G P Grand Paradise Salon

After a recommendation from a friend (who had the cutest cut), I went to GP Salon. Ne is fantastic!! She listens to what I want, but also offers advice on what would look good with my face shape and ease of care, etc. I've been seeing her for years now and continue to get compliments on my hair! She genuinely cares about her clients. more

I had my hair straightened by CHARLES!!! He is the best. I have never had such a FANTASTIC experience. He did a Fabulous job on my hair! I Love my hair. & Charles!!!!!! Thank you Charlie, Your the GREATEST!! more

My biggest pet peeve is walking into a salon, telling the person what I want done to my hair, and then leaving unsatisfied and looking nothing as I had envisioned. This is NOT what happened at GP yesterday. I normally don't leave big decisions up to my hair stylist but when I saw Charles at GP Salon, I did just that. I showed him 1 image of what I was looking for and said ""he could do what he wanted"". I have never been so pleased with a hair color and got many compliments after my appointment. I will be referring all my friends to Charles as I think he really understands what looks good on a woman. Thank you Charles! more

I have been intimately involved with Charles and his shears for the last four years, following him wherever he resides, whether it be Moe's in Vancouver, Barbarama in NE, or Grand Paradise, his cousin's salon, downtown. This is not a pain to get to- Smart Park is across the street and is cheap. A MAX line runs here. At least 10 Tri-met bus lines go downtown. Downtown is super easy to access, and GP is right there in the Standard Insurance Tower...no more excuses! Why go to Charles? He is a COLOR EXPERT. I have see some ""professional"" dye jobs in my day that don't even come close to Charles' mastery. One look at his own hair will tell you he can work some color. Also, he knows how to cut hair...all types of hair. Dudes, chicks, kids...short, long...you're gonna walk out of there with style and substance. I have given out dozens of cards for my man b/c my haircut gets compliments every day. I have short hair and my hair grows out fast...but with his cut, it grows out beautifully. What normally would last me 4 weeks from another stylist gets me 6-8 with Charles' cut...because its got styling and texture in all the right spots. He's a dynamo. Go see this man. I went to five different stylists in Portland before staying with Charles- I'm VERY PICKY when it comes to my hair, its my defining feature. I have converted several other friends who now call Charles' chair home. Now its your turn. more

Nee has been my hair stylist for ten years now, and I would never switch. Her haircuts and highlights are amazing. She always listens so well to what I'm looking for and makes helpful suggestions. She is such a warm person and a great communicator. I like very natural highlights and hers are absolutely flawless. She also works so well with my hair issues -- cowlicks and very fine hair -- and takes the time to teach me her styling tricks. I have been so pleased with Nee, even since my first appointment. She is such a find! more

I didn't think twice about following Charles from Baberama back down town because he knows what he is doing, and he's great at it!! Coming from NE, I admit I didn't want to think about parking downtown, but they have tons of parking with a smart park accross the street! I don't get off of work until 5 and no one complained about being there late. Everyone was very friendly and made me feel welcome on my first visit. When I go see Charles I tell him to do what looks good and now I get stopped at least twice a week to be asked who does my hair. So here you have it...Charles Lao does it! People can't stop fussing at how great it goes with my eys and all i can say is ... ""Go see Charles, you can have it too!"" Pros: Color Genius more

I love Nee, she is very patient and does an amazing job on curly hair. I've had many bad haircuts in my day and was relieved when another fellow curly head recommended me to her. I was nervous and brought photos with me realizing it was all unnecessary. Nee was very supportive, we talked and she touched my hair and showed me what she was thinking of doing. She cut my hair and I was happy. I went home and washed it and looked in the mirror and thought I needed it to be shorter. I called her and she gladly fit me in to take a little more off. Amazing! I loved my hair. I still get my hair cut there and so does my girlfriend. I would recommend GP Salon to anyone. I think the bad review was someone bitter. They would never act that way. I was a little weary when I went to this salon because it was down town and in the standard insurance building but they proved me wrong. Nee can cut anyone's hair and she is super cute and stylish. I have been going to this salon for a few years now, and Nee has been the only hair dresser I have stuck with for any length of time. She really takes her time to make sure your haircut is perfect and does a fabulous job coloring hair also. She will be honest with the condition of your hair, what kind of cut and color would be best for you. I love that I can get my hair cut and colored and get an eye brow wax all in one place. I have many friends who also get their hair done at GP Salon and we have all been happy. The receptionist at the front desk does seem a little rude at first. Once you get to know her, you will realize she has a good heart and is not judgemental at all. It is unfortunate that another reviewer had a bad experience. more

Don't go to this salon unless you wanted to be greeted by a rude and snobby receptionist who can barely speak English! I called to make an appointment, which I received. When I showed up at the salon, they sizedme up and then I was told ""No, No, no time available."" because I guess I'm not one of the ""Beautiful People"". If you have the slightest flaw in your face, body or hair, don't go to these people - they will ridicule you (in their Asian language of course - they didn't know I understood) and not have any time for you. Pros: convenient downtown location Cons: unless you're a millionaire's wife, don't go to these rude and snotty people. more

This is a small, cozy shop with a great stylist(Nee) and a staff that is fun and friendly. There is even a traditional barber during the week for the business crowd. They have reasonable rates, do basic manicure/pedicures and massage as well. Great location near Pioneer Place. more
