So-So Korean fare 1/11/2012

Quaint little place that can be hard to find unless you are specifically looking for it. I've been there a time or two before in years past but it doesn't seem to have changed much. Ordered the Bulgolgi with kimchi and namuls. Bulgolgi is precooked and then brought out on a portable hibachi... seemed pretty overcooked, almost like it was boiled for quite awhile. The taste was OK but nothing to jump up and down about. Service was good but then again it wasn't that busy. Overall I don't think its worth the money ($12) for precooked food. more

Great for Gluten-Free Chinese Food! 5/11/2011

My mom and I both need to be gluten-free and are extremely sensitive to gluten. Fu Yuang offers several gluten free dishes that are very tasty and we have never had any problems with their food. We average eating there twice a month and love it. It's family owned and we are supporting a local business. Bonus!!! more

A rare treat! 3/19/2011

Family owned and operated, Fu Yuang is a rare treat! The gracious owners always make me feel like part of the family when I dine there. Ingredients are fresh, and dishes are prepared when you order. Try the bulgogi, served at dinner on a sizzling plate with all of the traditional accompaniments, and don't miss the potstickers! Fantastic! I can't wait to go again! more

Terrible experience!!! 7/19/2010

Our experience with this restaurant was unlike any I have ever had! After asking the server (who was also the owner) if there was any way he could replace a broccoli dish with some other green vegetable, he became hostile and irritated - and did not want to take the order. He went to the back and moments later his wife (the cook) returned to our table. She said that we ""insulted her husband"" and demanded that we leave at once! This entire time, we were nothing but kind and respectful! The fact that there was a large party being served next to us is NO EXCUSE! We will NEVER return! Horrible place! Cons: unreasonable, irrational owner/service more

AWESOME KOREAN FOOD 10/2/2009

My wife is Thai and she is an excellent cook. She and I both love foods from all over the world. \r \r Most of the time when we try cultural food in America it is not Authentic, so we are used to this and do not expect traditional food... but a hybrid of American tastes and Worldly tastes. If you are a person from any other country that has immigrated you MUST understand this! You will never get the best food from your country in America, NEVER.\r \r Considering what I just said:\r \r This is a great Korean food restaurant, as good as any fine Korean restaurant We have tried and any major city. Very good food and SUPER REASONABLE PRICING!!! \r \r A must when you are in Albuquerque! GREAT FOOD Pros: Good Bulgogi, Kimchee Most People will Like more

Pushed me to leave 8/2/2008

I went in solo, and I was the only customer in the place - Saturday at lunch. I thought I was enjoying myself reading and eating - until the owner came out and turned off the fan, next to where I was sitting. They allow you to choose your own seat - and I had chosen to sit by the fan, because this is July in Albuquerque and i didn't feel any a/c. The heat just became so uncomfortable that I felt I had to leave. Why they feel the need to alienate the only customer in the place....???? I told him I was leaving because he turned off the fan and I was sweltering - he said he thought I was cold. What an assumption to make, I wasn't cold, at all. As I was leaving he yelled after me ""We've been in business 28 years."" Just to let me know they don't need customers the likes of me - solo diners, who don't want to sweat while they eat! Message received Loud and Clear. That's an assumption I made - but based on the fact he became so angry about my complaining about him turning the fan off. Pros: Food was okay, good cream cheese wonton, chicken quality good Cons: Uncomfortable dining environment-too hot, portions a bit small for price more

It's a destination, not just an after thought 10/8/2007

I do not know good, authentic Korean food from any other Oriental style food. All I can say is that the bulgogi at Fu Yang's is wonderful. Unfortunately, I can not comment on any other dish they serve. I discovered their place about 10 years ago through the Entertainment coupons. I tried the bulgogi and was hooked. It is the only dish I eat there. The portions are large and it is served on a gas fired grill to keep everything piping hot. I feel the service is excellent and the atmosphere is cozy. I always look forward to dining at Fu Yang's. Pros: Fast, friendly service and great food Cons: Too far from my house to make it a regular stop. more

Not that great! 9/8/2007

I had high hopes reading the reviews. I was really looking forward to it so I know there is a place to go when I did not want to cook. I was so disappointed with the food. Whoever says it is authentic does not know korean food at all. I am 100% Korean and I am a way better cook. The kimchee was old and over fermented, food was bland, and service was just okay. I had something they recommended thinking that would be the best tasting thing on the menu and be really good. That was not the case. I would never go back. I rather take the time to cook it myself from now on since I have yet to find any good korean restaurant. Pros: Lots of food, big portions Cons: not very good or authentic Korean food more

Fu Yuang beats out the rest 8/15/2007

Best Korean food in town. I'm Korean and I love Fu Yuang. Favorite dish is bulgogi and of course kimchee. Mia and Chris are excellent servers and fun people to be around. Cozy restaurant, great place to take friends who are new to Korean tradition and food. Beats out Korean BBQ house, Yen Ching and anyone else who thinks they can serve up some really great Korean food. Chinese not there speciality, Korean is the best. \r If you go order there bulgogi, Korean mixed salad, and chopchae. Yummy!!! Pros: Excellent food Cons: Small, could be very booming if they opened up a larger space more

Best Korean food in New Mexico, without a doubt! 7/4/2007

This small, family owned and operated restaurant is one of the best in Albuquerque. The Chef, affectionately known as Mama Kai (to me, anway) is simply one of the very best Korean chefs anywhere. If you can squeeze in before they close (7:30pm) you will be amazed at the quality of the menu items. She obviously has very high standards, and if you know Korean food at all, then you will recognize hers for what it is: delicious.\r \r This restaurant is a little hard to find, on the NW corner of Eubank and Candelaria, in the Scottsdale Shopping Center. I discovered it when we first moved to Albuquerque, way back in 1998. It is always a treat to be able to go and eat Mama Kai's food; I just wish she was open later, and more often....\r \r (PS Whoever said the Korean BBQ house was better, either owns the Korean BBQ house, is lying, or is drunk. I've been there twice, and the food was not even edible, for the most part.) Pros: Delicious food, family owned Cons: Closes at 7:30pm, gotta hurry! more

Bad Choice! 6/20/2007

The food experience was not the greatest. I have had my share of Korean food and this is not it! I feel the food served was too spicy and salty at the same time. The service was o.k. for the small space but I always have a saying ""if the restaurant is not crowded with locals the food is bad"" unfortunetly I would recommend Korean BBQ House in Albuquerque..""authentic"" and ""deliciouse"".. Pros: small location Cons: bad service more

Not authentic Chinese 5/20/2006

This restaurant is in general more authentic Korean than Chinese I believe. So if you are looking for authentic Chinese cuisine, I would not recommend it. If you are looking for American Chinese or pretty good Korean, I would recommend this restaurant. Pros: Good Korean selection, Good service Cons: Not authentic Chinese, Not good Chinese more

As good as it gets here 11/18/2005

The food is delicious. The service is not slick but competent. Fu yuang is a quirky, family owned and operated. I spent some time in Korea and will vouch that this is the real deal in terms of cuisine. My only gripe is the hours and that isn't much of a gripe. Pros: Delicious, Authentic, Good parking more

Tucked away but worth the search 5/2/2005

A warm, comfortable, friendly place. Family run and the food is awesome. If you like hustle, bustle and noisy crowds and glitz this is NOT the restaurant for you. If you'd prefer quiet coziness where you are treated as though you satisfaction matters, you'll really like Fu Yuang. Your added bonus will be the astonishingly reasonable prices. Pros: food, service, warmth more
