rushed. I will be back for lunch soon. Pros: inexpensive, tasty, fast Cons: , cafeteria atmosphere more

Well worth the price 2/4/2004

I wondered in this cute little lunch area just at closing yesterday. Gandhi's was the only food stand still open. The guy behind the counter was very helpful offering samples of everything that wasn't sold out. The servings were huge. I was completely stuffed afterwards. And of course everything was yummy. At $5-$6 a plate I totally feel that I got a great bargain Pros: Inexpensive, great service, good food more

Very good, but a 10? 10/16/2002

Given the price, it's above average. Creamed spinach is usually a favorite, but very sub-par here. However, the chicken dishes are very good. I appreciate more bang for the buck, but they provide too much rice. No Samosas! Pros: chicken dishes Cons: spinach more
