I had a similar bad experience to some of the reviewers here. I bid on the sitting plus 1 free 5x7 at a charity event and won. Like others, I was told to bring a black shirt and a white shirt and my two dogs. I will be the first to admit that my dogs were a bit unruly while there, but this ""professional"" photographer did NOTHING to help make them or me more relaxed. I felt rushed from the moment I walked thru the door and was sweating the entire time because it was ridiculously hot in the filthy, unkempt studio. Clearly not an environment conducive to making people look photogenic. Did I mention It was FILTHY? more

Use someone else...trust me 4/20/2011

We as others have posted bid on the free 5x7 and sitting fee at a silent auction for our church. I wondered why no one else bid on the item, and it only went for $25. I soon found out. When my wife called to make the appointment, she inquired about the pricing. When he gave her astronomical figures, she asked why it was so much. Instead of explaining, he abruptly asked if we wanted to cancel our sitting. We decided to get the free pic anyway and move on. more

When I was preparing for my pictures I was so nervous. I was really concerned about having to pick my own poses and not knowing what to expect. Once I got to the studio everything changed, I felt so comfortable. Gabriel tells you exactly what to do and help you all along the way. At the same time I felt free to throw in my own ideas and Gabriel incorporated what I said. I loved having my own input, and it was really easy to trust the professionals to make sure me look good. The session flew by so quickly and it was really fun. The pictures were amazing. My experience was awesome. Thanks. more

Artful Eye 10/13/2010

We purchased a gift certificate at one of our girl's school to have our family portrait made at Gabriel Tran Photography. My girls had so much fun during our family session and they got to play with the rescued dogs that Gabriel had at his studio. Gabriel did an awsome job bringing out the best in each one of us and truly capturing our unique personalities. Gabriel has a natural talent to put his subjects at ease as well as a rare artful eye. We will treasure Gabriel's pictures for years to come. more

Innovative Photographer 10/10/2010

This place should be high on your list for your photography needs, if you want to capture special pose photograps. I had my family portraits done here and they turned out very classy... just perfect. It is a bit more expensive than the studios that are run out of department stores, but I liked the service so much that I would go here again before trying any place else. more

Donated gift certificate beware!!!!!!!!!!!!1 8/16/2010

I bought the gift certificate for my wife for mothers day. We scheduled a time to do photos and he was late and wanted us to walk the park in 110 degree weather and according to the weather reports it was the hottest day ever in houston. He pressures you into buying photos since he has not told you that the gift certificate was a scam to get you there and he has taken the photos. I did not get what I paid for. more

Mr Tran prepared a portrait for me with professionalism and artistry. His skill is superb, I have come to know him in other avenues as well (his efforts in animal adoptive placement and artist circles, for example) and find him to be an honest, caring, giving businessman Houston should be proud of.? Gabriel not only runs a great business, but is a fantastic person to work with. The photos turn out beautifully, and although the cost was higher than we expected, it was worth every penny in the end. Excellent Quality! 3/4/2010

The reason I like this business is because I have tried other photography studios around and their work was of cheap quality. Gabriel Tran Photography is very different from all the others. He pays great attention to detail. The pictures of my family were fantastic!! If you want cheap pictures you are going to get cheap results. Very reasonable prices. I wanted the best and that is what Gabriel Tran Photography gave me. Pros: Beautiful Works! more

Expensive Phony 2/25/2010

Like everyone else said, he donates free sitting fees and a free 5 X 7 to silent auctions, but then he is incredibly rude if you want small pictures, because his thing is big giant $400 to $1000 pictures. He takes 10 minutes of pictures, and then charges you a grand for them. Seriously. Buyer beware. I am going to warn everyone at any future silent auction that I see. Like the others said, I don't believe any of the 5 star reviews....if you look they all sound the same and none of them reviewed any other people or service. Hmmm.... Pros: None! Cons: Expensive, hardsell, pushy, rude more

GREAT EXPERIENCE! 2/15/2010

My wife and I had our first child and agreed that we wanted our first family portrait to be special. We had seen pictures of Gabriels works at our friends homes. They were absolutely stunning. We went to a Christmas fund raising event and purchased his gift certificate at the silent auction there. The photograph session went extremely well. Our baby was very cooperative. Gabriel knew exactly what kind of images he was going for and they all worked out very well. We're very pleased.? more

Good Guy! Great Portraits! 2/2/2010

My son and his wife were coming in from New York for Christmas and my husband and I hoped to get a long overdue family portrait made with them, as well as with our daughter and her family. The only day available for all of us was the Monday after Christmas, Gabriel's day off. However, he graciously agreed to rearrange his schedule to accommodate us, something for which we were really grateful. more

A well established and very good photographer. His shoots are excellent and the quality of work to die for. He shot some posters of us and we have been extremely happy with the results. His work is displayed proudly in our house. Simply amazing pictures. Would recommend to everyone wanting to capture dream memories or getting the special poster of yours for the family rooms. more

I was very happy with Gabriel! They are a small operation but that is the benefit because they offer specialized, personable service. Gabriel is so talented and able to capture the look I was desiring. He is also really good at understanding what you are wanting and good at preparing you for the sitting. he has alot of experience which really shows in the end product. On the high side for pricing though. Great studiio portraits. Pros: Beautiful Portraits. Great Service more

This is probably the best photographer in Houston. He is expensive but his work is beyond incredible. You need to look at his work. He shot my family and it was amazing. He is a true genius at the art of photography. Pros: Beautiful Portraits. Great Customer Service more

SCAM ARTIST 12/14/2009

As the other negative posters mentioned, this guy's MO is to donate to charity events and then pressure the ""customer"" into buying ridiculous pictures are high prices. Mr. Tran is rude on the phone and in person and doesn't even take that nice of pictures. This guy had the nerve to call and tell me ""not to be late"". Our 8 minute photo session was immediately followed by a 20 minute high pressure sales session. One other thing I noticed is that the flowery language of the positive reviews seems very similar... I suspect that Mr. Tran or one of his employees has been making ""5-star"" reviews. ""I am so relieved that Mr. Tran called and told me to wear a white shirt and black pants. I wouldn't have been able to dress myself without Mr. Tran's instructions."" Let this guy keep his ""art"". You don't want it. Pros: none. Cons: scam, expensive, rude, makes fake CS entries more

Terrible Service and Terrible Work 12/13/2009

My wife bought a portrait session from Mr. Tran at a charity event. He called several times to instruct us ?not to be late? as he was ?very busy?. If she did not answer her phone he would call mine and vice versa... back and forth. This happened several times leading up to the shoot. One hour before the shoot he called us and tried to reschedule us to an earlier time. more
